Excellent video. I wasn't aware of this even happening. running the steam train through the underground must have been interesting. Thanks for sharing. Back just before the Harbour Bridge official opening in 1932, I believe they ran test steam trains across the Harbour Bridge on both sides covering the then tram tracks and also the train tracks.
1:58 "restore the loop line in its entirety", that would be good if true. There will still be the missing link from Colo Vale to Braemar with Braemar to Mittagong Junction requiring an upgrade. Time for the State to stump up and do the job in its entirety, use some of the Metro money and give the country something. NSW is not Sydney.
I must assume that as there was no smoke coming out of the stack when going through the underground that the diesel engine at the rear was doing all the work. That would explain the train having to stop as it came out of the tunnel to switch from diesel to steam

Every time I see one of your videos it makes me happy and sad at the same time. Glad to see all the work happening and cannot wait to get out there and see it for myself but sad Victoria cannot follow suit unfact it is almost trying to do the opposite it feels at times.
I first saw a 60 class garratt at Thirlmere over 50 years ago and I was just in awe of it. I never thought I would see one restored and running. I took my 80 yr old father to Thirlmere to see it when it first started running again in 2011. I blame him for my steam fascination. Sad to hear about the steam association in the ACT going under, but great news to see it is now permanently housed at Thirlmere. It must be time for another long drive.
7:56 I was the last Apprentice Trimmer to Trim the 2 seats in the cab, (I had to pause it to see if they were the same seats, they are lol). Funny story with those seats!, good memories
Bless you 3801 and all that care for you. I lived in Blackheath NSW for 27 years and it was always a marvelous treat to see you come roaring through our village. I have now retired to the Tasmanian NW Coast and truely miss the Emu Plains railway folk
