This fight is labeled as a robbery by some. I took the time to see these amazing highlights, and I had it 7-5 for Canelo. Lara could have gotten a draw at best, but my eyes did not see him win this fight. I’m Cuban 🇨🇺 and a fan of Lara since he was amateur. Great fight though, and shame to those who said that he was running. Those clearly have never put on boxing 🥊 gloves.
I think Lara clearly won this fight. He's not the same as Floyd because Floyd runs, holds and uses his arms illegally throughout the fight. Lara uses footwork and there's nothing illegal about that. Of course he wouldn't stand toe to toe, but as long as he didn't hold, use headlocks, use his forearms and elbows to push off, then what he was doing is called boxing. A big hitter like Canelo doesn't like it, his fans don't like it, but you can't show where Lara clinched/held even once in the fight. A guy that constantly clinches and/or uses his arms to push off illegally absolutely ruins a fight for me. It makes for a dull fight, this fight wasn't dull. In all 12 rounds of these highlights, they showed Canelo land 3 head shots, none were clean devastating shots. Canelo landed a lot of hard body shots, many were blocked and some missed. Hard body shots alone should never win a fight in my opinion, unless the other guy does nothing. In the highlights Lara landed all clean head shots, used both hands and landed countless combinations of 2 or more shots. Nobody goes into a fight planning to throw 90% body shots, but Canelo did that because he was forced to. Lara was almost unhittable to the head. Imo, power shots to the head count for double what a jab or body shot count for. Power head shots are much more difficult to land than a jab or body punch, and overall, they do more damage. In this fight Canelo landed plenty of solid body shots, but he never hurt Lara or slowed him down much, if at all. That means those body shots landed and count for points, but they were ineffective in terms of hurting the opponent. Canelo wasn't hurt either, but Lara put on a boxing clinic and really made Canelo look bad for at least the first 6 or 7 rounds. I think Lara won 8 rounds or more in the fight. It's not a knock on Canelo, a big power puncher simply doesn't win every fight, and Lara is the kind of skilled boxer that can beat a big hitter such as Canelo.
I think he is supremely talented! Also, I dont think he does it to insult his opponents , IMO he does it naturally, it is like he feels it Or perhaps 90% naturally and 10% showboating 😄. It is like the pianist Lang Lang 😬
His showboating not only makes him harder to hit but provides a rhythm that helps him set up to throw punches. Ain't no law against it, so good luck to him.
