Just your average bad player at Starcraft that loves UMS maps! I want to highlight great UMS maps that have been made by many great map makers over the years. Hopefully these videos can serve as walkthroughs for certain maps, or a way to find maps, or a way to know what a map is like before playing it, the way same why I relied on random youtube videos of playthroughs of specific maps for tips/strategies.

Sorry to hear that, you don't have to watch the videos. It's meant more of a way to find maps to play and to serve as a walkthrough if you ever get stuck playing maps, hence the lack of editing. Hope you get better!

Unlike the original campaign, where you have to accumulate 10k minerals, in this hard mode version of the map you have to destroy all the command centers. It makes the map significantly more difficult.

You could've gotten it for free 2 years ago with Amazon Prime but the deal ended 2 years ago, and I'm not aware of any new deals. Starcraft is still free top play via the Blizzard app, you just won't have access to remastered features such as the ladder system or the updated graphics.

I only know a little Korean, can't even type in it. Some of the guys I play with are Koreans who can speak it fluently so they help us figure out how two play Korean maps, and we use tools to translate parts of the map when we get stuck.

​@@공성-j2r ​ wow you're the map creator of those maps! Cool! Actually one of the guys I know ultimabeam is a huge fan of your 임진왜란 map and grinds out points on it all the time. He also machine translated 삼국지 변 by gogumaru and I translated a few maps as well, is there a preferred method for getting the translation strings? Since your map is EUD I don't think we can get the strings, do you know if there is a tool to extract the strings or if you can get the strings to us? KLauncher, you should be able to download from their website klauncher.kr or on github if you search it on Google, you do need to create an account though. It's in Korean though so you're gonna wanna use translation tool if you can't read it. It fixes the lobby join bug and has some QoL stuff like blacklisting/whitelisting people or letting you see file name of map from the lobby. As for chat history in game just press the += button on your keyboard.

@@halopalo Unfortunately, that's one of the biggest hurdle nowadays with UMS, getting decent players to play maps with you. Most of these videos I'll be playing with the same folks cause these are guys that I know will stick through a UMS map to beat it. You can try that Rome map solo, I'll upload a solo vid on the hardest difficulty to show it's doable, although I don't recommend actually playing on the hardest difficulty lol. Also you can save and load when playing solo so that's a nice way to save progress/try things. You do get some benefits, such as increased income and higher shield on cannons to compensate for playing with less players.

There hasn't been many new Lotrish map, the latest one I'm aware of has too many mechanics hidden behind korean text so you have to be willing to translate a ton of stuff.

@@공성-j2r no idea about Korea but it has gotta be way more than on the US West server. I think in the past few months I've seen like 10-20 regular players. It's not a pvp map so you need new maps to keep people interested.

​@@halopalo No English version, cannot translate EUD maps without getting source files from map maker. I usually use phone / screenshot+ocr tool to help figure out the map, sometimes we got koreans playing with us who help us lol.

The AI loves to send workers to build on expansions even if you're there, sometimes I find the AI actually building a hatchery next to my already built nexus lol.

@@hamsterkoster Oh yes, I'm aware of AI behavior like that, particularly the Campaign Insane AIs, which contain actual expansion scripts (like here), and Campaign Area Town scripts, which are just resource gathering scripts confined to a specific location. It's just hilarious seeing a 1v1 worker battle on a campaign scenario since it's not something you'd typically encounter.

It's the name of the campaign, for some people this campaign would be too easy, for others is too hard. Point is it's a harder difficulty than the original campaign.

This is the hardest mission of SC1 Original campaign. In "Trial of Tassadar", you at least get access to Carriers. Yes, I know of the speed run option, but I'm talking about doing it legit. The attacks are brutal, the AI sends reinforcements IMMEDIATELY and in force (unlike in most of the missions). Securing an early expansion to the east is a must, and you must do it during relentless enemy attacks. I can't imagine how you could make it even harder, but here we are.

Yes, I remember as a kid some of the original campaigns were brutal and I had to play with cheats to beat it. I feel like pochoman leaving in dark archons with mind control made this mission a lot easier than it could've been. That being said, I beat this hard version mission before without mind control by just massing a full army of dragoons with a few reavers and high templars for support. (Pochoman does disable mind control in some of the protoss expansion missions, I guess he just forgot for this one) People like to make fun of the scout but it's actually a very tanky unit, and 24 of them at once can easily wreck a lightly defended front. Pochoman adds in scripted attack waves for the AI that spawns them a large number of units to add in difficulty and the number of units spawned only increase over time, so you get hit by scouts, carriers, and arbs constantly throughout the mission. Also, I dont know if it is a mistake while making the triggers or if the original mission had the same problem, but in this hard version of the mission you only need to take out all nexus for one of the protoss AI. FIrst time I played this mission ended early after I destroyed the red protoss and I had to look at the triggers to figure out why.

@@hamsterkoster The original mission had the same objectives. You only had to destroy either 2 Ara tribe's (Red) Nexi, or one Auriga tribe's (Orange) Nexus. I'm not for scripted attacks that just spawn units out of thin air. Giving the AI more production buildings is a fairer approach. But maybe the map maker didn't want to touch the bases too much. Yeah, mass max upgraded Scouts are dreadful, even in the hands of an AI. In fact, it's Blizzard's AI that pioneered the Scout micro (sending the Scout to the nearest Shield Battery after his shields run low).

@@ozar_midrashim Cool, good to know. Without use of EUD to customize AI behavior, you're limited on options on how to make the AI more difficult. I don't mind if the AI has to "cheat" to be more difficult, especially when the AI is just not very good. It's far more effective attacks than the regular attack, especially because the AI tends to like to attack the same time the spawned wave happens. In this campaign the spawn only happens if the "spawn" building is alive, so you can destroy them to remove the spawn.

There were no Lurkers until Brood War. This map is a failure and I'm not even 3 minutes in. The maps must respect the lore of the campaign they're in.

LOL! You should watch the earlier missions where terrans somehow have access to medics and valkyries even though the UED hasn't even come yet or where the protoss has dark archons.

​@@hamsterkosterYeah, I haven't checked those out. But even in this, I see the classic trap of "artificial dificulty" that many map makers fall into. This mission is a first one, no need to make it super hard by making the Zerg have Defilers and Ultralisks, while the player is limited to Zealots and Dragoons. I see how he wanted to even the odds by providing a full heal beacon for Fenix, but that only highlights the steep difficulty. My approach would be to keep the first mission a bit harder than original and ramp up the difficulty as you go.

​@@ozar_midrashim Feel free to give the mapmaker some feedback by going to the site linked in the description, but this is actually the easiest protoss level in this hard campaign series and far easier than the zerg levels. (ignoring the attack move no build missions, those are still very easy even with all the changes). It's not like the later missions get easier because you have access to more tech units, they are actually harder even with the full protoss tool kit. I actually consider this mission quite easy. I wouldn't consider this artificial difficulty. You do get 2 observers for free to deal with lurkers, but even without them the AI is really bad with lurkers. You can kill lurkers with no observers and just zlots when they are controlled by AI, because the AI will automatically unburrow the lurker if you have a unit just outside their attack range. Fenix is also buffed to have double shield/HP (i think 800 shield 600 hp) so he is very tanky, but you can beat this mission without using him. Goons are also really effective versus ultralisks with their high base damage, they weren't really a threat here. A mass of regular zerglings were more difficult to deal with than ultralisks. The AI also just chases your units so even if defilers cast dark swarm all you have to do is move your units back, the AI won't use them effectively like an actual human would. For an actual campaign modification with artificial difficulty you should see the "insane" version of the campaigns, where the map maker lazily just gave the enemy 999999 resources and set all AI script to insane. In contrast, in this hard campaign there are custom scripted attack waves that ramp up over time and you aren't at risk of being run in by 200/200 supply of enemy units three minutes in. Classic map design doesn't work because this is intended to be a hard campaign for players that find the original missions too easy. For the original campaign, it would be the first time players are ever playing protoss so of course you want to teach players basic mechanics via tutorial levels and thus keep it very easy. Here, the player (someone like me) already knows how the protoss race works, so I don't need a tutorial level teaching me how the race works. I wanted a hard version of the original campaign and this campaign delivered. This is also technically the 23rd mission in the series, not the 1st. The 1st terran mission which is the actual 1st mission is very easy by comparision to this mission, and for that mission I added a challenge to myself to clear the entire map to make it harder (the actual mission objective is to just build 20 marines). You can't please everyone, what some player finds too easy others will find too hard. I'm glad pochoman made the maps the difficulty he made it. I find it comparable to Brutal difficulty on SC2 or Hard difficulty with age of empires DE campaigns. Not all players will try them or even be able to beat them, but there will be players that want that level of difficulty (or even find that level of difficulty too easy). I do agree with you that there could be a campaign with a difficulty in between this and the original campaign to give players that find the original too easy but this too difficult, but as far as I know no such campaign mod exists. Hey, nothing is stopping you from making such a campaign yourself!

Some of the missions will have some of the broodwar units available, but the enemy gets broodwar units too (like dark archons mind controlled my lurkers in this mission). The focus of this hard campaign was more on difficulty than lore accuracy, but most of the missions will still have restricted units.

For Korean maps, I go to cafe.naver.com/edac, go to korea server, or check out srank.kr/ as well (I just use google translate to navigate). When you play these maps, sometimes the korean map makers will list a more niche cafe e.g. cafe.naver.com/knightofkingt is a cafe exclusively for KOTK maps or cafe.naver.com/yhs4 and cafe.naver.com/yhgsm for historical war based maps. I also just check out scmscx and browse by recently uploaded. But I also have to look through maps. For example I recently just downloaded 200 RPG maps from scmscx and looked through them all to find only like 3-4 decent one. Some of those rpg maps might mean something to people for nostaliga purposes but tbh not worth your time. I try to only upload maps that have something interesting about it, or that I enjoy. Some of these maps (like the one in this video) are older maps that I've managed to either unprotect (or found unprotected versions) that I translate. Some of these are also from the big map packs, I downloaded a map pack of 6k Korean maps that was semi sorted so I just go through them every once in a while and occasionally find something good. I also browse SEN for the very rare updates from Western map makers, and am in a few UMS discords. Sometimes people share maps there. But a lot of these are just maps that I've accumulated over the past 6 or so years. I uploaded them all to a google drive which you can download if you check the description. Still sorting those maps whenever I get the chance.

Awesome gameplay as always! Not sure if this Hard Campaign series also has Brood War missions included but I hope you keep this series going to the end. By the way, have you ever played _Inconsummate_ campaign made by 'Pr0nogo'? (Trailer: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2WDi3nQRirc.htmlsi=EvQolMa7LI3FO7mL) A custom campaign for 1.16.1 using mods to introduce custom doodads, AI scripts and a few other things that map makers won't be allowed to do only with EUD. Unlike some of other 1.16.1 mods, this one doesn't really go too far from how the original melee game plays out so it won't give you any alien feeling of seeing something completely new. and the campaign's overall difficulty should be challenging enough to suit your taste as well.

There are broodwar mission too, which are even more difficult! Actually, I saw someone hosting one of the broodwar missions and staying in obs slot to watch someone play, which is how I found about this hard campaign. I think I played another campaign of Pr0nogo's a long time ago (I think protoss based, can't remember) but not the Inconsummate campaign, I'll give it a try when I get through this hard version of the original/broodwar campaign!

Yeah, pochoman did a great job making the campaign missions actually a challenge (except for the non macro missions, but not much you can do there). I'd say the original terran mission 3 is the actual worst since you have to wait 30 minutes, at least mission 1 you can beat in a couple minutes.

Always a respectable sighting to see someone going toe to toe against multiple AIs in SC1 without using any cheats, especially when having to play as Zerg, the hardest race imo. Well played!

Insane prep for the goliath bosse. For Emp boss, I doubt we would find a lobby of 5 folks who would be willing to wait out 220 armor. I think using kings F+G skill for 10s Auto heal will be necessary to tank the boss while your boys deal the dps. Would be interesting to experiment with IMO.

Solo your damage output as king is very weak (army has a max upgrade of 50 damage), so I had to get enough armor to tank the boss skill, since I was losing units faster than I could make them and I ran out of money. With heroes you can win with around 130-150 armor as king. I prefer to use army as cannon fodder since you have limited lives (5) and since DT has lower priority for target firing from air units since it does not attack air.The AI also has a constant attack move command trigger on loop so it constantly retargets who it's attacking. If you try to do the entire arena, the final boss has so much HP by the time you finish you'll have reached 196 armor which means the game will be easy from there. But in my opinion it takes a long time and is quite boring to do, I would quit after getting the 2nd mana regen bonus rather than try to beat the arena boss. According to my friend who knows Korean people complained it was too easy so the map maker just jacked up his stats to insane numbers. I wanted to record some gameplay with other players but the last 3-4 times I tried the game lagged too much or people quit.

Yea, I think only Mengsk had a few 4k or 5k hp BCS spawn and everyone else doesn't get boss-type units. Still pretty challenging compared to the first version I played.
