Keep posting daily videos with the sportster “potential buyer “ & I like what I’m seeing and hearing so far … I wasn’t too fond of the stock muffler sound
Nice I would go for Akra full Ti headers, Ohlins STX46 rear and NIX fork inserts, Kineo (not Option 719) wheels (6" rear), Gilles rear sets and if you have any money left, Magura bars & HC3 master cylinders
I wrapped over the whole thing. It looks pretty clean even without removing the heat shield. My recommendation is to use LOTS of plastic zip ties while putting it on and then a few strategic steel ones at the end.
Unless you do a tune you won’t really see too much of a performance improvement. Ask for fuel economy… with the way I ride it’s not really a concern, but I haven’t noticed anything. I’ve sold the bike unfortunately so I won’t be able to do a video with a tuner. I’ll be clear it’s not because of the bike in any way. I’m just addicted to buying new bikes ;).
What I should have done is ordered a new jst connector and wired everything up together so it could plug into the factory harness. At the time I couldn’t find the connector but now I know where to get them. Posi tap might have worked but the wires are very thin. I think the best way to do it is what I mentioned above.
The air snorkle has to go. 2 choices Unit garage or the KRT I believe is the name. All pricey for what you get but it really changes the appearance and also the side covers.
Hmm - I wonder who the actual manufacturer is. They're both German so I am not sure. I can tell you that Wunderlich is pretty nice to deal with in USA/Canada.
@@DrFearCo - I went with Wunderlich because they had yellow :) Have not arrived yet but excited to install them. Have the 40th so also ordered the rear fender kit, rear rack and solo seat all from Wunderlich.
What issues have you had to deal with at the service department? As in... what did you need to get work on? I just got a Sportster S knowing people have had various issues 'no start' related to the battery or connectors, key fob drain issues, so forth. I knew what I was getting into possible haha, but curious what you experience has been on your bike. Thanks! =)
Hey! These lights are way better! I should get the same. Also been thinking about getting the same exhaust for my new Sportster S. Worried about reliability with this thing but fingers crossed. It was just too cool looking and such good cruiser performance to not go for it. It is on warrently but I just would rather not deal with the bike going at the dealership half the time. I keep reading about people having 'can't start' issues and a few other things. Just looking for more perspectives. Have you had any issues like that?
I used to have occasional check engine lights on startup (probably because of my aftermarket exhaust and cat delete). BUT, recently Harley released a new software update and for most of this summer I have had zero issues. On top of that, the bike never failed to start as shown in earlier videos and never ran weird. I would just rev low for the first 2 seconds or so of a cold start. But again, those issues went away after the last major software update. Since I bought it, it was at the dealer 4 times. Once for first service, once for a dripping coolant line, once for this software update, and once for another software gremlin where the bike was displaying a “vin error” which the dealer had a fix for. I’ve put about 5000KM on the bike. So not a huge amount. I haven’t made a video about this yet, but I just sold the bike due to issues with my low back after having back surgery. The clamshell riding position rolled my low back a little too much for comfort and I wanted something a little more ergonomic. But I do still have a huge emotional attachment to the sportster. If you want to buy the Kodlin front turn signals from me I can make you a bit of a deal.
@@DrFearCo Hey man! Thanks for the really detailed response! Glad the software update seemed to fix things as it has for many people. I'm hoping I just don't run into much of anything beyond routine stuff. Too bad you had to sell the bike because of the back surgery! I've had some back issues myself close to my shoulder blades that took months to recover but fortunately never had to get surgery. I'm sure you will love whatever the next bike is! No turn signals for me at this time (same for the exhaust I just have that on my future hopes and dreams shopping list) I live in fear I will wake up to my wife chopping my balls off for daring to even buy the bike itself! So mods will be slow and steady. Haha! She is actually really great but this bike caused a bit on tension. But we will get over it! Thanks for the response!
They are good mirrors, but they come loose. My friend lost his and mine fell off on the highway. I caught it. I haven’t had many issues since I added a bit of loctite to it. It’s a nice bike and I am happy with it.
Hi there, what are the brand of the rear and front turn signals you've got installed on the bike? Do you those turn signal related error codes after putting them on? Thank you.
They are Kodlin USA. No the codes are not related. Harley pushed out a big update recently and the bike has been perfect since then. I haven’t seen a code since.
I'm really tryin hard to love these new sportsers but just can't do it yet. I love the specs on this bike, love the look but the sound is a huge miss for me. Doesn't sound mean or powerful, no matter what you do. Your bike isn't loud at all IMO and I think your cam captured the sound pretty well. Its a slick lookin rig though and could probably leave my XR1200 in the dust but my hopped up evo sounds insane at any rpm. Now if Harley makes a XR1250 with the pan am's 150 hp engine, i might not care about the sound lol
Yeah… it sounds a bit like an L twin Ducati maybe? It definitely doesn’t sound like a Harley and that’s probably the worst part for a lot of people. I think the mechanical chatter goes away a bit when you remove the exhaust baffle (like I did in my recent video) but it’s still not the same. I will tell you that this pulls harder than a pan am. 150HP would probably mean just a higher top speed.
@@DrFearCo I check out every exhaust vid i can find on the new sportys but so far, nothin even close to acceptable. shame they are a very sharp lookin bike with lots of performance.
Every angle on this train wreck of a “Harley Davidson” is fugly but one (looking from right side rear to front)- this angle looks pretty cool. Then you see the radiator sitting 3 feet out in front of the engine and then you see the wimpy, 1970’s single brake rotor and the aforementioned hideous left side along with the gaudy rear swingarm mounted taillight and plate holder and realize you just paid $20K for an ugly sportster (a model synonymous with a ladies bike) and hope you can get at least half of your payoff on a trade. I hear the engine is great though even though it sounds like a JD mower.
This bike is faster and more fun than any other bike Harley has ever sold. You’re in the <1% that thinks this bike is ugly. Every time I take it out I get stopped by people commenting on how beautiful it is. Second, your ladies bike comment reeks of small dick energy. Have a nice day!
This comment is way too negative for no good reason. This bike has had amazing reviews, people love the looks, even sports bikes guys are like 'what the hell, this is amazing! How does this thing exist?'. It is like a Muscle Cruiser, brute cruiser looks and sports performance jammed together. It looks modern and futuristic at the same time. Aftermarket exhausts exist for a reason, people get them on traditional bikes anyway, but new regulations forces manufacturers to put on the OEM style exhaust. Even with that, I don't care, HD is finally modernizing their bikes get away from stagnant decades of vbikes the looked and performed like they were from the 1950s.
Check out an Indian FTR for an ugly radiator. it happens. I have never seen a video where the owner says "i wish it had dual rotors". Sure the tail light mount is the 1st thing to go, but what sportster owner never mod'd their ride? I'll mark you down as a "maybe" !
I misspoke when saying the bike might be running lean. I meant rich. Also, I took it out after this video and it is extremely loud. I will probably put the baffle back in.
@@DrFearCo pulled it out tonight, i love it. Mostly i like that cars have more chance of hearing me but in general it does sound a hell of a lot meaner. I will stick with it for a few rides and see how i go.
thanks for your video! appreciate it! I have the same bike and color, i added the tinted windshield fairing and heated grips. Did you take your bike to your Harley shop for your first oil change? my Harley shops wants $575 for its 1 st oil change! Wow! suggestions?
First oil change is all fluids and full inspection. A Harley’s first service is always expensive to check that the break in went well and if it needs adjustments anywhere.
Yeah i have a DP on a blue 23 sporster s but i really want to get out and test ride a ducati hypermotard rve or the top model😅 see if i like it more any thoughts ?
@@DrFearCo Great! My plan is cartridges fork high version and Blackline rear suspension high version. But first I need to pick up a motorcycle, at the end of March :)
@@Andrea_619 I probably wont do the rear suspension this year. Theres still a possibility but I keep looking at other bikes I want to buy lol. I kind of want a bagger.
Hi. Looks great. I have the TBR fender eliminator. My question is that when you turn the bike off does or did the red LEDs on the rear stay alit for a short period after the bike is off then turn off? Also I am having issues since a service with headlight now not working. The Daylight light works but I have no highbeam or lowbeam at night. Worked fine for 6mths after Insta the tailtidy so that wouldn’t be the issue. The bar across the middle of the light is illuminated but I don’t know if that bar is supposed to change brightness or there are other LEDs internally that may have blown.
Sorry I missed this comment. Yes, the tail light stays on for a bit before turning off. Second, the headlight issue sounds like its unrelated. I’d take it to Harley for warranty service. Assuming you wired in the fender eliminator using the connection for the old tail light.
