So glad that Chris Price got him to make one last album - and boy did they hit it out of the park. Such a great album with great songs, arrangements and musicians. RIP Emitt.
The one thing that kills me Is in 2020 I went to call him and I dialed the first four numbers and then I hung up because he just wasn't a phone person, but I was just hoping this time he would pick up but changed my mind and he was dead the next morning.
The episode where uncle aurthur and serena were dipping bananas was word for word from the episode of I Love Lucy where Lucy and Ethel worked at the choclate factory.
What’s with the trolls trolling in the comments? Gay subtext has been in film and television since it’s inception. Their really so insure they wanna downplay or erase that? Reminds me of those guys who freak out when they see videos on vintage images of men openly and physically affectionate with each other. They always wanna say they were just close friends and people are seeing something that’s not there.
I guess it's the "door prize" for you! Sad, you actually stay up at night putting together trivia like that when Hamas is attacking Israel?? Get a life!!
It's just for fun folks. This was almost 60 years ago and I'm just enjoying it for what I see as a wink from the actors and writers. I didn't want to have to go through and turn it into a scholarly lecture on the metaphors AND STEREOTYPES. Just glad they got away with it during a very repressive time. Obviously this kind of obfuscating the comparative nature of wouldn't be necessary even a decade later. And even if it was unintentional - it's funny - She's not a woman - she's not? well, sir, let me commend you on an amazing disguise - Darrin if you want a vacation you don't have go through this fruitcake routine (a common slur for gay 60 years ago) Just poking a bit of fun
Anita Bryant used the fruit pie card when she was hit in the face with what looked like a chocolate cream pie. Poor Anita. I guess she’s hanging in there, old and broke.
What he means by “gay subtext” is that witches are a Metaphor in the show for “being different” and taboo. Just like Gay people are in society. Gay subtext also refers to camp and camp language, wit and delivery. You can see it in any scene with Endora in it or uncle Arthur. It’s all camp.
It's all heavily projected onto it and retrofitted to suit whichever nonsense narrative and agenda you like. As opposed to simply enjoying something for what it is everything has to be jammed into a ridiculous 'tribe', or some profound quasi-religious 'meaning'. You can read whatever you like into anything--the religious tend to do so all the time. Sincerely, A humble gay guy who's sick to death of this rubbish.
enjoy it anyway you want to@@Lycaerix - this isn't about a "tribe" - this was the 1960s when being gay was a crime in most states. Obviously that kind of subterfuge wouldn't be needed 6 decades later - Elizabeth Montgomery said they talked about it on set in her interview with the advocate in 1994
That is probably true but Elizabeth Montgomery said they talked about it on set in her interview with the advocate in 1994 - just not in production meeting for fear of scaring producers and net execs
My favorite show, I love it!!!!! Endora is sophisticated, gorgeous and flamboyant!!!! Dick York is the best Darrin!!! This show is so funny!!!!! ❤❤❤...
I just saw an interview with Paul Lynde and he was amazed at how people recognized him as Uncle Authir, while only doing ten episode. The title is a bit misleading, hower, BEWITCHED was of the first shows to use gay actors in key roles. There's a video out here on YT that gives the perspective of the show. Here's the link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1it8-y4gWwg.htmlsi=WY0jlycbruWw1uxv
They were lying in the 60s bc they had to - you know, gay acts were punished arrest even in New York, witches were burned at the stake. It's a metaphor. But them having to keep their "true nature" a secret" was real..
