I'm Nick Hill and I play guitar, produce and mix with the help of my Line 6 Helix Rack. I also dabble in tutorials and helping others create music just a little more easily.
Badass tone brother, just picked up the Helix, a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 700 and 2 Mesa oversized 412 cabs. Trying to dial in a good tone in my DAW sure is easier than trying to dial in tones to my rig. Followed, you deserve way more followers than you currently have! Keep rocking the new videos and thanks!
Not everyone owns Native, I assume you can come up with that conclusion on your own though if you took the time to be objective and not assert your own opinions on things and yes, the process as we know it in production is called re-amping. Some record the DI and send it out a DI box and go into amps. I suppose that makes the process more "legit," in your narrow view of things. Step back and try and be open to new things and approaches. A different take isn't an attack on the way you prefer or like to do things. This type of comment is not productive in my eyes. By all means, leave constructive feedback, but if you just wanna be a turd and troll, do me a personal favor... Move on. Thanks for the engagement none the less. Have a great day.
I've been trying to build my own tone for a long time and can't get around the "narrow sound" problem. The rhythm guitars sound like a cone in front of my head rather than a more expansive "globe" sound.
2024 and this is literally the exact video I was looking for after sifting through several. How do I use a Helix when I want to actually also use my nice recording interface? Like this, that's how. Clear and easy to follow video.
This comment is comming from a person who owns grail guitars or grail considered guitars i also love modern squire guitars modern epiphone guitars and epiphone guitars made up to 1970 PRS Se guitars and now the 2024 s2 line up because core features now exist in those lesser costing models so buy on sale periods only. if musicman guitars in my opinion looked nicer id buy one so yeah sterling would be fine too if they looked nicer in my opinion...though id buy the famous musicman bass with my eyes closed. Now guitars that were made in the golden period off guitar building manufacture were good but not all off them you think it was all good well that was not akways the case those dream instruments exist but for you to recreate that instrument perfectly is impossible due to factors out off your control and you also don't have another odd 50 years left in you life to watch it age and be here in the future to judge it can all be mimicked as in certain places for eg a place in spain their doing just that using all the old techniques etc but they can only use wood they have on hand with a vintage off about 30 years old, as they state this themselves so they still dont have banned old growth forest select timbers freely available for you or me. that stuff is all but gone unless you pay big and what is still there trades for more money then its worth sold by clever business types who aint gonna let you have the stuff for nothing in the early to mid 80's those murphxy lxbs types and the now day custxm shxp who make really nice ecpensive guitars were just average freds working outta your suburban garages Luthiers turning out good copies off what your paying big dollars for now in those days $800 to $1000 aud would have bought me or you a vintage recreaction a vintage instument itself or a perfect counterfixt instrument i have seen them held them but wont speak about who or where and before we get all save the big brands etc etc no one now days amoungst those accountants and bean counters who run those companies does anything for the fun off it or even for people who are true musicians to them its all cold hard business scrxw music and the people who play it the fools will still buy our over priced recreations so long as you let them they will do just that rip you off blind let your ears and fingers pick you instrument first not your brand snobbery maybe we should all buy squires get on stage play them and the first bs comment throw rotten tomatoes at the first to speak against us get a life snobs big business is laughing all the way to the bank at you all
I'm in the later stages of being a beginner and am itching to move up in equipment. My friend suggested I borrow his Squier Paranormal Rascal and try it out. Compared to my even cheaper (but beloved) Ibanez Mikro, it feels like a giant step up. I love its tone and especially the sustain it gives with the string-through body, even with flats on it! My Mikro with flats can't sustain whole notes all the way through with ease like the Rascal does. It is a blast to play and sounds great! However, its biggest drawback is something that will absolutely prevent me from going in that direction for my next guitar. It weighs a ton and I'm in my fifties and not getting any younger. One of the things that draws me to a more expensive guitar with everything else being equal is how I'll be able to stand with it for much longer. I'm honestly quite tempted by the Reverend guitars that are a little more than twice the price... I've heard that cheap guitars have come a long way. I don't have a lot of experience with a bunch of guitars as a lifetime casual hobbyist, but I do remember my very first guitar (a regular 6-string) in 1988 being a Kay that honestly sucked. Sometimes it didn't stay in tune for more than a few songs and didn't sound good. All the $500 basses I've tried lately are worlds better in every way than that Kay beginner guitar from a lifetime ago for sure. I love how there are so many choices and we are empowered with critical thinking to chew it over and make a rational decision. (Maybe a "Decision P" decision, ha ha!) I agree fully with your sentiment that gatekeeping is some assholery! I might decide to go more expensive for my upgrade but at least there's a legitimate and major temptation to stick with something half the price. Cheers!
Well said! I had a 5-string Squier Jaguar Bass, which I bought back in 2016. It was my first 5-string bass. I gave it to a local friend that I've known since high school. It was a fun bass to play. Almost all of the basses I have are Indonesian-made Squier. I even have a Mini P-Bass and 2 Bronco Basses, great for mod platforms. It's a blessing for Fender to make affordable guitars under their Squier branch. If I ever become a famous bass player, even playing bass for a mainstream pop singer, I'd be happy to play a Squier bass at a live gig. As long as it's playable and enjoyable, it's a big win.
Getting a Stomp tomorrow. I really really hope it will come updated because I read about how stressful it is to install all of the drivers and updates and I myself absolutely hate computers. Am hopeful I will be able to take it somewhere to get it updated if it doesn’t arrive up to date. I am also hopeful I can use the line outs to record it save using USB and DAWs. I have an interface that I use for all my synth stuff so hopefully I can record this in the same way.
There's nothing stressful at all about the process. Simply following the update instructions on Line 6's site has never failed me in all the years I've been updating Helix devices.
I just commented on someone else's channel that I have a Squier Franken-Jazz Bass I leave at my rehearsal studio. The thing sounds and feels great. It has a Vintage Modern Jazz Bass body with a maple Paranormal Jazz Bass neck. I replaced the pickups with a set of DiMarzio Model J pickups, installed new electronics, and put brass saddles on it. I also put a set of Gibson style Top Hat Volume and Tone nobs on it. I was actually trying to go for that 1970's Made in Japan Fender copy look. High-end guitars are great however, you don't need a high-end guitar to play great.
what i do not understand, i have a helix, i have had an xr18 and i now have a cq20b, and it sounds a fair bit better through that, i have ekx1p speakers, so pretty good speakers, i have a dbx pa 2 driverack which again adds so much to the sound, but it will never sound like as good as it seems to sound direct to an audio interface....why is that? its so thick and dynamic through audio interfaces, why does it not sound the same through a pa!! whhhyy.
Luckily enough, I played everything clean as well. Plus, I like writing and playing so why wouldn't I put heavy riffing in it as well. Hopefully my next string comparison lives up to the harsh and stringent acceptable parameters for your liking. All jokes aside, I always appreciate a watch and a comment. It feeds the algorithm the same way.
I just bought a whole big auction lot with many Squier guitars/basses in it. Although I have more luxurious instruments here in my shop... I was able to get each of them setup and playing well for the next guy. For youth to learn on... or for someone who wants to try guitar/bass as a rookie... it's a very usable tool.
The amp used by meshuggah from the pod era is the big bottom, fairly usable still nowaday (you can check buster odeholm use tath amp for vildjharta tone) and the badonk is the newest version of it. Meshuggah used it on catch 33. Another thing.... In every meshuggah tone video you can see people crank the mid in the amp, this is the first video where I see them scooped... Had to try
Thank you for your review, and I do like Squier, and I have had a few different Classic Vibe Precision and Jazz basses, and I have changed out pickup’s, Capacitors, potentiometers etc. I ended up selling them because I didn’t like the color they had to offer. I would buy it and try to convince myself that I was just fine with the color, but that is the the furthest thing from the truth. What a crook of crap. I was full of my own sh#t! Anyway I can ramble on forever. I am officially worse than my mother! God bless her for putting up with me. I am pretty sure I am going to buy a Jaguar w/ the burst. I already have a Fender Jaguar, but I don’t have that pickup configuration or the concentric volume and tone potentiometers. Gorgeous bass!
I know a guy whos played with Aretha Franklin, Sting etc. His go to comfort bass is a Squire Precison. I have a Squire Jazz that cost me £200 Dont need to spend over 3000 again.
Just came over from your other video with the green/blue T body with Warmoth neck. This 1 looks really sweet. I'm in love with partscaster because it's just easier getting pieces and making what I like. Have a few Fender Squires/Starcaster (yikes) . Did 2 and about to make my 3rd but no baritone mods. Looking to rectify that. Thank you bro
Great video man, thinking about purchasing one….do you have any advice on intonation and setting up the saddles for that…or does the evertune self intonate as well ?
I was a union stagehand on the Las Vegas Strip19 years ago. I set up the stage for Crosby Stills & Nash for a show (Crosby had a Dumble!) and asked their guitar tech what guitars they were using. Squiers with Lindy Fralin pickups.
I have several 2k+ dollar basses, including a USA Jazz, Warwick Thumb, Custom made graphite neck (Jazz bass style). One day at the music shop picked up a Squire 50s precision as wall art for under 200 bucks. I used it to do some jamming at a friends place and was so impressed with the neck feel, that I kept working with it... I switched the pickup with a 50's Seymour Duncan, set it up good, and It's now my number 1 recording and playing bass... The tone is crazy good.
Just purchased it, and really like how dynamic is it and at the same time pushes you to carve out that gnarlyness from base. Tried it on squier precission and gl l-2500, and humbuckers on gl gives me a propper results! Anyway thnx for awesome preset!
I am so blessed. I have an Arcade poly'd roasted maple neck on a Fender "Hendrix" body (HSH), an all Warmoth VR Flying V (HSH), an all Warmoth Diamondback (HH) with Dimarzio Super Distortions and a guitar synth in it, a Harley Benton Prince Body with a Warmoth Tele neck (SSS) - and I still have more irons in the fire including wanting to finally get a Baritone conversion for a Jazzmaster body I have laying around though tune it like a Bass VI. The quality of Warmoth is top notch and as long as I'm alive and playing I'll likely always look to them first for new projects. I had a situation years ago where I spent SERIOUSLY stupid money on a customer instrument (one I'm still paying off) when I was disappointed in what I received. Typically if it's far out and I can't make it with Warmoth I question if I need it. There just isn't any reason for most people to buy something stupid and uncertain when you can get ball park with Warmoth and have a lifetime player.
I have a 2011 VM Special Jaguar Bass, also black, looks the exact same. Only thing I don't like is the boost circuit. I don't like having to put batteries in my guitars. I am thinking of modifying it to remove it.
Thanks for the video! I changed it a little, instead I boosted the depth and got the bass low. I swapped the exact settings compared to yours. Personally I like it a bit more like that, because I think the low end is somewhat tighter. And I used an Own Hammer IR and have the Djent High Gain and the V version.
Tried this out really quickly with a Deluxe Reverb model in the Stomp, York Dexlue Reverb IR, 170 PowerStage into a closed back 1x12 and it sounded amazing.
When you build a PC, you buy a bunch of parts, and they all click into place. We still refer to this as building a PC. Using this same logic I can conclude that buying a bunch of guitar parts and putting them together does qualify for building a guitar. I might be over analyzing it.
