Just a guy building and repairing Car's and Truck's that I get from Auctions and off other People that have lost Interest in them. I have worked in the auto salvage field for 30 some years and like to see the old car's and Truck's up and running. Stock or modified.
Sounds like the timing is way retarded (that little lever on the left side of the steering column) and one of more valves may have a broken spring or are sticky. When it's connected, that lever turns the points plate inside the distributor and advances the timing. Pull it down for advance/up for retard/start. Yours sounds it's in the "up" position. When they're running right, they'll sit there and idle at about 300 RPM with the timing retarded. LOVE that sound !!!
@@dbomsgarage2613 Those are not that difficult to rebulid and run great once done. I recently did six of those and have sold all but one on Marketplace. The main thing to overcome with the tilly's is how flat they are where the upper and lower bodies come together. They have a tendency of warping there from the heat of the manifolds. Getting the bottom and the mounting flange flat is no problem using sandpaper taped to a flat glass. The upper body, however is much more difficult since there is some things sticking out of the parting surface. Very carefully filing that surface while periodically holding the two halves up to some light is the only way to get them flat again. They will leak and not run right if they are not flat. At this point, I have one left and have had no "complaints" on the other 5. ;o)
