This channel will feature a variety of videos on nature photography including the technical, creative, fieldcraft, and post-processing elements. As an official OM System Ambassador (learnandsupport.getolympus.com/pro-stories-lee-hoy), I will also feature videos on their equipment. On occasion, you might find videos on international and domestic destinations where I lead photography workshops for Wildside Nature Tours and Precision Camera & Video in Austin, Texas.

Excellent video thanks, I have been making all the mistakes you mentioned so keen to listen and learn from your videos. I am guilty of watching reviews on kit but get some value on understanding the kit. I always been a budget photographer so not had bells a whistles, I have just purchased OM-5 kit mainly to reduce weight and move into mirrorless. I work full time time and live in NE England but blessed with beautiful countryside and do best to practice landscape and wildlife. Always had respect for any living animal or creatures. I look forward to following your advice Thanks Barry

Lee, what you have said resonates strongly with me, I have subscribed and am looking forward to this journey. I'm just getting back into photography. I've invested in a silver OM-5, a logical choice for a long-time OM-1 film camera user! As a bonus I can use my vintage OM glass with the new camera, using a simple adapter. It feels like an old friend already. Exciting times! Simon d'Entremont is to a large extent responsible for my renewed passion for photography.

Real words of wisdom from a wise man said from the heart with admirable humility Lee, one of your subscribers comented that what you say is common sense but that only applies if you have the knowledge and skill set to use it in the first place, many a time I have learned a new skill and then realised with the right thought process it is common sense. Really enjoy your vlogs Lee and at the age of 77years I still enjoy learning new skills. Looking forward to your next video. Albert from North Wales UK.

My question would be how you protect your impact-sensitive photo gear in that context - have you found any packing cubes that have padding for gear protection? Very exhaustive (and potentially exhausting 😅). Just out of curiosity, how many bags would you say you pack for an average workshop? Does that get pretty expensive when you’re flying?
@leehoyphotography
@leehoyphotography 5 дней назад
My minimum traveling for photography is like a trip with extreme weight limits where a puddle jumper airplane is involved like in Africa or the Oso Peninsula of Costa Rica. There I will use on bag for clothes, toiletries and an F-Stop backpack of varying size for camera gear and laptop. My maximum is like when I am wearing western wear (normal clothes) and photography clothes like for Grand Teton in winter where I will have two check in bags, ThinkTank Roller Airport II, and my ThinkTank laptop bag. That is if I happen to fly first class. I always check flight prices and don't just go the absolute cheapest because you often spend more after paying for luggage!

Hi Lee, really beautiful and informative this video you made. lot of tips which I will use for these beautiful creatures. But is it correct to assume that using the flash makes the eyes reflect with strange colors? for instance the df shown around 10'30. And if so, is there a way to improve this (no fixing, I remember from another of your videos😁) in post proces? hope you"ll find the time to answer this one. greetings Martin

I use C4 as a "restore" mode. What I mean by that is that I normally set my camera up when it is not in a custom mode with aperture priority, f8, iso200 and a bunch of menu settings that I have changed from the default (for example I customize the buttons). I use C1-C3 for special circumstances like wildlife, focus stacking, and ND computational shooting. But no matter what mode I go into or what other changes I may make during a day of shooting, I know I can always go to C4 to restore all settings to the way I generally want them, then go to A, and my camera is back to how I like it for "normal" shooting (I shoot primarily landscapes). This practice gives me only 3 custom modes for special situations, with the 4th mode used to return to "normal".

Hi Lee, I like your no nonsense approach to wildlife photography, you don´t suffer fools. I am having trouble with CAF with bird detect using BBF on the OM1, if I keep the AF-ON depressed the camera "hunts". I realise it´s almost certainly user error, would it be possible to go through not just settings, like CAF sensitivity, focus area, CAF or CAF+TR etc. for tack sharp images but any tips on camera controls as well. Keep up the informative tutorials, please don´t follow the trend to make 2 hour videos of live chat.
