Thank you very much for this review! I also thank you for the heads-up on the issues that may need attention on arrival. I am looking for a Rolex hommage right now and I am torn between PD's offerings (the models I have shortlisted are all automatic with the venerable Seiko NH35 family) though a little pricier. I have this watch too on my list which will save me about 15% of the initial outlay in comparison. Will you please advise which is the better option? Thank you for your kind guidance.
I just bought another one of these, this time in blue. The case changed slightly around the crown guards. The bracelet is much better. The only thing that went the wrong way is the lume application on the hands. My first SD1970 is after several years much brighter and more even. It's as bright as the indicies on the new one. But as bang for the buck, these are the best. And yes, you can dive without any problem with these watches.
Honestly, the homage MoonSwatch is the one that forced me to reconsider things... So long as the homage pays homage to the original price with out being full pot clones regarding trademarks/copywrite stuff, pays homage to the watches custodian (where I feel Swatch truely failed on), I'm fine with homages.
I just purchased this watch and I have to say I'm really liking it so far. The small negative I see so far is the strap. It feels weird. I had to get used to the feel of it, if that makes any sense at all. Other than that, I'm satisfied with my purchase.
I love, love, love Citizen and the Eco-Drive movement. Bulletproof and great VFM. However, I wish they made a smaller version of this watch more closer to a 40/41mm diameter. The 43/44mm case does indeed wear smaller than the dimensions suggest but it is still a big watch.
Bought this watch brand new from a UK seller 2 weeks ago for £44.00. I cannot be happier with the price and the quality and so many straps fit it, mine is currently on a dark brown leather strap which really suits it. Only negatives are hands are a bit difficult to see due to no AR on crystal.
Thanks for opening the back and letting us see the movement to see what it looks like I was wondering if it’s a real NH35 or a cheap copy, but looks ok, thanks I just bought one but haven’t got it yet,
How come some 175s have a round number spot where some are square? Mine is like this videoed but I keep reading that Singapore 175 should have square markers?
Mine should be here today. I considered hemdahller, Rdunae, Tandorio, and most everything that looks like a Willard. The Rdunae is closer to what the original was and it appears to be the most finely finished one under macro, which I put all my new watches through. But I'll only look at it that closely once if there are flaws and imperfections I'll gamble on it. Recently I got their hulk green/black sub homage and I see no issues anywhere at all. That's why I want to give this model a try. We are at least in version two of his piece.. I know the quality will be there as they have had time to perfect the total package. I'm binge watching apocalypse now just to get ready for it's arrival.😊
Great Review and totally agree with everything except bezel play. I have purchased one, adjusted it in every way and even inspected it under my magnifying lamp and this watch is faultless. I must be lucky as my bezel lines up at the 12 and no bezel play or wobble. Very happy with mine. Feels like a $1000 Seiko turtle to wear. I own other JE Edition Seikos to compare and am very impressed!
Great review - would have liked to have seen some discussion about setting the time and date and how that worked. I have the green and yellow and love wearing it.
Thanks for the review. I just got the SSK005 and I am already planning my next purchase. I’ve always love the Samurai. I wish the white dial came with a bracelet. Strap code for make a nice bracelet for the Samurai.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that this watch is pretty much useless as a chronograph, since the small minute dial is divided only in intervals of 5 minutes. The small second hand dial is marked the same way. The small dial on the right has similar problems (marked in 2 hour intervals) and is mainly useful for balancing the other small dials to make a pleasing dial layout. The markings on all of those dials are grey on reflective black and impossible to read without a magnifying glass. So, in summary, it's a pretty watch, but you had better have your phone or a $10 Casio along if you want to measure lap times.
I love Pagani Design. I don't have this one but it is on my radar. I have the PD-1690 (Oyster Perpetual homage) modded with Mercedes hands. I love this watch, and the modded hands work very well with the lume on the dial. I have never had trouble reading this watch at night, and I don't charge it beyond wearing it throughout the day. I have 5 Pagani Design watches and I may add this one to give me a more formal looking piece.
Great review. Very practical perspective. I feel sometimes these RU-vid reviews tend to be very repetitive, adopting the same talking points and I feel like you have given us common Sense advice. The part where you compare the polishing between this one and the NATO is very useful indeed.
Absolutely Not. It's Still Available..just looked it up on Website. Also cones in Hand Wind which is the One I would Only get as I'm sick of Automatics!
I had a Hamilton Jazzmaster blue roman dial recently, and, afetr seeing this video, I am now going to oder this broadway red dial one as the red colour is the only missing color to my colection. Ashford and hamilton has never dissapoited me. Superb video.
And I just bought it! It’s exactly what I need to refurb my third one of these great watches. I had bought it for parts but now will have a pretty pristine one. This was my first “serious” watch.
Just got it for U$ 46.00! Now it's just endure the waiting. Can not go wrong at such price! EDIT: It arrived and the value for money is just WOW! U$46.00 is almost unbelievable.
@hammondwatch2808 I have a question unrelated to this review. You mentioned your wrist size is 7.5 inch to 7.75 inch. This exactly the same as my wrist size. I was wondering if you have a minimum case size that works on your wrist. For me anything below 40mm looks too small on my wrist eg 38mm looks too small and 36mm looks so small it looks like a toy from a Christmas cracker. Wondering if its the same for your or is it just me?
