I still remember my first time playing MGS1. Baker told me to look on the back of the CD case. So I went to the floor of Shadow Moses with all the desks and offices and was looking for a CD case somewhere on a desk or something. When I finally was either told or looked up that it meant the actually game's case, I was really annoyed and put off by it. Eventually I got over it though. Haha.
Also when I fought Mantis I had to keep calling Campbell on the codec until he eventually just said "use controller port 2 you big idiot" Found that off-putting at first too, but eventually got over it.
They could had used him to bring back Liquid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2, instead of the haunting arm of Liquid snake, that transfer his total consciousness. They could have said that it was him that die instead of Liquid Snake
I mean wasnt one of the points of MGS2 that this so called "special operatives" have nothing special about it, they are actually manufactured like they try to manufacture a new Solid Snake with Raiden. Even in MGSV they say that The Boss's unit was actually full of people with mutated vocal cord parasites wich is the technology that predated nanomachines.
Subscribing especially cause you’re an actual human . hate these AI channels and refuse to support them . Oh and I love MGS - I’m replaying the first one as we speak Lmao I commented this before I saw the AI part of your video
It could have been a really cool boss fight, but I think the only thing that would have worked is his ability to sneak in and out of crowds or change his appearance on the fly. Imagine he's dressed as a Genome soldier and planted a tracker on Snake...
There is a longstanding rumor that the filming of the scene in the Turtle Club took place on September 11, 2001, the same day as the September 11 attacks, causing production to stop and observe a moment of silence during the terrorist attacks.[5][6][7][8] The rumor states that Dana Carvey was in the full turtle outfit and makeup during the solemn moment. The rumor is believed to have stemmed from a piece of trivia on the movie's IMDb page, a section that includes user-generated content and is not subject to rigorous fact-checking. Director Perry Andelin Blake and Carvey both later confirmed that a moment of silence for the victims of the attack was held and that Carvey was in the turtle outfit during the moment of silence, but that the moment took place a few weeks after the attacks. On the morning of September 11, the movie was still in pre-production, and filming was scheduled to begin in a couple of weeks.[9][7][6][10][5]
I love this video. I remember getting MGS when it came out, looking through the book with the character descriptions and instantly being hooked on the Decoy Oc character. When i got home to play and finally found his role in the game, I freaking loved it! I like hearing someone elses take on the character
The blood thing is probably in reference to the prevalent belief in Japan that one's blood type determines one's personality. It's why Japanese games with sizeable rosters list blood types, to serve as a characterisation shorthand. The idea is that Decoy Octopus is taking his target's blood to fundamentally alter himself to be more like their natural personality.
What if... he's not dead... What if he's the one person that has successfully evaded the eye of the Patriots and has been working againt them the entire time. The one person who can identity a ruse like no other. Kojimas last laugh. Decoy Octopus.
First: Foxhound were definitely intending to send Decoy Octopus in as a mole after Shadow Moses. “If it can fool Solid Snake and Roy Campbell, it can fool the UN!” Second: maybe the Decoy Octopus was going to be a fistfight in a confined space, but realized that would be better suited for Liquid V Solid at the climax!
If I remember correctly he drains the blood of others and his own. He injects others blood into himself and changes apperance. He dies as the darpa chief as he is infected by the foxdie virus within the blood and he doesnt know that. 😂
Ocelot absolutely wanted Liquid's plan to work. He wants the same thing Liquid wants, and he tells Snake in the torture sequence that Liquid (who Ocelot knows is the superior twin) is the one man who can make his dream a reality. That Ocelot was hiding things from Liquid and had a bunch of backup plans if things went wrong doesn't change that.
For people confused about the "and even Ebonics" thing because they've never heard that term before, it's not even a language. It's a linguistic term basically meaning "how black people speak". It was a dated and quite offensive term back when MGS1 was made, and it hasn't exactly made a comeback for obvious reasons lol I suspect it was put in the manual to drop a hint that Decoy Octopus might impersonate someone who isn't white like himself mixed with a bit of cultural confusion, but yeah, it's rather dodgy as a term XD
I always thought he could just become a clone of somebody, and was the DARPA chief when you arrived because they kidnapped the real DARPA chief and where going to have octopus infiltrate the government. I think his plan was to be "rescued" by snake, not have a heart attack and die. 🤭
While he could have been an interesting character he does feel wasted. If he did have a battle that the technology at the time couldn't handle I can understand that. But what we got ultimately ended up making the character seem pointless. I get liking the character and wanting to keep him and I'm pretty sure Kojima didn't have plans for MGS2 at that point, so he wouldn't think to save the character for a future game. What we ended up with, atleast to me, is a character we end up questioning if he was real or not. I don't know if that was intentional and its definitely up to each person if thats good or not. I wonder if at some point he was intended to be Venom but then someone realized that Venom could be used to explain how in MG1 Big Boss was suddenly coming from inside Outer Heaven as well as a somewhat more realisric explanation for how BB was alive in 2, doubles in case of assassinations is an old tactic.
My impression back in 1999 was that D.Octopus was planning on being "rescued" by Snake, mislead him about REX THEN infiltrate DARPA itself as D.Anderson. That was the long game but of course, F.DIE finished him off too soon. First thing they'd do after rescuing him would be medical care and they'd take bloods for that.
@@HotdogFontaine would be interesting to speculate what he could do inside DARPA. What would it change in the other games? Would we ever see Ray or Arsenal?
If I remember correctly decoy died from fox die. Snake was a carrier of fox die and killed several people on contact without knowing it including liquid snake
@@HotdogFontaine I mean, it was a gruesome day of tragedies...the towers, the widespread panic and fear, that turtle whatever the f*ck it was thing...If you're gonna unleash hell might as well be on a date that will be forever remembered and mourned
I think another thing to remember is that a lot of people in Washington are monitoring Snakes progress and conversations. This was revealed in the second game. So someone would have noticed if his DARPA Chief impersonation wasn't spot on. He didnt need to fool Snake, he just had to convince anyone listening or watching that he really was Donald Anderson
