What about mood side effects? Or hair thinning?
@taramd
@taramd 17 дней назад
Progestin IUDs are locally acting for most women. Some women can have systemic effects, but, based on the studies, systemic side effects (such as these) are low.

This can be a sign of perimenopause. I would recommend being evaluated first and having a conversation with your provider about your symptoms and the change in your cycle. - Dr. Fenske

Sorry you’re suffering so much… I was looking into various symptoms because I have suspicions I’m going through this, and your comment is the first one that mentions the crawling sensations on the skin! I’ve been having that months and I never realized it could be connected. It’s not listed in any symptoms in articles. Because of this I’m going to make a drs appointment to get checked (no idea how beneficial it will be but worth a try) thank you ❤

Omg I think I'm going through this as well. I have also been dealing with terrible terrible dry mouth. It feels like my body makes almost no saliva. With that comes nasty nasty taste in mouth, it's bitter, salty, spicy and my entire mouth and lips feel like they are being zapped by something and burning. I have no idea what's going on

I had it done some years back and the pain was excruciating. I nearly hit the heartless female dr. from the reflex of the pain. I was furious for the deception of being told it’s an “uncomfortable” test. LIES! It’s barbaric to do that to women without proper anesthesia.

I expected a “routine” cervical biopsy but when the doc got in there my cervix was inverted and stenotic. Without asking me or preparing me in any way, he dilated my cervix and traumatized me so badly that I don’t plan on ever going to any gynecologist ever again in my life. To say it was brutal does not adequately describe it. I woke up crying every night for many weeks. I will never understand why he didn’t just say that I had an unexpected difficulty and reschedule me for the next day and give me something for anxiety and something for pain and maybe some lidocaine or the gel that softens a cervix, etc. there must be a dozen things he could have done, but instead he tortured me.

it's so frustrating I mean, my partner is really patient and he understands me. I want back my great sex! what should I do? I mean I'm so frustrated other aspects yes I have them all but sex is one thing that depressed me. How to enjoy sex as i used do?
@taramd
@taramd 4 месяца назад
Of course, I understand how frustrating and disheartening it can be to feel like you're struggling with something so intimate and important in your relationship. It's incredibly brave of you to reach out and seek guidance on this matter. First and foremost, please know that you're not alone in experiencing difficulties with sexual wellness. Many individuals encounter challenges in this area of their lives, and it's essential to address them with patience, understanding, and the right support. As a doctor, I want to assure you that there are various factors that could contribute to changes in your sexual satisfaction, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, relationship dynamics, past experiences, and even societal influences. It's crucial to explore these factors in a safe and supportive environment. I recommend considering a holistic approach to reclaiming your enjoyment of sex. This might involve scheduling an appointment with a sexual wellness coach who specializes in helping individuals and couples navigate intimacy-related challenges. A sexual wellness coach can offer guidance, support, and practical strategies tailored to your unique needs and circumstances. Additionally, it might be beneficial to explore any underlying issues that could be impacting your sexual well-being. This could involve speaking with a therapist or counselor who can help you explore your feelings, experiences, and any barriers to intimacy in a confidential and nonjudgmental setting. Remember, prioritizing your sexual wellness is an important aspect of overall health and happiness. By seeking support and exploring different strategies, you can take positive steps toward rediscovering the joy and satisfaction you deserve in your sexual relationships.

I've just been informed my provider does not premedicate for it after asking for it. I'm allergic to ibuprofen so I can't even do that to prepare. I'll be at an appointment for other results and such but will be declining the biopsy. I will find a provider with some empathy and a different policy.
@taramd

Dearest Rebecca, My heart aches for you reading your experience. It's truly upsetting to hear you were denied premedication before a potentially uncomfortable procedure, especially with an allergy that limits your options. Your fear and frustration are completely understandable, and I commend your decision to prioritize your well-being and seek a provider who aligns with your needs. Self-advocacy is never a burden, but a crucial aspect of healthcare. You deserve to be listened to, cared for with empathy, and given all the support you need before undergoing any medical procedure. It's disheartening to know that wasn't your experience, and I want to assure you that there are absolutely other options out there. At TārāMD, we believe in a patient-centered approach, where your comfort and informed consent are paramount. We prioritize premedication whenever possible, especially for individuals with sensitivities or anxieties. Remember, Rebecca, you are not alone in this. Many women face similar challenges in navigating the healthcare system, and seeking out providers who truly value their unique needs is empowering. We applaud your courage in standing up for your own well-being. With empathy and understanding, Dr. Suzanne Fenske, MD, FACOG, ABOIM, NCMP Founder of TārāMD

I was prescribed Cytotec but am terrified of using it. My biopsy is next week.
@taramd
@taramd 10 месяцев назад
Cytotec is a medication that can be used prior to procedures such as endometrial biopsy and IUD insertion. It allows the cervix to open and become softer which facilitates an easier procedure and can avoid the need for painful dilation of the cervix. I recommend that this be used vaginally rather than taking it orally to avoid the side effects of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. If your fear is due to these side effects, then vaginal administration avoids that. It can cause some cramping, but taking NSAIDs like ibuprofen can mitigate this pain.
@taramd

We always recommend consulting with your provider.

@@elizap3614I'd recommend trying to get local anesthetic. I've also read about a paracervical block. If you were a person who has suffered with childhood or teenage sexual abuse and they still recommend the procedure without proper pain management. I would RUN not walk away from this doctor. My uterine biopsy was done at the last minute notice and I arrived the next day at 10:00 a.m. and was never the same. I even told my doctor to stop when the pain was too much while she was using some sort of device to hold/ push open my cervix and she ignored me. It was horrific. It hurts too much. It is barbaric. No one should have to experience this.

I had misoprostol, 200 mcg, one tablet orally 2 days before procedure and one tablet orally the night before the procedure. Experienced nausea, diarrhea, cramping, and bleeding and considered going to the ER but didn't. Felt terrible. Took 2 extra strength Tylenols about one hour before the in-office procedure (can't take NSAIDS). I survived the procedure but it was very painful at times and, at other times, very uncomfortable. I asked if Lidocaine could be used but was told it would cause a burning sensation. If I had it all to do again, I would want either anesthesia or a narcotic.

I understand that perimenopause and menopause can be challenging experiences for many women, and it's perfectly valid to feel that "it all sucks big time". However, it's important to remember that every woman's journey through menopause is unique and there are ways to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. Seeking support from healthcare professionals, making lifestyle changes, and exploring alternative therapies can all make a significant difference. So while it may feel overwhelming at times, there is hope for a smoother transition through this phase of life.
