He said that bigger sensor size means more sharpness, not true, sharpness has nothing to do with sensor size. Maybe it was just a slip of the tongue, but if he believes this, then he has no idea what he's talking about. Sharpness has more to do with the amount of pixels and the colors science,
if youre going to complain about the batteries perhaps the camera isnt for you. And you complained about the one issue for 11 minutes. If this is the cripple hammer than Canon came a long way.

I'm upgrading from an intel i9 MacBook Pro (I almost never take it with me anywhere, sits on my desk 99% of the time). Tossing up getting an M2 Pro Mac Mini, or wait for the new ones to come out, but the price for an M2 Pro is very reasonable at the moment. Worried that the new M4 Mac Minis will come with a new price too...
Unlike Mr. Blake, I've owned the R52 since release. I also have the R5. The Mark 2 blows it away in every respect. The .4 dynamic range difference is BS; you never notice that. It's what you expect: an upgrade of a 4 year old camera with new tech. An upgrade, not a completely different camera. Problems with the Mark 1 fixed. Use the camera and you will see.
I've been using my M3 Pro MBP 14 as both a travel device and a desktop replacement, and for my USB-A peripherals I have a simple powered hub with four C ports for 3 A ports. I'm seriously leaning toward picking up one the new M4 minis, and if I do I'm all set. Thanks for the informative video.
Agree. Should be able to use external charging and all video modes. Are other camera models/brands affected by the 6mth delay? Its very strange. Perhaps it's a strategy to move excess stock of R5? 😅
I’ve had my R5 II for 3 weeks now. Knocks socks for me from the R5 and balance is a lot better with a slightly larger grip. AF is phenomenal and much more accurate. I don’t do much video but will try with this camera as access to the function is much improved. I also have the R3 and this is also an awesome camera.
I was lucky to get the original R5 when it first came out and I don't regret that, but I'm not getting the mk2, instead i may buy another mk1 as spare for weddings because it just works, and the change in dial/switch placement when your busy would be annoying.
If anything, Canon's mistake was trying to keep the old batteries still working on the new camera instead of going all out and redesign the battery to a fresh and stronger version that won't need replacing the next two decades.
Thank you. Refreshing to see a non-biased review. The R5 II looks like it could be real good camera overall. As I already have an R5 and almost exclusively a stills shooter, I won't spend the $4300 for the upgrade for incremental improvements especially for videocentric needs. I've been a Canon user my entire life starting with the Canon EF film SLR (I know, I'm old). That said if Canon does not release a more photocentric camera with more resolution and better dynamic range, I will strongly consider Sony, especially if they upgrade their A7RV to an A7RVI which is rumored. Some say why not medium format? Too expensive with limited, very expensive lenses.
I wouldn’t rely on this video as a “review” because this person hasn’t used the camera and is basically editorializing other people’s reviews. It’s disingenuous for him to claim the improvements are incremental over the R5. I would compare specifications and features and decide for yourself. Depending on what you shoot, this could be an appropriate upgrade. The issue with the battery is true though-video features are indeed limited unless you’re using the new battery. Personally, I would try using it (or the competitors’ cameras) first before buying.
J'ai reçu mon R5 mk2 le 20 août et l'appareil est tout simplement incroyable. L'autofocus est bien meilleur que celui de mon ancien R5....le seul hic...les batteries LP-E6P ! Canon est incapable de fournir à la demande. J'ai une seule batterie pour mon nouveau batterie grip, pas très pratique. Dommage car Canon semble vouloir faire la même tactique que les montures RF afin de favoriser leurs ventes sauf que quand tu veux fsire ça assure toi de ne pas être en rupture de stock !
I ordered my R5II at the announcement and received a couple of weeks ago. Best camera I have owned and leaps and bounds ahead of the original R5. Spend over four grand on a camera that is far superior and complain about a couple hundred bucks for batteries? Go buy the original R5 and move on...

I sent mine back. I've got the receipt and the RMA from B&H. It's a good camera. It wasn't a $5K upgrade for me. If I was a videographer first, I probably would have kept it. The wobbles are better, but not gone. Overheating is better, but not gone - especially without the grip. Anyone who knew anything about cameras understood that the 16 stops of dynamic range they announced was video only, and only in CLOG2. For stills, the DR is right on par with the R5. Not better or worse, but we all hoped for at least a little improvement. This video is pretty accurate, even if the fanbois don't like to hear it.
I do not shoot video (generally) but have been very happy with my new R5 II for photography. I did order an additional battery as a pre-order but did not receive it yet. They are now telling me it will be Oct before it arrives. I recharge daily out of necessity and am really bummed about the actions that Canon continues to take with their New products. If I was not so heavily invested in Glass for this camera I would scrap the works. But where to go? I love the menu system and the Incredible EVF as well as the super fast AF. I am able to change the buttons to MY liking. Damn it Canon!! Smarten up and do the right thing!!
Apple is doing same things with their products to increase revenue. So I don’t care. I have r5m2 from 27.08 because of preorder but I have to wait for battery from Fnac Paris. Delay is only one thing I hate here.
Whether they came out with a whole new battery for the R5mkII, or just new use of contacts on the battery and a little more power, I'm not sure it matters. The old batteries weren't sufficient. I am sure 3rd parties will sort it out and come up with their own versions of it as well. I guess it's good that the old chargers seem to work ok. I ordered 3 extra batteries and got them with my R5II on the day they were released, along with the battery grip. I thought there might be some shortages so I preordered enough for two sets with the battery grip- guess I was right for once...
I got my R5 II for almost two weeks. On my first day shooting with it, a guy next to me told me that his friend was using it and it was very impressive. I responded that I didn't know how good the R5 II was since I just started using it. A few days later after using it, especially the pre-capture feature, I am sold. That feature alone is worth my money. I got shots I was never able to get. AF is also improved. Hit rate is higher than original R5. I wish I had money to get another R5 II. I wish you tried it first before you made this video. If you spend $4300, you might as well spend extra to get the new batteries. Money grab or not, you don't need to upgrade if the original R5 serves your need.
Canon is selling tons of this new camera. That will pull forward the whole range - in addition to the R1 effect, and the R1 will be even more impressive without being a full hybrid. Only the market’s voice matters. Canon is a formidable competitor and has been improving immensely over the past 4 years. It is madness to bet against Canon.
I just ordered my R5II 2 days ago and an extra battery last night and it already shipped. Smaller camera stores seem to have them left, bigger stores don't. Other cameras, and especially certain lenses still have huge delays. It's been a thing since 2020.
I think I got lucky, but I ordered mine on B&H about a week after the initial release (Aug 26 or so) and it happened to ship after a two day wait. I think they just got a shipment right after but thank god for that.
I own both mki and mkii. I’m dialoguing with Canon and sending them raw files on what I call splotchy or rough bokeh. I shoot wildlife usually with 100-500 with 1.4 ext. i shoot raw with auto-iso capped at 3200. I’m noticing consistent splotching bokeh, especially in bokeh transitions to other color bokeh. Not creamy smooth as mki. Also using latest version of DPP4 to develop raw files. I believe I’m also noticing my exposure capping out at 3200 iso sooner than same kit on mki. Any of your subs seeing this. Ty. Uploaded many raws straight out of cameras for mki and mkii yesterday. Waiting to hear from them.
All new cameras are awesome.. let’s just love the tech. All of them have some software bugs usually at release, but I do agree with some of the constraints canon put on this camera, like no view assist with false color, and still the histogram going away. I am glad they gave us a way to get 8k60 in the body without all of the trickery the r5c had to do to perform at its best.
I just wrote a similar comment.. it's just the people who don't have it that are complaining, and/ or trying to talk themselves out of spending $4,300.

If this is the huge cripple hammer then… the camera is a huge win! It’s great that they even let you use old batteries. A new camera could just require all new batteries and that’s ok.
I think you haven't read closely enough. The Mark II won't even power up with third party batteries, and a lot of people are reporting that their units won't even power up with some Canon branded batteries from their R5's. (I don't know, but I'm not calling them liars.) There are also functions that won't function unless you have a grip with two batteries installed. You're right, a new camera COULD just require all new batteries. And new camera buyers have a very real right to say that they don't like that "feature". A lot of people here seem to want to silence any viewpoint they don't agree with. Why are you so afraid of that?

I have the B&H receipt and RMA from sending mine back. And my R5 Mark i isn't second hand. What witty BS are you going to say to me, fanboi? The things he said in this video are accurate. You... not so much.
I pulled my pre order of the R5 Mark Il and purchased a R3 on clearance for $3799. $500 less than a new R5M2. I am happy and even third party batteries work!
Having bought the r5 II locally and also as a photographer and videographer…it’s a very compelling upgrade. Already used it on two jobs out in the heat of Texas shooting solely 120fps. And overheating was well-controlled meaning out there for 3-4 hours. I literally only had two bars appear in the thermal meter and as soon as I stopped recording, they went down to zero bars, and that was without the cooling grip. The flexibility it has to choose the compression rate and codec is amazing compared to the R5. But the real icing on the cake is having clog2. Apply a LUT from arri to it and the colors are amazing. But again it also depends on what you do if you’re just a portrait shooter then maybe it’s not so important but if you shoot sports a lot of events things that really makes a big difference then it might be worth it. But for me, it’s really slick now is that I can be 100% electronic shutter for photography .
The difference between me and you is that I actually own(ed) one, and I have the RMA from B&H from sending it back. I live in South Texas, and it without the grip it wasn't hard to get it to brick from heat. So you shot 3-4 hours, all at 120fps, in the Texas heat, without the grip, and only had 2 bars show? So you're unique among every colleague I know who has the camera already. If I didn't know you're an honest guy, I would swear you only know about the camera from reading reviews.
@@RockPolitics well let me clarify. I’m not recording continuously for three or four hours. And I also do have the battery grip but not the fan grip and outside I also kept the screen open back which also lets it cool a little bit better, further I don’t let it sit in direct sunlight. So you can believe what you want, but my experience was quite positive and it didn’t overheat on me for my use. I was getting a ton of broll (short clips) of kids running around in and out of direct sunlight using the 24 to 105 F2.8 and the 28 to 70 f/2. Now, if I was trying to record a show or something that ran continuously for a long period of time, I’m sure I would’ve had problems at the higher frame rates. The first shoot I was outside for about four hours and then the second shoot I was out from about 5 PM to 10 PM filming football and general festivities for back to school events and every time i pressed record it worked.
@@whiterock1865 That's the part that spooked me. I was out shooting stills, looking for varied settings and conditions, so I could assess the camera. I don't like to chill the cabin of the truck and then jump out into super warm, moist air. So I left the windows open as I moved from place to place. I put the camera on the seat turned on, which I don't usually do... but I did it this time. When I got to my next location, it was locked up from heat. As I said, I wasn't using the grip. I don't know if it was sitting just right to trap heat in a particular spot, or something similar. I wasn't expecting it when I picked the camera up, so I wasn't paying attention to things like that. But it overheated in a setting that I really don't think it should have. Maybe it was a fluke, but it's hard to discount what you experience for yourself. Now... I have several friends and colleagues who have the R5II and have been putting it through its paces pretty hard. Four of the five have had it overheat when shooting above 1080p. Honestly, it's not a deal-breaker. But with all the trouble the first R5 had, I would have expected it to be a thing of the past, not just to be "improved". The same goes for the wobbles. I am disappointed that they're not totally gone, but it is improved enough that it also wouldn't have been a deal-breaker. What I do get a little raw about is people claiming that this new model doesn't overheat, and that the wobbles are gone. I saw them both with my own eyes. Just for giggles - you know that the R5II has 4-channel sound, right? How do you take advantage of that? It looks like they used the same lousy preamp on the built-in jack, which was another disappointment. But the 4-channel sound appears like it will take another piece of equipment in the digital shoe, which is another big expense, and will make the kit bigger and bulkier. Then there's the requirement that you buy a new dummy battery kit. And issues with powering the camera from USB-C. I could go on, but that's enough. To get everything I expect, this is more like a $6K upgrade. I know it has some improvements, but for me it just wasn't a $5k ($6K) upgrade from the R5 Mark 1. But I respect the fact that people have different requirements.
