Mam, maggie chin is so annoying. She gets off at causing mass panic and being the first to report on it. Seriously, shes dumb. And dont even get me started on the government in this movie. So stupid, i would never agree to make a statement, ever
Such a greatly produced movie for Discovery. I know this film/doc is outdated on info about Yellowstone, but damn its scary that this could end our run here on Earth. I'd love to see a modern day one with newer information such as the discovery of the magma chamber being bigger than previously thought.
Watched this when it first aired, almost 20 years ago. Back then the Climate Change religion was in its nascency. Today, if Yellowstone blew up on this scale - an extinction event - the only positive would be the death of the faux religion, as it would become clear the end of the world as we knew it was NOT caused by mankind's folly. Still, there'd surely be some idiots - choking on volcanic ash, drawing their lasts breaths - willing to blame fossil fuel burning for the super eruption. And some would blame MAGA and the vestiges of systemic racism...
Just started binge watching various documovies I loved as a kid and had to search for this one. So glad it's here! This and Super Comet After the Impact have always been among my favorites.
One of the greatest natural disaster movies ever! ❤❤ Turns out Kenneth was right. Quite genius how they made this movie. They took a kind of documentary and combined it with a natural disaster movie. Made it very very real. Kudos!
You've got at least a few thousand years at a minimum. And it is quite possible that there won't be another eruption at Yellowstone again. We have fifty million years of a pattern of two or three supereruptions before it moves on to another location based on continental drift. So there's no guarantee this movie will ever happen.
Volim takve filmove no nije mi jasno zašto više ne mogu naći onaj. Danteov vrh sa (Pierce Brosnan) i Super vulcano 1975 sa (Tomi Lee Jones) .. Ali cijeli film original. Također filmovi o Super Vulcanu.
It really can't. In fact, the next supereruption from this hot spot might not even happen in Yellowstone itself. We've mapped out previous supervolcanic eruptions associated with this hot spot as it has moved across the country over the past fifty million years. Something we've noticed is that it usually goes off twice or three times, then moves on and goes off again a few million years later. There's craters dotting down the Snake River Valley.
@@ShneekeyTheLost It really can happend in future, in next 10 years.Becuse magma is 6 cilometers under the ground in 2021 year informations that USGS hide informations from everyone. And informatons became from geologist, but not from USGS geologists. Although I hope that there will not be a supereruption but only an eruption within the caldera system.
fun movie. certainly not jumping to conclusions but i have been wondering for a while if activity is iincreasing at yellowstone, and if so, what them means. two major geyser eruptions 2018, 2 this year in 2024. ghe '500 yr' flood event in 2022. the steam boat geyser became the worlds tallest geyser. also the dead animals from 2004.
American bullshit comments always disgusting. This movie reminds me once again exactly how disgusting human bullshit can be. Especially American bullshit
Big words from a small-minded and ignorant troll that doesn't realize that this was written for and produced by the BBC. What does the first B in BBC stand for, my ignorant comrade? That's right - British. So keep on talking - your foolishness only becomes more apparent.
The actually Top kandidat for a big VEI 6 or small VEI 7 Event is the Toba on Sumatra. The Central Island, Samosir, is the biggest ressurractet Dome of all big Caldera- Volcanos. The Volume of Magma under this dome: 300Km³ (70...80m³). See the Earthquakes in the Toba Caldera on ,,Volcano Discovery". Many Earthquakes with magnitude 3 and 4 per Year, and magnitude 5. The Toba is actually the most dangerous Volcanic Monster on this World...
My older brother & I many years back were talking about the inconveniences of a Yellowstone eruption and I quoted this movies line on the odds of "a plane crashing in your backyard". He remarked that years before I was born, he had a dream of a Boeing 707 crash landing in the field across from our farm!
I have always enjoyed this documovie since it came out on the Discovery channel about 20 years ago. However, I have been looking for this on DVD and all I can find are DVD's that are BBC related and do not work on American DVD Players. Thank you sooooo much for sharing!!!!!
Also technically it'll the person that's talking about Italy that is not the only location like Yellowstone that has a super volcano Humanity on the news about possibly maybe one or two super volcanoes button all of reality Humanity does not actually properly know that there are four supervolcanoes on Earth see there is Yellowstone supervolcano there is Greenland super volcano there's Italy's supervolcano then there is Japan's supervolcano so in all of reality there are four supervolcanoes on this Earth see I already knew that there was a super volcano in Italy I knew that because of my past lives
@@eigelgregossweisse9563 no the one in New Zealand is just a baby volcano but the one that sits in Greenland kind of looks like a mountain due to the actual Factor that it has actually been more dormant than Yellowstone it doesn't erupt as much as Yellowstone does that thing is basically been dormant for so long to the point where the human race doesn't even know that it technically is an actual super volcano the only way that humidity will ever find out is eventually when it actually erupts but until then Humanity will continue to keep thinking that there is no supervolcano in Greenland but there is one that actually does sit there like I said it has been dormant lot longer than Yellowstone has but eventually when it does go up it is definitely going to be a quite a show Believe it or not I don't care what the hell you humans technically think I know exactly what sits there But like I said also New Zealand's volcano is just a baby volcano It's a little adorable volcano That's basically what it is Compared to a quite a few other ones out there statistically when technically Greenland's volcano erupts it's going to be 6 times more powerful than Yellowstone but you're more likely won't even see in this lifetime to be honest
@@Sciffyan no that's only half the movie technically the movie is about 4 hours to about 5 hours there is two parts in total I remember because I watched the entire movie and this one you don't even get to watch the volcano erupt and all that stuff I can't ruin it technically if you have not seen the other half of it all I know that they're used to be a second half to that movie I know because I watched it like 2 years ago and then I watched it about I would say 7/8 months ago as well the reason why I know the movie is about 4 to 5 hours when you end up seeing the part with the person talking in the laptop when they end up going into a hole let's put it that way And they find a laptop That part of the scene with that laptop also takes place in Is in the second half of the movie
@@spartans122ouellette3 the first time I watched this movie on a DVD, long time ago. I got that official DVD, published by BBC, from my secondary school. And the length was about two hours. So you are wrong. However, there was also a documentary on that DVD, which was about one hour long
@@Sciffyan C I do also know what I'm talking about because I also recently just watched a second half like 4 months ago so you can go ahead human and say that I'm wrong but I know I'm not you only had half the DVD considering the movies 4 hours long to basically 5 hours long it doesn't just cut write off at that point no I've seen the other half of the movie so you can go ahead and tell me I'm wrong human but I already know what I've watched so again you more likely only have half the movie I guess you never realized about the second half and why the first half cuts off the way that it does
@@Sciffyan also for all we also know the person probably also removed the second half of the movie because what I remember I could ruin the entire other half of the movie to be honest cuz I do remember it exactly
Also like I already stated in my last comment I already knew that Italy is has one of the super volcanoes I stated it for a long time ago there is four super volcanoes on this planet and the reason how I know that there is actually a super volcano in Italy is basically because of my past lives you can read the rest of my comment that actually States the rest of it

@@robinm1729 right, but that's not what he said. He said the "grinding of plates along a known fault line". ChefMatthew is correct - Yellowstone is a fairly unique volcano in that it actually doesn't sit on a tectonic plate boundary, but sits right in the middle of the North American plate, and the volcanism is a result of "hot spot" instead of tectonic plate boundary activity (like most volcanos). You're right about the minor faults, but I think the line that we're taking exception to is the "grinding of plates" part. :)
Sadly this is a baby baby version of what the real damage if this went off would cause the world. As the scientist sort of hinted close to the end I wont live to see it happen is pretty true. 5-10 years of global winter at the very least of the real killers. Famine, disease, chemical and nuclear accidents, yeah this movie just gentle poked at the real damage and left it wisely alone.
@@frereM or you can use a PC to watch this film on DVD. DVD drive in it, though, will have to be flashed with a region-free firmware. But it's not too hard to figure out how to do that
Yellowstone is the super-volcano that gets most of the attention but there are two more in North America alone - Long Valley especially is very active with geothermal and degassing in the form of carbon dioxide coming out of the ground - and others around the world with the one causing the most concern because of its ongoing seismic crisis and uplift being Campe Flagrei in Europe.
Just feel that it should be mentioned that while there is some interesting facts about volcanology in this docudrama, the idea that Yellowstone is going to irrupt, and in the world is nonsense. It’s not even in the top 10 most dangerous volcanic systems in the US, it’s not even in the top 20! And it’s not “overdue” for a super-eruption.
It actually, statistically, is overdue for an eruption. This doesn’t mean it is ACTUALLY overdue, it just means that based on the past increments between eruptions, it should have erupted long ago.
I've seen this movie before and been threw 3 large quakes and a bunch of small ones also the first one that I felt was in Anaconda MT. from the Idaho quake and the 2nd one was on Lost Creek State Park and then the one down in Mexico quake on Easter when my late mother was still alive and she came out and ask me what that was and I told her that it was a quake. My late mother was scared, and I told her not to be scared because I knew what it was.
I never realized how accurate this movie was until I watched this: BBC Supervolcano : The truth about Yellowstone (Full Documentary) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vt07neEU0bU.html
Honestly, compare to this movie’s super eruption, COVID-19 was a walk in the park (we had worse pandemics than COVID before people. The big numbers from deaths is due to the populations when COVID hit, not the virus itself)
“When Mount Vesuvius erupt people stay in their houses. How do we know that?” Best way to to end an argument about staying put during a super eruption. In reality it might not be the safest option depending on how far you are from an eruption.
Truth be told there were people that tried to escape pompeii when Vesuvius erupted that died. Fact the matter is some that did stay also did it to save their possessions because before Vesuvius erupted there was an earthquake strong enough to cause panic and many places were looted in the process. Anyways if you’re in a zone close to Yellowstone that even ash can do damage to your health, stay go up to you, but going doesn’t always mean staying alive
