This is so fascinating. Here in Alaska, the farrier takes classes to care for all animals with hooves. And they also study to be able to do these types of surgeries. (The vets are over 800 mi away and have to be flown in, but only in good weather.)

Hi I'm a vet student from El Salvador. Right now I'm prepparting for my evaluation test on Bovine and Equine surgery. I just want to say thank you so much Dr. cause I found this video really helpful. Due to covid, there are some issues with the university, mostly budget related, what has been causing a shortage on field practices and many other activities. So this material has been really helpful on learning matter, cause it's really difficult to understand the procedures without practices. It has been hard with all this limitations causing deficiency on our professional formation, but here we are trying to overcome all of it. Thank u so much, I believe that the share of knowledge and expertise has to be recognized and thanked. Greetings to the beautiful UK.

If the semen was delivered at mid cervix because of difficulty to through the body uterus, how many percentage that the cow might be pregnant?
@mendipvets
@mendipvets Год назад
Thank you Jimbo, this is not an ideal situation. So, the simple answer is, if there are genuine difficulties to go completely through the cervix and were to leave the semen mid-cervix, the percentage of pregnancies will be higher than not inserting it at all.

Do you ever leave part of the petal bone? Or do you always remove the whole thing? Is there imaging of the bone beforehand?
@mendipvets
@mendipvets Год назад
Thank you for your comment, the pedal bone is always removed.

@@mendipvets thanks. The reason I ask is because I have a couple friends who run small dairies and I’ve seen a few cases of toe necrosis, but they seem to just manage them with blocks and a few topical agents (though I don’t know what they use exactly). I’ve even seen them pull broken pieces of the pedal bone out. When is amputation recommended? When the pain is too severe and can no longer be managed?
@mendipvets
@mendipvets Год назад
@@I_SuperHiro_I Do bear in mind, that in the UK you cannot carry out this procedure, unless you are a vet. The pain is too severe and unmanageable, before the toe necrosis is established.

@@mendipvets I’m in the USA, but thanks for the info! I know they wouldn’t try intervening without a vet.
