My Name is Jewan Charran. This is a Channel to share the sounds, tips and exercises that I've used to enhance my life. It's contains voices of yesteryear. Sounds from Guyana, the Caribbean, the US and India. A Potpourri of teaching and music long forgotten. Much more to come in the coming months.
Thanks for your input. Yep, he really does a good job. Very deliberate. Easy to understand. I enjoy it very much too. Easier than having to find a tape player to hear it. Cheers. Jewan Charran.
@@jewanc465 👍💯% Jiwan-ji, tum bohot acha kar ti ti ho. Btw, I am going to make a correction , i said Bhajan" but it's a mantra... I only know some words in Hindi and Bhojpuri.... But mujhe Sanskrit nahi aty ho mera dosti.... Mein Sanskrit bil kul nahi samja
@@Augusto_Marquez01 Well my dost(friend), I had to turn on google translate to figure out some of the words. Thanks for dropping this line. I like writing but it's about 2 Am in the San Francisco Bay Area where I live but I am originally from Guyana and I don't know much of Hindi or Bhojpuri but I know a lot of prayers and how to use them in a pooja. I am off to bed. Two hours at the gym and 90 minutes of Vocal Training to sing next month is more my body can handle now. Thanks. I live a life that leads to Happiness.. Cheers. Good Morning or good night where ever you may be. Jewan Charran.
You are most welcome. I love this song dearly too. I remember having this 45 in 1973 and man did I play it. Thanks for dropping me a line. Jewan Charran.
Thanks for visiting the site. I've haven't uploaded much of The Tradewinds songs because lots of guys do that. Here is a clip from my buddy's channel. He has many uploaded there. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4LdFkKx3WpQ.htmlsi=KwrMTTUMbGFCEYZY
There are more tunes from him. I have him playing the music for a bhajan LP. I would post it some day. I can't lay my hands right now on any more but I have a brother who has a huge collection of music. However, he lives on the East Coast and I live in California. When I visit him next I would go through his collection and find some good stuff. Cheers. Jewan.
Thanks a bunch from Toronto. Such melodic music brings back wonderful memories. I remember given an eight track by my elder brother, who had the pleasure of meeting Sir Maharaja. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Keep up the wonderful work.🎉❤
I still can figure out what it translates to. I would spend some time on google translate and figure it out. thanks for awakening my curiosity once again. Jewan.
The number of times I heard this track. The original by Mukesh, then Lata Mangeshkar's tribute to Mukesh from the Shraddhanjali album. A more updated version is by Raymond Ramnarine & Dil E Nadan, along with the "Raja" Rakesh Yankaran. 🇹🇹 🇬🇾 🇺🇸 🇨🇦
Devindra Pooran the Mukesh (1923-1976) of Guyana 🇬🇾. Have some of his material on CD 💿 & cassette. A CD entitled From Heart ❤️ to Heart (1997) & Manga Tha Pyar (1998). If you look on RU-vid, he (like everybody else) has his on RU-vid page. Beautiful performance 🎶 🎵 📻 🎙
Devindra Pooran is from a village that produced Dave Martin of the Tradewinds. Back in the days there wasn't any bridge across the Demerara River and the last ferry was at 7:50 PM. Electricity came to the villages in the mid 60's. Only on a small scale so that area produced a lot of talent. Musical talent.
Thanks for reaching out. Please reach out for more info. I haven't got a clue. You can check line. I am sure someone somewhere has it up for sale. One more thing my name is jewan charran.
Have this on cassette- side B to Karamchand Maharaj's Soca Dandiya (1985). I remember a DJ here in Florida did a tribute to Kanchan when she died in 2004. Those days I was in high school. Babla & Kanchan took Sundar Popo's music to another level!!! 🇹🇹 🇬🇾
Yea Misir, it's so good to hear of someone from the good old days of West Dem music especially before the bridge was built when we supposed to come from this remote. Hopefully you are in kind of music? Cheers Bro.
I am still listening to music. But not really singing. I listen to all music genres - Jazz, blues, pop, Indian, West Indian etc. The music that you are hosting here is also special to me as well. It is part of the early days - the music you used to hear on the radio, people like Pancho Carew, Matthew Allen, Eshri Singh, Ayube Mohammed etc. that shaped our generation. Also the Bhojpuri style of singing is dying out which is part of my heritage and part of the Caribbean musical fusions. I will check your channel from time to time. Good luck Jewan
@@rogermisir8563 Misir, glad to hear. There is Clement Ragobir and also Lloyd Budhram "Insights and Voices of GBC Radio" might appeal to you. There are like me, trying to bring the sounds of Guyana from years gone by. The three of us are doing it strictly to preserve our past sounds. I am in all kinds of music too but my favorite is blues followed by Classical. Beethoven, Bach, Mozart etc. Further more if you go on my Facebook Page you'll see lots of pictures of west dem from way back in the 40's. Cheers Misir. Jewan Charran.
A true gift from god. An extremely quiet person in real life too. He lived in a place called Nanny Park in Guyana after he married to an Indian Guyanese Lady. That was in the early 80's.
Let me help you out a little bit here- Rote Hue Aate Hai Sab is from Muqadar Ka Sikandar (1978) sung by Kishore Kumar. Pyar Diwana Hota Hai is also by Kishore Kumar from the film Kati Patang (1970). Rahi Manwa Dukhi is from Dosti (1964) sung by Mohammed Rafi. The duet "Mujhe Teri Mohabbat Ka" us from Aap Aaye Bahaar Ayee (1971) by Lata Mangeshkar & Mohammed Rafi. If you type in the artists names along with the song- you will not only get the song, you might also see the picture (remember these are films songs). I don't know if you saw many films in Guyana, but you will see stars like "Bombay Superstar" Rajesh Khanna (1942-2012) or Rajendra Kumar (1929-1999) & Sadhana Shivdasani (1941-2015). Some other songs on this LP would be "Hum Tujhse Mohabbat Karke Sanam" from Awara (1951) with Raj Kapoor & Nargis. or "Sau Saal Pehle" from Nasir Hussain's Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai (1961) with Dev Anand & Asha Parekh. "Dham Bhar Jo" was also from Awara (1951). Would love to cross paths with you uncle Jewan Charran!!! Give me your # so maybe I could talk or even Whatsapp you!!! (Look at me being sold bold/brazen)!!!! 😂🤣
Thanks Riyadh. That's quite an in depth description of the music and the historical background. I saw some Hindi films in Guyana, as a matter of fact a fair amount. After Karz I called it quits. .
I also have this on tape. As I mentioned earlier, if you look up on Discogs you can track/see what you have in your collection. I just enjoy this music simply because it tis no longer played in Trinidad. Not many youngsters (people in their 20,30s'- 40s') even know Harry Mahabir (1933-2006) and his sons Nari & Mukesh Mahabir. Uncle Jewan, you are something else!!! I have the LP BWIA National Indian Orchestra Live At The Queen Elizabeth Theatre from 1979. It has some beautiful instrumentals & some songs sung by Polly Sookraj. Boss, I commend you!!! Somebody once told me that young people only like Chutney/ film (theater) songs nowadays because of the melody/beats. To me you have to go a little further & understand the Hindi- once you do that, you will realize that some of these classic songs are not only love songs, they teach you about life. Just like Calypsoes by the Mighty Sparrow, Lord Kitchener- whoever you want to call!!!
Cool Kid. Keep spreading the word and music. That's the only way to keep the memory and culture alive. It's for this reason that I started uploading things to this channel. cheers.
@@jewanc465 Unlike you, I have a small collection. If I get my hands on more albums, I will enjoy them as much as I can. I don't think too many young people (20s,30s') would know & appreciate Trinidad & Guyana's culture of long ago.
Thanks for the Info. I remember hearing a few of these songs in films but I don't know quite a few. I have to refresh my knowledge of Hindi songs. Thanks.
Since you said its hard to find this has to be his first recordings- Innovations II from 1981 and so on. After a while, these recordings are truly hard to track. That's why you never give up & or give away your stuff- records, cassettes & CDs (unless you have to). Discogs is there for you to catalogue your collection- also to add to your wish list. But why worry? RU-vid is there.
Thanks you very very much for your sentiments and wisdom. I live in Northern California and in my travels I've tried many time to find folks who were willing to work with me and set up a channel to preserve these music. I started out this project a few years ago during one of the Caliornia's fire storm and I wondered if these things were lost so I started up loading things to youtube. Hopefully some takes it and saves it. This channel is not for financial interest. My buddy Clement Ragobir also had the same issue so he started a channel too. Thanks for commenting. About the records/tape I was mostly into Rock/Blues music but know my Hindi music too. I had left the region by the time these songs were recorded.
I have tons of non commercial things I brought out and collected over the years of Guyana and the Caribbean. If I find more I'll definitely share. Thanks for dropping a line. Oh my channel is not Monetized and it's exclusively dedicated to sharing little things of yesteryear. Cheers.
I have no idea my friend. I bought the LP in Toronto and recorded to a cassette. I left with someone. That relationship died and so was the ownership of the LP. This was 1997. Cheers. Time for some yoga before bed. cheers.
Great Album. I used the song from Jaal, the second song on the this clip, at Parties before for people to dine and socialize with. The good old days of DJ with records.
@@samakbar5759 No no bro. I did private events only. I was a musician, cricketer and a host of other things. fast cars etc. I have been in Northern California since the very early 80's.
Brother, I have this on cassette TDK D60. I have an LP of Karamchand Maharaj- Innovations 4 MO Records (1990). I wish I had this one from 1985- this is just too sweet- sweet like honey 🍯, sugar cane, however you want to phrase it!!! Thank You Very Much for this!! Childhood memories & beyond. Remember, he also played music on some of Sundar Popo's LPs - Sundar Soca (1986) & Indian Soca (1987). Where are you? Trinidad 🇹🇹, Canada 🇨🇦 or the US 🇺🇸?
Hello There. Thanks so much for dropping me a line. I first heard his mastery on a religious LP back in the late 70's. I left my native Guyana a few years later and moved to Northern California. I played in a few bands in Guyana before I left and played in a few groups out here. Blues/Rock. I, however, have always had a good collection of what I refer to as classic. These LP's I have were purchased during my travels. Thanks. I still live in Northern California, just outside of San Francisco. cheers and regards. If I can find someone to help me I have hundreds of LP to upload.
@jewanc465 I don't have much in my collection. Some I bought, some I got in Trinidad 🇹🇹, the others were gifts. I have cassettes & about 200 CDs - not to mention VHS tapes & DVDs' 💿- Indian films & Classic films- Streetcar Named Desire (1951), Cleopatra (1963), The Godfather (1972)- all on DVD 📀. You are out West in California. I am East- The Sunshine 🌞 State of Florida!! 😂 How we will manage to cross paths is beyond me!!!
@@riyadhrafique8377 Hello There once again. If you were to look at some of the things I've uploaded it included 78's from the 40's and 50's and some 45's out of Trinidad from the 60's. I also studied classical music for a while and so I have lots of LP.s by Bach, Beethoven Mozart etc. Crossing Paths is called Life. Nothing happens without a reason. I just cancelled a trip planned in October to Guyana and Barbados. I may go there during the Thanksgiving period. Cheers. Thanks for writing. I am also on FB. Jewan Charran. Cheers. Heading out to get some work done.
@@riyadhrafique8377 No No No. I am not better or worse than anyone. I am just have a well to do family and I cultivated the attitude than no matter how much times I fall I quickly get right back up, dust myself off and move on. cheers. The more I fall it's better for me. cheers.
Thanks very much for leaving this comment. I truly appreciate this and you are welcome. I would continue posting as much as time permits. Jewan Charran.
Thanks Randy. I've been around and played different kinds of music since I was a kid growing up in Guyana. I still continue although my guitar playing fingers are rusty due to lack of practice. Jewan Charran. Thanks.
Thanks your inquiry. I tried Shazam and I have no idea. I would ask on one of my buddies. I have been out of the region more than 40 years so I am kind of rusty on my local music knowledge.
I am glad you were there. At this point I was gone for more than 10 years and this was the only way for me to get that feeling by listening to these tapes. Now I am sharing it. Thanks for commenting. Jewan charran.
Thank you for sharing! Fond memories! My Dad bought Innovations 2 on a trip to Trinidad many, many years ago. We would listen to the album on Sunday morning. Great music 🎶
Thanks for your refreshing comments. I truly appreciate this. I have two more of his LP's that I just found that I may upload as soon as I find some time. Glad to hear. I remember hearing a few LP's in the late 70's at the start of his career when he backed guys doing devotional. I left Guyana soon after and also the community as I resettled on the Pacific Coast side of the US. One day I said I would hate to pass on and not share some rare pieces of music that I am still in possession of. so I started to upload some things. Thanks a million for sharing your story. Jewan Charran.
I have this Lp in my collection ..has seen this show live.... the voice of the announcer is the late Shaheed Pierkhan (younger brother of the late Rashied Pierkhan owner/director of Radio Paramaribo ( Rapar ) and Distributor of Bollywood and West Indies record in Suriname.)
I had left the region when this was recorded. At this point in time I had vaguely remembered Devindra Poran as the band I was in at that time was a few miles away from the band he played in. The announcer has a powerful voice. I didn't understand I word he said but I could feel the power. I would have loved to have been there for this show. Cheers Bhai. Happy Pagwah.
I have enough tapes and records to that's impossible for me to upload. One day I have to pass on my collection to someone as it would be a shame not to share it. Thanks bro.
@@jewanc465 Thank you ... I try to upload what i can... because many local productions are lost already... so we are trying to keep that alive ... after me i hope my kids can continue this.....
I would try to upload as much as I can because once I am gone that's it. I have a collection of LP's, 45's and some 78's from the 40's and 50's. @@rajinderSarnamwala
