I think you may be remembering a time that actually didn't exist and looking through some rose tinted glasses. As much as I miss going mach 7 and needing to spend 400k to make a weapon viable, it was actually cheeks if you weren't one of the always online players, so what tended to happen is players just used that speed to swing or get swung and play for desync. Nowadays theres relatively little dying before seeing their model swing the corner.
