Thankfully I had access to a machine shop on site so I was able to make a custom extractor tool. If you don't, buy the extractor tool when you buy the replacement cartridge. You'll wreck your pipes otherwise

Hello. The FLO Device will be positioned with the arrow pointing in the direction of the flow of water into the dwelling. The shut-off can be installed in either a horizontal or vertical position.

Due to calcium buildup in the pipe, I was able to remove the cartridge only by reattaching the handle tightly with the set screw (after removing the cartridge nut) and pulling moderately hard. I was also only able to install the new cartridge the same way. Aligning everything and then pushing down on the cartridge with the handle attached. Don't forget to reattach the cartridge nut!

Hello @rynegade. Putting the screw back into the stem of the cartridge does seem to give you more/better leverage to pull out the cartridge. We also recommend cleaning & flushing the valve body prior to installing the new cartridge. Hello @rynegade. Depending on how long the cartridges have been in service and if the water flowing through them is hard or high in mineral content, can make it difficult to remove the cartridges from the valve body.

1:52 critical moment!!! I installed this backwards and was able to fix asap. 1:55 I wouldn't install the cartridge like that. I would manuallt press the plastic flanges so it fits inside nicely and until in place. It won't be a smooth fit. Check other youtube videos.

While placing the cartridge inside the valve, please use the twisting tool to push the new cartridge into the valve body. Hello jonathansimbulan. The Moen Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff should be installed after the water storage tank. The device should be placed after (downstream) of all treatment and filtration components to avoid debris interference. If it is necessary to install the device prior to a water filtration system, a wye strainer with a 100 mesh or finer screen and blow-down port is required to catch any sediment or particles from the ground source or casing. The mesh screen in the strainer may require periodic maintenance. If you have any additional questions, please contact our Smart Water team. Hello RookFett. The Moen Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff requires a minimum clearance of 3" from the wall for the 900-001and 900-006. I had to use CLR calcium remover to get my cartride out, took about an hour of inching it out. The CLR dissolves the calcium then we had it out in about five minutes. Put the CLR on it first.

Hello normferguson2769. The Moen flush mount body sprays are designed to be installed with the rough-in Moen model S1300. The Moen S1300 includes a plaster ground that is approximately 4 ½” in diameter and requires a maximum hole size of 4 5/8” in diameter.

Tip: when reseating the retaining clip, hold on to it as if your life depends on it! My cartridge was a little more into the wall and the clip slipped from my fingers causing it to fall behind the wall. The hurt was unreal. I had to make an extra trip to the store and spend another $6 for that sucker.

Hello. The solenoid may be stuck in the open position. You will press the manual flush button 3 times. If it does not flush, replace the solenoid. Since the batteries have been replaced, please make sure the battery pack has been unplugged for at least 30 seconds to reset. Wish I watched this before reading the instructions... it wasn't very clear there is a notch to indicate whether the valve was on or off. I almost dumped several gallons of water through my subfloor when I turned the water back on not realizing it was upside down.

Based on your description, the handle is not installed properly; in the "OFF" position, the tip of the lever handle should be pointing down to the drain/floor or in the 6:00 position. From the "OFF" position, the handle should rotate counterclockwise with the 12:00 position being warm or a mix of hot and cold and the 9:00 position being full hot. Yes this is a bad valve design. Not only does it fall apart in the box and during assembly leaving you hopefully in its reassebly....it cannot be rotated 180 degrees to correct the cold/hot pipes being crossed. Moen has taken a simple design and made it difficult and limiting. As an installer I will steer my customers in a different direction rather than deal with this headache ever again.

I also faced the problem where my old cartridge didn't come out. I was worried about damaging everything and so just left it. Having said that, I only later realized that the new cartridge came with a small plastic nut that fit around the old cartridge. It said to use that nut to rotate the old cartridge by a quarter or half turn (I don't recall which) to break it loose. I wish I had read those instructions first, maybe I could have gotten it to work. Or just but the cartridge puller from Moen.

Ive changed the part exactly like what was shown and told. After everything was done, water starts dripping and loud rumble when turning to hot water. Is it a faulty piece??

If you are changing the cartridge for tub/shower where the water flows down, the cartridge should be upside down to what it’s shown in this video.

I see the last comment is from 2 years ago, but I hope this gets somewhere. Our identical faucet started spinning from the counter and now when trying to tighten the nut underneath the counter-top, the orange pipe is not screwed into the top of the faucet anymore. Doesn't seem to grab any threads either.

Im renting a home and replaced my old keaky faucet with this. The notch on the cartride need to be down on mine or else off meant on. Don't know if I had a defective cartridge or if the builders of the home screwed something up, but it works like it's supposed to now.

Hello @tohrazul. You are correct! As shown in the video, the notched side of the cartridge stem is facing the ceiling. This allows you to easily install the handle with the set screw opening facing the ceiling. After installing the handle and before turning the water back on to the shower the handle and the notched side of the stem are rotated to be facing down towards the drain. One commenter mentioned grasping onto the old unit and twisting side to side while removing. I was able to do this with a pair of lineman’s pliers and it greatly reduced the stress on the plumbing. Thanks @PantherBlitz !

Hello @danaboehler2719. The Moen 1222/1222B Posi-Temp Replacement cartridge comes with a twist tool that is used to help break the seal. After removing the cartridge retainer clip, you place the twist tool onto the stem of the installed cartridge, grasp the twist tool with your pliers and twist. This is a great video. I'm going on Amazon to order the cartridge and the #104421 removal tool. Not taking chances on ruining the valve body and having to pull out the whole shower stall to get replacement access. After these things are in a few years, that cartridge is welded in place with hard water deposits and no more lubricant is around it.

We replaced our old separate faucet and sprayer with a Moen Pullout Kitchen Faucet and couldn't be happier. We repurposed the sprayer hole for an garbage disposal air switch. I would suggest reading all of the instructions and/or watching this entire video before you begin. After several frustrating minutes of trying to tighten the mounting nut by hand, my helper handed me the "installation tool" and said, "Here, maybe this will help." 🤪

I just purchased same model in 2024 but water lines are no loner made out of braided stainless but the cheaper Nylon material which will not last as long as stainless. The brass nut to tighten down the faucet shown on this video was now a plastic nut which will fail or crack. Moen saved about 50 cents on this brass to plastic nut replacement. The knock off no-name brands from China still have a brass or medal nut to tighten down a pullout faucet so why did Moen change to plastic?. I did not trust the cheaper water lines or plastic nuts and could buy same quality no-name Faucet on eBay for about $50. Both are now same quality and build. I returned this $200 faucet to Lowes for a refund.
