Portraits of everyday humans like you and me on large format film.
It's official - i'm a jack of all trades and so there's a good chance my video topics vary from time to time. That said my common thread will always be tied around portrait photography. For future video I will heavily focus on film photography. Specifically portraits on medium and large format.
I'm a Headshot and Portrait photographer working out of my studio in Berlin/Germany. I'm also a family man with a little boy, a musician at heart (sax, guitar, vocals, you name it) and a die hard Packers fan.
A fraction of my work and a way to book a session can be found at Headshots-Berlin.de Fell free to connect on instagram for random BTS stories and official work instagram.com/chris_marxen/
Tolle Portraits!
Great pictures! You are on your way to being the German Avedon. Wonderful video Keep doing videos and grow this channel. You have a great on camera personality and I think you will be huge.
Chris that was an awesome what you shared! Thank you! I myself is a photopgrapher I understand what you went through with what you thought, and at the end you've got what you want. you dont get what you want when you dont ask isn't it?
I am so glad to have found this video. It made my morning tea so much better. Please go on with this series, present us more people and their stories. Through video, photography, and your narration. I respect your appreciation for Avedon, however, I would personally choose an approach without the backdrop and let their environment speak too. But that is a personal choice. Please, do continue.
With the white background it certainly reminds me of the Avedon work that you referenced, but when I think of large format portraits of everyday workers in Germany I admit that my first thought is August Sander. Nicely done!
I LOVE stuff like this. So much so that I have set myself a personal photo project of strangers as a subject. It sets my pulse on fire and I'm exhausted but excited after each ask. Please have this as a regular segment. Thank you
Weiter so!
@@ChrisMarxen Ja wirklich wahr!
@@ChrisMarxen of course Chris! It is just the way you explained your thoughts and outlook and feelings towards both him and you and just that moment you mentioned where it was just 2 guys doing what they do and working and the sense of pride and just all of it. Very authentic.
Absolutely lovely work! Often I find myself succumbing to ADHD brain and skipping through videos to just see the final photos, but I felt no desire to do so here; your storytelling is captivating and inspiring. It's fascinating thinking about how a photographer relates to the subjects they ordinarily work with, and I found your insights into the differing perspectives/personality types of your usual clientele compared to Bogdan really interesting. I'm not used to shooting portraits, in the past few years I've been focused on infrared landscapes, but I've become increasingly interested in this sort of thing; seeing videos like this is incredibly motivating with regards to shooting portraits of strangers, and I feel inclined to try sometime with my RB67.
That is such lovely feedback. Thank you so much for taking the time. So glad you enjoyed the video. I hope you find joy in doing something similar with your RB.
Chris, I completely relate to your respect for Avedon, appreciation for the human connection and the beauty of spontaneity. Your humanity shines through in this video and it is wonderful! Gorgeous portraits, bravo. I'm looking forward to joining you on the 4x5 journey this year :)
Oh Ryan you're in for a treat. Large format is a magical process. It really connects you to what you are photographing. Please share your first experience and thanks for your kind words! Have a great 2022.
Hi Chris, really nice honest video and good portraits for sure too! I know now who to ask for my portraits when I am doing crossing of plants with my own hands in my plant breeding job!
I did not excpecting this while clicking on "(...)Portrait with the CHAMONIX(...)". You are talking about, i don't know, about.. life. Important part of life.
Beautiful video. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Everybody go watch it please! And of course thank you for your kind words regarding my own work. You're deeply appreciated ❤️
Great video! I just discovered your channel. :) I have been to Berlin a few times and these are some of the best memories. Also photographing 4x5. Greetings to you and Mr. Bogdan. Marcin from Krakow (Poland) :)
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Always a great reminder that I'm more than overdue for a video. You're subscription shall be reworded! Thanks again mate!
Honest, thoughtful and insightful. Great piece of work both the portraits and this video. Very pleased to have somehow stumbled upon your corner of RU-vid.
Thanks Mark! I feel there is too much content about gear and way to little about what can be done with it. Hope to add my part to change that at least a little bit.
Nice video Chris. And great project! I am from Canada and I am about to work on a similar project here, shooting working people in both 35mm and large format. I find your story very inspiring, and look forward to seeing your next images.
That's awesome Train. Love that you are doing something similar. Let me know, once i can look at your photos. Curious to see some Canadian working people.
Welcome to the LF ride! If you can, go for a lens with a copal shutter. I've been told there are more parts out there and more people who still can repair them.
