Being a Metal and Rock fan for my whole life, I've never liked the emphasis put on "genre or sub genre". I am by no means an expert, but to me as a musician it seemed like something created to categorize and define music for profit by non musicians. Like lines on a map they exits but once you get to a level of musical understanding, the lines become irrelevant because they aren't actually there.
Seen them play live, three times over the past 16 years. They are an amazing, multifaceted, capturing, gripping and funny live band. In my mind, The Crane Wife album is closely tied to my first pregnancy. I love "Eli, The Barrow Boy", "Yankee Bayonet", "The Sporting Life", "Make You Better", and "We both go down together", I could go on...
The ACA Boss pedals will either A) sound like crap or B) they flat out will not work. ACA 87 Boss CS 3 for example is one that will not perform using a PSA adapter sounds horrible. Just my experience and I have a bunch of ACA Boss pedals. I am talking about adapters only, using 9 volt battery they seem to work OK.
Kansas was my intro to prog. I just got into high school and didn't know those kind of things before as I was just learning to listen to music. I just know that I loved this album, still one of my favorite albums almost 50 years later.
I have really enjoyed Yes over the years, or up to the Big Generator album. There are also many albums I haven't explored like Topographic Oceans, Going For the One and Drama -- which I have at least heard and own on vinyl. For me, Close to the Edge is just too long winded. I need to be brought back into the music, like the part of the song used in the video. There is a lot of lyrical prancing and obscurity and mysticism or whatever in a lot of Yes's music but I'm less into the 20 minute meandering tunes which I can't even understand. You have to be stoned, or driving on a long trip to even listen to a 20 minute song. I also can't stand those 20 minute Zep live songs, mostly Dazed and Confused. Wow, 10 minutes of D and C is all I need. And what is Zep's Carouselambra even about. Who can tell what Plant is singing. But, I'm off topic.
People talk about great guitarists, but Ian is truly overlooked. This guy was a shredder before many of the well known ones came along. But what makes him special is the fact that he's a well rounded guitarist that can manipulate the guitar to sound the way he wants it to and the song requires.

Bellissimo pezzo, è bellissimo anche il fatto che le note del giro di chitarra vengono riprese da Di Giacomo sul pezzo " Dopo... Niente è più lo stesso".😢
Thank you soooo much! But with the final mix down, do you lose your 'raw' recordings ( your vocals on ch 1& 2) ? Are you able to change your levels of reverb (plate) later if you don't like it afterwards? Thank you!
Thank you Dean. It was valuable to hear a musician I listened to when I was young and have him answer my questions. It was interesting that he considered the Beatles the first prog band and appreciated Paul's bass playing. I will listen to the new album.
I’m sure someone has already said it but videotape I think the percussions you talked about being machine like is supposed to sound like an old vcr tape as it winds
This song, based on the Hermann Hesse novel "Narcissus and Goldmund" beautifully captures the 14th century Central European mood. Kerry Livgren is an amazing song writer that inexplicably doesnt read music. The Lord has blessed him with amazing talent to reach others including myself to learn about Him and His amazing grace. Kerry was the primary keyboardist and guitarist for the band. They recorded this album in 2 weeks, incredible!!!
Prog pop? An attempt to define a not-so--commercial pop genre? Pooh always gave me the feeling they could do a lot more with their technical skills, unfortunely they chose money instead of pure art at the most.
Attahk was my first MAGMA album. A friend copied it from vinyl to cassette. The last Track Nono is great. Now, 40 years later, Magma is still one of my absolute favorite bands. Now we have digitally remastered versions where you can hear the spirit of the music better than ever.
