You should REALLY try some KAI 7000 and 5000 series scissors...I simply cannot imagine using any other shears for canvas and cushion work...I am SERIOUSLY impressed with mine.
Great videos Sir! OK I need some clarification. My wife seems to understand how you glued the foam pieces in but I don't get how the heck you got it to glue to an uneven surface. Isn't there a cavity behind there now? Why don't you cut out a square/cube and glue a square/cube piece back in? Thanks for the help, we just found your channel this morning and are loving it. We just started our marine canvas and upholstery business. We have the sewing skills, just new to the upholstery game. Thanks again!
In theory there should not be any cavity behind the repair. It is not he easiest to cut a square out of the middle of the foam. When I am placing the repair piece, I open the hole up as much as possible to stuff the patch in. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your videos! I am new to upholstery. Am i right to assume that for boats, commercially made covers are unavailable? Does boat upholstery differ from auto upholstery in other ways such as materials? Thanks again
Some covers are available, sometimes you have to buy the whole seat. Just depends on the boat. Marine and auto kind of similar. I dont see any boats with real leather and Usually dont staple auto seats.
Understandable looking forward to more videos have already helped me with a difficult boat seat made it so much easier to do the cover for it thank you !
Hi great video. I am starting to get into boat upholstery what is the best way to charge the customer by the square foot and how much per square foot. Thanks..
I'm quite sure that the problem lies in the hole of that presser foot. Just some deburring might not be enough. Polishing (also inside the hole) should do the trick.
Very very strange, since the only part that you have changed is the foot. I had my experiences when I was repairing sewing machines, and it doesn't take much to mess up the top tension. And that is the case here because it doesn't pull the bottom thread up.
As a retired guy with a shop doing all kinds of things, I never knew you could heat and stretch vinyl like that. I always tried to make the pleats as even as possible and let it go at that! I have a shop stool that is ready for a new cover, Iwill give this a shot. Thank you for the info!
Hi there! Was looking for a video on patterning… so thank you! When you steam your foam and fit it back onto the board, do you make sure there is approximately 1/2” overhang? If there is not, do you add foam? What happens if you pattern / template your foam and it has shrunk too much so that the vinyl will be too tight for the board? Do you ever measure the board to make sure you are getting accurate measurements? Hope this all makes sense
I dont check the over hang when reusing the foam. I have never had it where the foam was too small for the backboard with out any deterioration, then I repair the foam, then yes I give it a little extra. I measure the board after making a template the foam, it always comes out. Even when making new cushions, I measure the form from the backboard, then the cover from the foam.
Here is the link to the sewing video. I explain why I dont do a back stitch when making the piping. Fast forward to around 15:15 for the piping information. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zEv2SGcnkHc.html
Its not really necessary, every once in a while the tip gets clogged. I just unscrew it and drop it in acetone then wire brush it. I have been using those for 5 years and only thrown one away, that was a second and I did not use it for about a year. But as far as using it, It gets used at least once every two weeks.
Yo are using a piping foot to run a normal seam! You should not be surprised it will not work right. And admittedly I'm not used to imperial measurements, but I think the "bad foot" is further from a standard foot. It will not hold down the fabric evenly.
I would love to see a pull video with a step down in foam size. For example 3" foam with a pull down to 2" foam. Great content I enjoyed your video series 🤙🤙🤙
I have tried a roller cutter but I just can’t seem to get the hang of it. I will dig it out and practice. Yours looks heavier duty than mine do you have link for that model?
