It depends on the pressure. If it’s natural I perform well. If it’s artificially caused by morons who want to test me, I will exhaust myself not doing what they expect me to. All they achieve is me harbouring sadistic fantasies.

I like that this movie shows Danny’s struggle with alcoholism and relays that’s heavily what it’s about like the book. The Shining is an amazing movie but I feel it relied more heavily on the supernatural aspects of the novel and didn’t delve as much into Jack’s trouble with alcoholism, whereas I think that is the main theme of the book overall

I’ve tried almost every drug possible. Nothing, absolutely nothing made my problems or issues go away. So I gave up each one knowing there’s only your will to survive and nothing can make you better.. But yourself. If you need God or Jesus that’s great. I do everything alone….
The guy portraying Jack in Doctor Sleep did a decent job, though they probably could have made the eyebrows thinner, and probably make him sound more like Jack Nicholson and less like Crispin Glover.
This is horrible to Danny because Jack is basically telling him that he started drinking because of his family; He's trying to break Danny's concept of his father by telling him that Jack became an alcoholic because of him and his mom, that all the horrible things that happened and his father's death were indirectly caused by him Imagine finally seeing your father after so many years and the thing he tells you is that everything was your fault I would totally take the drink in his place Danny's face says everything, those words hurted, but he's not gonna take the drink; Jack thinks the drink is medicine, Danny knows the drink is the poison
I’m recently diagnosed ADHD. I’m very young still but very determined to nip alchohol consumption in the bud. A lot of people with ADHD end up drinking impulsively, drinking to numb a too fast head, or in my case to not be tortured by brief glimpses of what focus feels like. I’m very lucky I got diagnosed and safely medicated before twenty.
For an alcoholic withOUT a wife or kids....life is the mouth. Everyone's in it....the same game. The family may not be there, but that's the point....just a target for a false father to blame. A father with a problem....like all of us....but a father who can't solve it right. If not the family, something else....all the bills, strife with work, this crisis or that...any exchange or sacrifice or appointment in life...all perceived villains. Your neighbor's in the same game, true, but maybe.....maybe he's got his wits or some edge. It is all about that brain. That's what gets you everything with our species, so do whatever you can for it. Joe BigBucks may have won the genetic lottery, but you didn't....so, to even the score you might need to flex it a bit...meditate, therapy, basic body health, word puzzles,.....whatever it takes! The alcoholic panics and despairs in his problems, as any thinking being aware of his situation might....and that leads him to the romance of the drink. So delicious, so elegant, so refreshing, so comforting in thought....but if you could manage the mindset of your problems or situation, that need to escape would diminish. And that's the hard, lonely truth.
It was a big line in the TV series that Stephen King directed pulled directly from the book. As Jack chased Danny through the hotel he repeatedly told him to "Come out and take your medicine, Danny."
