I am a Nova Scotia based Motorcycle Adventurer. A father and retired motorcycle cop who happens to be a super nice guy. I've been a rider for over 24 years. I have travelled the globe for fun and work, revealing a passion for hidden history and unusual places in ordinary spaces you might not find on tourist maps. We go off the beaten path down that road you've passed 1000 times, but never been. I want to touch history.
Expect tips and tricks and grounded conversation from inside the helmet as I work through life's problems and hopefully we can help each other discover the joy of adventures nearby.
I already had this as a spot to visit on my way home from this year's trip. Not a lot of info online about it but it's good to know that it is where I thought it was. The airframe of the de Havilland Mosquito was mostly made out of wood which is why there wouldn't be a whole lot left after such an impact and 80 years.
Nice to see that it’s relatively easy to get to. Previous videos I have watched about this castle were either the ATV or Overlanding crowd and they must have gone in from a different direction. I’ll have to add it to my list of places to visit. Cheers.
It is. You have to be prepared for the base of the hill it's not big bike friendly or novice friendly. It was a pin it and hope! The hill is steep and crowded
Thought I saw you the other day in Oxford at the skate park. Was a bike like yours with another bike with yellow trim. Was going to turn around and see if it was you. Good luck on your trips man.
The Municipality has a website called explore Cumberland that has details on where to go to see the village and the 3 sisters. It’s under the hiking section
I have been on that trail with the SxS many times before, always made for an easy outing with picnic at the bridge with the family. We would go on the bridge but you would have to watch for the broken boards. Too bad it isn't maintained somehow.
I had to change the name because the youtube algorithm was lumping me in with changing cables. So I switched to, " Adventures Nearby" Easier to say. Easier to remember and much easier to find.
Man I feel like I've seen this bike around. I think I saw an identical pair of them a few times in the past with those cases. That would be around the Springhill area.
So lucky for me one of my kids wasn't feeling well at school today so I had to pick him up and come home with him. That gave me this chance to check out your videos. I really dig the concept man. You're making me want a dirt bike or a little street and trail pretty bad haha. I figure you must be pretty close by from the areas you're going to so I will suggest somewhere maybe you haven't heard of yet. There is an abandoned settlement somewhere between Springhill and Parrsboro called Canning Mountain. I've heard of people going there and that there are foundations and possibly grave markers where a church stood. Maybe worth a look man. Also the Castle in Wentworth is supposed to be pretty cool. I've never been to either myself so can't say for sure. Happy trails man!
This is near our beach so I went looking for it last summer on an early Morning Drift. I didn't see it but the story behind it is pretty neat. Thanks for sharing.
Yes man, Advocate Harbor runs at a totally different pace eh. It is beautiful for sure. I still have family in Apple River. I know people that have done the hike in to Eatonville but I haven't done it myself. I'm hoping to get there soon. I just recently learned the 3 Sisters are a piece of West Africa that separated from Pangea and ended up here.
That is one fort that I've never heard of. Been to Fort.B many times. The old ferry terminal man. It would be cool to explore that. I have a few vague memories of being there waiting for the boat on our annual camping trip to the island in the 80's and early 90's.
Hi Jay, I’m Steve, so growing up I bumped around this area in Chignecto in the 90’s fishing and bird hunting. I lived in the neighbouring community of Nappan. Glad to see you can still get in there as I’ve been thinking about taking my kids in for a look. Nice to see there’s still trout in the fishing hole too. I’m pretty sure the reference to 1992 would be when the power plant in Maccan stopped operating. It was on Harrison lake. I’ve seen old pictures of the community around the Chignecto mine and the Edison power plant. There were many houses on the hillside above the brook. Thanks for sharing.
How much air pressure are you running in the tires? I put the nuetech 'tubless' system on my bike.. Not DOT approved, but you can ridiculously low air pressure for amazing off road traction with no pinch flats. The low air pressure allows the tire to eat the small chop on the trail that the suspension can't keep up with.
Michelin anakee wild calls for 36psi rear 32 front . I'm dropping that after a few heat cycles . Not drastically but a little. If I plan to do a long single track or sand I'll half it. The radial carcass is cause. First hand from installing them, these tires were like mounting concrete unlike a dirtbike tire. Or the bias ply I took off it
My comments to you are coming from respect as I have loved exploring all my life. That being said, a "million visitors per year" would make their lives a living hell. And think of the security issues, both with their home and their beautiful horses as well as in$urance. Please do the honorable thing and remove this video or edit it to tell people to view it ONLY from the road. I see that you mean well and want to share something truly awesome but is it worth it to possibly ruin my friends' privacy for a few clicks? Theirs is a working horse farm and they give riding lessons to special needs children as well. Having to deal with hordes of visitors would interrupt and impact their livelihood. I went to England in 1969 and was able to touch the stones of Stonehenge, when my husband and I visited 40 years later it was enclosed by fencing and you could not go near them. They were fenced due to idiot tourists chipping away "souvenirs " and because of the negative environmental impact.
The video has been peer reviewed by the family and approved. Your comment is not respectful and goes against the wishes of the owners, who gave me permission to publish this video on THEIR property. Perhaps you can understand better that the owners effort to inspire the imaginations of the world, have left you with little inspiration and respect for their actual wishes. I wish you a more positive path and maybe you should go spend some time in the circle to see what finds you for peace and inspiration.
