I'm not a speedrunner. Never have been. I grew up on Atari 2600, Megadrive. Games were 1 fun part of my childhood. I never thought they were helping me. Maybe they were. Over the years, I've always played games for fun and escapism. Very rarely do I play on high difficulty. So I don't challenge myself. The bananas? Who cares? A has 1m, B has 1bn. They both have enough. 😊 I have other things in my life that keep me happy. Games are still fun for me. I don't overthink it. Sometimes I struggle to get excited about some games. So I play something else. Enjoyed the video, Ant. Thanks 😊
What time do you stream? I swear it feels like I haven't seen you stream in years, but I guess it's just the hours you stream are impossible for me lol.
want to see the game glitch? Enable DS4 Windows connect ps4 controller, push option button in local mode and it will play as two characters! LOL so weird, enjoy!
Dunno why it bugs me but I always felt they should of put the robots in earlier on stage 7, just talking about the main game, never felt they where a boss character but a cool edition to the game regardless. Why I wrote this I don’t know, guess my brains just doing over time. Keep up the fun content bud
Something I like to do on the r.bear not sure if it would work with 2. But I keep him up the top right corner on stage 8 and keep sliding 9 times out of 10 he stays there and I'm able to kill him with no damage. Might be worth trying with both of them
All Hail! You are the Chosen One with a Midichlorian count that could rival Master Yoda's, you can hit a womprat and turn even the darkest of souls to the light side! Congratz on your first! :)
Man, i despised those Z dudes they're like the opposite of Donovan because they'll uppercut you real quick before you jump kick them and worse, they'll catch a thrown weapon whenever you toss it (for an example, you throw a knife, he'll catch it just like that) Such a pain.
Great run as usual. I downloaded new era, latest version, and notice my options screen is different than yours. I don't have the level select, mania, etc. Are those earned?
Always wondered with this game where did the biker go after he threw the bombs in level 5 right before boss bker throws the bombs and disappears never comes back lol
Old guy gamer here. Yep ya figured it out. I go through that exact very "cycle". I sometimes stop gaming for six months, refill, then ravage games for months to then stop again. LOL. Gotta use that thing below the Saggital crest and in front of the post caudal bun. 😂
A very thought provoking video... you put into words and explained things in a very good way from a different perspective things that i have though of before. Mostly regarding wastig time, and not enjoying "fun" activities, becUe my desire for growth is greater than my desire for "fun" (what even is fun?) Stopped really enjoying games in about 2008. I loved them so much as a kid and teen I chose to pursue 3d graphics as a career. I stopped caring about playing games, and i was more concerned with making them. I really enjoyed a select few ( and still do on occasion ), but ifs few and far between. Almost chasing the old high i once got. Been "floundering" in my 3D graphics "career" because i keep getting this thought that maybe video games are not a worthy endevour. By succeeding in creating them, i may be doing a bad thing. Maybe my desire to enjoy gaming again is an attempt to lie to myef that games are a worthy endevour. The logic part of my brain says that video games can be good in moderation like all things if the game is actually of good quality. ( like a good film or book) Yet, the majority of gsmes i dont believe have very much positive value. I have some things to ponder on
Not going to lie I clicked on this video planning to dislike it and post a snarky comment about how it wasn't gaming that stopped being fun, you did. I wasn't even going to watch the video, I assumed it was just another garden variety cynic farming clicks and engagement from depressed millennials. Good God was I wrong. Thank the stars I decided to actually watch this video before I passed judgement. See I've been wondering for months now how to make gaming less Dopaminergic (pleasurable but unfulfilling, because doparmine) and more Seratoninergic (satisfying/happiness inducing, because serotonin). You know those "God wants you to watch this video" channels? I think God really did want me to watch this video. I have my answer. It was staring me in the face for years. Now I know. Thank you so much.
Thought I'd throw this out here: I read a paper a few years back where the author measured happiness by the number of times a person smiles in a day. So for example, a gambling/gacha addict at a slot machine might get dopamine rushes, but their faces are typically pale, which sort of indicates they're not having fun. I think a similar approach can be applied towards gaming. If one plays Elden Ring's DLC and walk out feeling like shit, then it may not be their kind of game. If one finishes an RPG and the story doesn't warm their heart, make them smile or laugh, then perhaps the story isn't their cup of tea. If one rages and sighs from playing a competitive FPS, then perhaps they should re-evaluate playing that particular game. Overall thumbs up. A lot of my sentiments seem to align with yours, as I'm a utilitarian person at heart myself😁
That was the best 21 minutes I've spent today. I'm 40 some years old and don't enjoy video games anymore, but you made sense of that and why. Brother thanks for letting us into that awesome mind of yours.
I wish the video game industry was not so transparent with the predatory nature and design philosophy behind most AAA games It'd actually give us room to consider that maybe we grow out of being able to enjoy something. Nah dude they figured out a while back making you squirm is a lot more profitable than making you happy
Man, I had the best time in games when emotion came first. Making little stories for the anonymous foot soldiers in warcraft, making suboptimal combat decisions in RPG's because of the characters' motivations, etc. etc. Hard to rekindle that play style as an adult once you see the systems behind the gameplay so clearly.
I don't know what's up with that tangent with lion cubs planting billions of bananas... pretty much went nowhere. Games were never supposed to be "useful" - it is a dumb fun waste of time, same as movies, board games, most of the books, alcohol, cuisine, etc. Acknowledging it is _fine._ Life is full of interesting but useless things. You don't challenge yourself to become an alcoholic, if you feel that drinking stopped being fun, do you? Just find something else that tickles your fancy. Something that grows from your waning passion to games: gaming --> refurbishing consoles --> hacking controllers --> some engineering work or software design. It might also be useless, but fun way to avoid brain rot!
You're on the right track. You're thinking but giving up too quickly; or at least that's how it seems to me. If you didn't get anything out of the bananas, just so you know, that has nothing to do with me and everything to do with you. What does it say about you, that you think the bananas went nowhere? As silly as it sounds, think about the bananas and what it says about you and who you are. Perhaps I'm not as deep as I think I am, or you're not as deep as you think you are. Who knows :)
@@Anthopants I don't mind being stupid (if that is what you imply) - it feels invigoratingly liberating! You should try it sometimes. Your video made it feel like you are somehow locked in with an obligation to play videogames to succeed, so you justify it with bananas. It is like it stops you from pursuing something else. It almost feels like a regret.
Stupid? No. Not saying that at all. I'm actually saying the opposite. Also, no one is more stupider than me. I'm the king of stupid. The video talks about a lot of things, regret is one of them. Don't worry about being smart of dumb or any of that nonsense. I'm curious to see everyone's willingness to think and where it leads them :)
Great analysis and very important for people to understand. Find goals that you can use to "level up" and keep growing. Study, learn, do things, try new stuff, get better at things, fail, fail again, fail some more, then succeed. The most successful people in life have failed more times than you've ever tried.
