Живу у моря в России и не имею права так же заниматься промыслом у нас это.считаеться браконьерством почему российские рыбаки не родились на Аляске это какой-то рок судьбы ,желаю всем хорошего улова!
Hey! This is awesome! You are such a badass, on the backdeck doing it all! I've been fishing in Bristol Bay for years and my crewmate and I make a zine of women fisherman's stories and art called Bristol Baybes, we'd love it if you wanted to submit a creative work for it!
@@jessicakitchens8864 thank you! I’m not in a place atm to check and see, but is there some way to DM you here, or is there another way I should reach out with questions?
Jess -- this is a WONDERFUL documentation of "what it's like". I've just finished my 3rd season working as a 4th (and free help!) deckhand for my son, Capt. Dan. It's hard on an "old man", but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I love the way you got footage of throwing the buoy, turning on hydros, chunking the grappling hook, connecting the pelican, swapping ends, "running the net", etc. I may have even seen a Rotation going on there -- not sure, tho'. I've never documented the processes so well and this film will really help me explain to friends and fam what the whole thing is like.....especially the shit bucket!!! Looks like Bubba fished for Trident. I was hoping to see footage of a tender I was familiar with, but my son fishes for Icicle (now OBI). Thank you again!
How'd you get into something like this? I've been interested in headed out to AK for a salmon season, but I don't know how to find a job other than walking up and down the docks asking captains (or working at a cannery for a full season beforehand).
That's how a lot of people find this job! I however was trekking in South Africa and a captain observed that I was a tough cookie with a good attitude and he offered me a gig!
James, sir....you have that exactly backwards!! The boats are paid a bonus above the base price for bled, iced, and floating sockeye. I've helped my son (he's the Captain, I work for free) for 3 seasons in the Nush -- this is straight up intel!!
Way to go, Jess! My grandson is going out next week (June 2021). I really hope he can be as tough as You! You are REALLY SOMETHING! Love your video. By the way...my grandsons name is Jess...
This is without a doubt the best video of Bristol Bay I have seen. LMAO the content was brilliant and funny. After fishing in Alaska my whole life this girl shows the way on how to be a good deck hand.
Learn the basic boat knots! Bowline. ( pronounced bo-lin) Square Knot (for temporarily joining two ropes together) Clove Hitch Cleat Hitch And try on your gear before you buy it - don't buy second hand!
Awesome Job and that I fish in ugashik and Dillingham for 35 years my first year in ugashik was 1970 and south coast of Oregon 2 or 3 years before that fishing salmon and tuna
