I'm a minimalist who loves motorbikes, real estate, and Thailand. Motorcycles and scooters because they're pure joy on wheels! Real estate because it gives me the financial freedom to live anywhere in the world. Thailand because it's incredibly easy to live a minimalist lifestyle surrounded by delicious food, happy people, and a culture that values serenity. Over three years, 2017 -2019, I sold, donated, gave away, and threw away stuff, lots of stuff. Simplifying my life by removing doodads and distractions led to more freedom and happiness.
RU-vid and the many content creators sharing information have been an incredible resource that has helped me tremendously to reach my goals. I upload videos to share information that I hope is helpful to others; it's my way of giving back. 🙏🏼
My PCX125 is too weak uphill, and my Hornet 750 is tempting me a little too much to break the law. So now I'm selling both and getting an ADV350 here in Turkey. I also thought about a Beverly 400 since we dont have a Forza 350 here and only a 250cc. But the Piaggio Beverly looks a little too classic even though it's more powerful and cheaper than the ADV350. That I will save for an older age perhaps. And the Xmax300 is not as superior as the Honda in many ways. So looking forward to my new ride. Thanks Jake.
As a US resident not living in Thailand full time but vacationing, does there government allow buyers work in the US and get mortgage from Thai bank to buy condo outright vs renting, or is it easier through a US bank?
Nice review! I upgraded from a second hand 2018 NMax to a new ADV160. For Bangkok riding mainly around Sukhumvit, the ADV is perfect. We only take the car for highway trips so we have zero need for a bigger bike. BKK traffic is too hectic for a 350. But if we lived in a province I'd look at the 350 for sure. My girlfriend hated the NMax as it killed her cooch any time we hit a bump 😂 We both love the much better suspension and smoother ride of the ADV160. I'm 6'1 and feel great on the ADV. I've ridden 125 and 160 Clicks but hate the seat angle where I feel like I'm always falling forwards and my knees hit the front. Got a 55L aluminium top box on the back, which I know decreases the pu$$y magnet rating 😅 But who cares, it's a scooter in the end, and I love the functionality. I agree about the clicky turn signal button! But otherwise it's a good looking and well made scooter. The dark matte red is the best colour by far, so you choose well there too 😉
Thanks! 👊🏼 We're in a similar situation; we only use Gig's car for long trips. Driving the car in Pattaya is miserable. I like the idea of adding a top box to the 160.
I've only checked HOA fees a few times since I'm only interested in renting because the rents are so low and availability is very good. The average between the ones I've checked is ฿40/sq. M. paid annually. So a 47 Sq. M. 1 bed/1 bath would be ฿22,560 ($681) per year. I own properties near Gulf Shores, AL, where the average condo of comparable size has an HOA fee of $600 - $700 per month.
@@JakeSnowLiveSimple that's not bad at all. I was I just looking at the sale price for the same apartments and it looked like 7 years of rent would be the same as buying them (without hoa fee) Thank you kindly for responding!
I know it's 9 months old video, but hopefully you can tell me. At that dealership, if I wanted to buy either a 160 or 350, what is the time frame to receive it? Do they have plenty in stock or is there a 6 month lead time? I want to buy one and then ship it to the Philippines.
Hi Jake, despite having rode bikes in the UK for the last 14 years I’m now switching to a scooter whilst living here in the Philippines, Dipolog City. I’ve only been here for the 5-6 weeks. Very keen on purchasing a new Honda ADV 160 or 350. I’ll be looking to do 90% touring when I get the scooter . In terms of performance and power Is there that much difference between the 350 and the 160 ? I can’t seem to find any 350s in the show rooms around here but would really like a 350 for the extra power. But is the 160 almost as good ? Your videos are brilliant by the way👌🏼👌🏼👍👍🙂Dave
Hello Dave, The difference in power is quite big. The 350 also has much more storage. For 90% touring, I'd get the 350. I currently have my ADV160 in Udon Thani province, and I've put a lot of highway miles on it. To my surprise, it's been very comfortable and has plenty of power to always surpass the speed limits. However, I'm pushing the engine to 100% every time I go out, and the suspension gets unsettled when hitting bad areas on country roads at high speed. I never feel fatigued after a few hours of riding, but the ride is a bit tense. Riding the bigger 300cc scooters is a completely different experience. The 350 suspension makes long rides relaxing, stable, and safe on any road condition at high speeds. Excellent acceleration with reserve power makes getting out of tight, unsafe situations easy. I could easily ride the 350 all day touring Thailand. I love my ADV160, and it'll get the job done, but I often think about buying the ADV350 while on long rides. I'll probably eventually keep my ADV160 in Pattaya for city riding and the ADV350 at our house in Udon Thani for country riding/touring.
You live like a kind in Thailand for 1000 a month omg here in us that money is crap can't get far with 1k feel like moving to Thailand how are jobs there
The ideal situation is to earn US dollars while living in Thailand. US jobs pay much better than Thai jobs. Most expats living in Thailand get money from remote work, home country investments, retirement savings, Social Security, or retirement pensions.
I mentioned the government rate in the video and showed the electricity per kWh for each condo on screen. The first two complexes had the government rate, and the fourth place had electricity included with rent. I want to know the total out-of-pocket cost. The electricity rate alone has never been a deciding factor for me.

Wow same last name 😊 great vid really thinking of pulling the trigger on this purchase I currently own a NC 700X DCT that's been a great bike but getting a bit long in the tooth if ya know what I mean.😂 The Xmax is my number 1 choice.😊
Thanks, Jerome. I'm glad you like the video. I enjoy my XMAX. It's one of my favorite motorbikes. The other scooters I considered buying were the Kymco AK550 and BMW C400 GT, but the XMAX is half the price and performs perfectly for my needs.
Hello from South Florida! My wife and I will be back in Thailand in November. We have a 5 year plan to move there so I can retire at 45 years old. I love that you review the gyms at each condo! Thank you for helping me gather more info so I can make more informed decisions.
Always purchase in your name and significant other. It's not like you can take it with you in your luggage or afterlife. You're just leaving them with a massive headache. And if you need things like registration handled while your gone they can take care of it
