Nice video. Thanks! I am left handed but my teacher said to use my right hand and it worked OK. Someone else in the class told me that he was left handed also but had no problem using learning with his right hand.
+Wichmann Daniel Thank you. This is an interesting question. The tradition of writing in ancient China was using right hand. Therefore, almost every class on Chinese calligraphy is teaching how to write with right hand. I have two answers for this question. First, the technique will be the same for left-handed people. Second, if you have never practiced these techniques before, then to start writing with right hand or left hand does not make a big difference because neither hand "know" how to write. :)
It is indeed an interesting problem. I think writing using right hand is kind of symmetry breaking in ancient China. All these principles in calligraphy are ONLY applicative for right-handed people, and thus it is impossible to write out characters correctly, elegantly and fast using left hand. Now that the symmetry breaking has happened, writing mirror-symmetric characters with the same principle is of course not a good idea, because this is incompatible with traditional culture. As far as I am concerned, the best way to start writing Chinese character is: using RIGHT HAND. Otherwise, you are rebuilding a civilization from scratch, and that would be another matter.
