Yep. I had to do a lot of leveling before I could complete a delve on my own. Lots of wolves and bandits and manual saving.

If I remember correctly, never doing that Whiterun mission at the beginning keeps the shouts from being unlocked and also keeps random dragons from spawning.

6:37 I've actually never thought of this until now. Why didn't they bring the companions?? They are within the city and they ALL would be wanted to fight a the first dragon in decades.

i don't think it would be terribly difficult to survive in skyrim at all using these parameters. You can, in this instance, join the Companions so that you have a bed to sleep in. You don't have to do any of their quests...you just need them so that you have a place to stay (though there are also several empty and unused bales of hay outside of whiterun that you can use. From there, you can pick crops, mix together alchemical ingrediants, chop wood etc to make yourself a nice pile of money. With that gold...you can then buy yourself a home or marry someone like Ysolda (whose radiant quest is pretty simple). Piece of cake
