@@skymantechnology8329 unfortunately the reviews I read said stay away from the millineum brand . I was looking at the king performance. I'm not rated . been playing chess since 73 lol.. my first computer was ' Boris ' and I think it ran like 300 dollars in 1977 .
What folks may love to know is: What is the cost of this version? [Is there a super discount for poor old pensioners like me who would love one of these...but don't have the money at present] . Also, what is its playing strength [i.e. its ELO?], and what version of Stockfish or similar program does it use? At the time of this comment, we're up to version 17, I believe!
@mikestubbs1708 currently I believe you can get the board for around $350 US. Not sure about the discount! Lol. It is Stockfish 9 to the best of my knowledge, which has never been an issue for me since the highest estimated ELO is 3000. I personally don't need Stockfish 17. Stockfish 9 is extremely strong and should not be underestimated just because newer versions of Stockfish are released. I stopped chasing the carrots and am completely content.
Quite the wholesome review. I ended up going with the Chessnut Air a year ago. It's got some gizmos and gadgets and whatnot but I really wish I would have gone with the centaur based only on not needing to use another device to play. I hope they end up upgrading this model some day.
did this board make you play better over time? Especially the "challenge" mode, where its supposed to be slightly better than the player, and thus pushing you... or is it just for fun to play but you havent noticed any improvements in your games after all those games on this machine? thx
Yes, it has improved my game. The more I lost, the more I learned. It will adjust to your level of play and make you think more about tactics, strategy, etc. It sure feels good when defeat it! Hope this helps.

It is 2024 and I just ordered one myself 😊 What decided me to go for this board is the ease of use, e-ink display, large board, battery, etc. But especially the fact that you just can do another move than the computer is telling you to do. It just accepts your alternative move. Great for training purposes. Even this board is “already” 4 years or so old, I did not find any other alternative for this board and I just do not want to be dependent of smartphones and apps that lots of new boards require. I think and hope I will love this board.

Very happy to see this recommendation by someone who doesn't normally do chess videos. I also have this one and I agree with your review. I also agree with not using the hints. I think it's better to evaluate your mistakes and learn that way. Otherwise, it becames a soulless and boring exercise in memorization rather than engaging creativity.

I know this thread is 2 years old, but I'll be getting the foil dots tomorrow. Do they stick directly over the felt, or do I need to removed the felt first? From what I can make out in the video, the felt stays on. Just wanting to make sure.
@@skymantechnology8329 Thank you very much. Glad to get a reply so quickly from the man himself. When my foil comes in tomorrow (the same ones you used) I'll convert them. I'll be using the plastic and weighted Bobby Fischer Ultimate chess pieces. Just got them today.
To be honest I haven't checked in some time. However, I would imagine there are better pieces available but not sure about the price. Sorry I couldn't be much assistance.
okay ok, if you put that sticker the DGT recognizes the pieces but only if they are in the correct order right?. In other words, if you put the pieces on the board wrong, the DGT recognizes them as if they were right? for example the rooks put the bishops and the DGT does not find out

I personally have not been able to find info out about the capabilities of analysis, computer record, and replay with computer recommendations for having made better moves, to have played the last game better. Whew, that's a lot to cover! Lol I guess the first thing I can say is I'm no expert on the engine built into this board. The best I can tell you is that the computer adjusts its playing style according to your playing style. I have found it to be quite challenging and fun to play. From my experience, this is the best DGT board made in terms of simplicity. I had 2 other "advanced" boards and had nothing but problems with it. Paul at chesshouse.com had to get tired of hearing from me, but wasn't impressed with those ridiculously priced boards. If you're looking for something more challenging and give you access to online playing, I also purchased the Millenium Kings Exclusive, yes more expensive but I really love it! Hope that helps.
Good video. I’ve heard even the friendly level on this can be downright brutal. I’d be this in a heartbeat if I knew i could enjoy it on friendly and work my way up. What’s your opinion? I’m just an average joe, I like the game, but no formal “training” or club level experience. Thanks
Hi, in my opinion it is a great board for anybody. It will play you on Friendly mode and hopefully the AI will play according to how well you play. It's very intuitive!
I have this monotone colored chess game! It's fun! But DGT should come out a more aesthetically color for the board and pieces! Like brown and Rosewood!
24 pieces of 5 Euro cent and some superglue did the trick also, should work with quarters or dimes in the US as well. Try putting down all 24 coins on the spots where the chess pieces go before playing, and if all is well the Centaur should recognize them. Try it out before you start to apply glue to your favorite chess pieces and stick dimes to their bottoms. Really enjoy the Centaur, won on my first play-through, but did give me a run for my money, and did not give up till the end. Great python programming at work.
