Thanks for replying. We just got same word from marina she under contract. They will let us know if things change. We are new subscribers. Looking foward to your videos. @@lowsodiumsailing
The beaver island metal sculpture was a burning man piece by the local artist that bought that property. It has a fire pit in the middle. If you look at the hands they are all unique with a short message left by people in previous years.
@rerobisonr No more footage as of right now, plans are in place for 1-2 SCUBA videos this coming summer, along with a sailing trip! Thanks again for watching we really appreciate it!
We have a house on Beaver Island. We love the island and all its beauty. That ball is from Burning man as a guy on the island was one of its founders from what we know.
Erik - Thanks for the background on that ball! It was very interesting! That is awesome you have a place there, it was such an amazing time. We will be going back someday! Thanks for watching!
Wow!!!! Well first thanks so much for watching our videos! That is crazy! I grew up sailing on that boat, I believe my dad bought her in 1991 from original owner and our family sailed her until 2020-2021…..I have a special place in my heart for that boat ⛵️….she always kept us safe!
Awesome! Yea we sail out of Sheboygan now, but my Dad still is out of MYC in Milwaukee with his boat so we are down there quite a bit - hopefully will see you down there this season 👍
Ahh that makes sense….my German is poor I guess 😂 - She’s a 1980 Hunter 33 “Cherubini” model. We love her, very easy to sail! Thanks for watching Stillwater Sailor! 🤙🏻
Hey Saltless! How is winter treating you? I totally agree, a meetup would be super fun - I know with talking to the family we are debating a Portage Lake (Onekama) anchorage, perhaps Ludington? Trying new places….maybe a trip staying WI side as well…🤔
@@lowsodiumsailing So far It is looking like I am heading North from Muskegon at the end of June. I like to stop in Ludington. I have crossed several times. It is easiest direct from Frankfort or better to hit Beaver Island and cross from there. Make sure you plan to hit Rock Island across from Washington Island. It is really cool place with a strange history. Also free dockage (or almost free, I think it might be ten bucks now) Washington Island has a decent anchorage in front of the public beach on the NW side. Fayette is a great stop also with a large old town museum that is very cool. What month do you think you might be heading out?
I think we are planning on second half of July for the Michigan side trip, once we get our schedules in order and figure out where we would like to go - Might be having more family come this time around so it should be fun! Thanks for the good info on the other stops 👍
Hello Into the Mystic! I believe we had a 7 to 1 ratio out - we only have a couple feet of chain so I usually try to have more out, especially when anchoring for a couple days. I did set a secondary anchor but was not necessary….it was just a peace of mind thing after a little anchor drag 😁. The bay at South Manitou is deep except right by shore so you have to anchor close - there is one anchorage spot where (usually marked on navigation maps) it’s a more “gradual” incline so you have more room to drop the hook. Happy and safe sailing! You will love it there it was amazing!
I like cables creek. My wife and I just bought land out there. Beaver island is my favorite place in the world. Stress Instantly leaves your body when you step foot in paradise bay. Great video.
Thanks so much for watching! It was such an amazing time, I will be sailing back there one of these summers for sure! Congratulations on getting a slice of paradise on the island!
We spent this winter again morning here in Williamsburg Michigan enjoying a few of your videos, great quality and inspiring. We are boat people but have never done Beaver Island or the Manitu Islands but would like to possibly this summer. Shared your videos with our sons and their family in hoped maybe they might like to work towards a few days to those places. Ever sail up and around the Leelanau Peninsula to the south end of West bay to enjoy Power Island? Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Hello E S! Thanks for watching, we are so happy people are enjoying our videos! We have not made it up and around into the Grand Traverse Bay yet, but it is on the list for sure! We just looked up Powers Island - seems to be an amazing place to drop the hook and hang out! Do you have experience sailing/boating around there? We love learning from others about cool places to go. Thanks!
@@lowsodiumsailing We have only power boated around power island a few times, never spent the night but plan to for a weekend or a few days. Our younger son lives On Old mission Peninsula and has shared access directly across from the island. Where we live we are fortunate to be within 10 minutes of lake michigan water or other amazing bodies of water like the Torch Lake Chain where we spend most of or boating time. I have a few sail boats that I hope we start using a lot more, the largest is only a 23' Grampian G23 that I have yet to sail. My older son put a few videos of us enjoying the Torch waterway where we spend most of out time. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kdCtykNQrD0.html
Logan THANK YOU for the information regarding drone use! I honestly had no prior knowledge. Sometimes my drone would give me warnings on restricted airspace etc. when nearby, but nothing on South Manitou - is there a way to check an area prior to flying?
@@lowsodiumsailing No probb. I don't know much about drones or where to fly. I just know they are banned from all NPS lands and anything designated federal wilderness. So just be on the lookout for those designations
@@loganclark8880 Thanks again! We updated our description to let others know, and I found a great app called "B4UFLY" which shows any restricted areas nearby.
Awesome I didn’t know anybody still sailed Lake Michigan like this anymore. One thing I’d love to do coming out of south Chicago to mackinaw. Great vids
Loving your videos! I sailed those waters as a kid with my family. Beautiful areas and memories. Hope to be back there soon. What type of boat is Pelican?
Thanks for your Great Lakes sailing videos. Great video shots and location info. When it fits, add more technical info about your boat and gear and your sailing techniques for us geeks. Many of us are hungry to learn all we can about the differences between Great Lakes and ocean sailing. Keep on sharing your adventures!
Thanks Ken! Appreciate the comment and suggestion. I think I could easily incorporate some info about our boat and gear in the future, it’s a great idea! I’m always looking for input in regards to future content….Thanks!
I hear people talking about the Manitous but I’ve never bothered with them as I figured there wasn’t much to see beside trees and bugs. Hoping to stop here this season. Thanks for the great vid. Did you have any trouble with holding in the harbor with the higher winds? I assume it’s a sand bottom.
I loved Frankfort! Last time we sailed there we ate at maple and birch. I gotta check out that trail next time. I’ve never been to the south shore of the harbor. We’ve always treated Frankfort as a weather stop along the way but I’ve never gotten to explore as much as I would have liked. Great video! I can’t wait to go back and check things out.
Nice looks like you had a great day in my hometown... laundry is a rip-off.... Hope you work your way down to Manistee or one, Arcadia probably isn't worth the stop....
Barry - It was so beautiful! I wish I could've stayed longer, I will have to sail back and really do some more exploring of the area. Our next stop on this trip was Manistee! I will be working on that video soon, hopefully publishing in a couple weeks! Have fun this upcoming sailing season!
Just saw your video come up. Winter is breaking here, there are actually blue skies, the ice is melting out there....and I haven't sailed in almost 2 years! You are getting me exited to get back out there again...hopefully soon!
We had a transient slip in Sheboygan in 2021 on our way to Door county from Muskegon. What a great town and harbor. Excited to go back this season for a few days. What kind of depth did you have there in the slip? I draw nearly 10’ so depth is a pretty consistant issue 😂
In regards to the harbor depth, I know that from my observations they have set up the bigger race boats (which I assume draw more underneath) towards the end of the piers, which is also convenient for length. I see them every year at some point stopping in. The staff at Harbor Centre Marina are great and could probably answer the question better than me if you gave them a call! If I only had a working depth sounder 🤔
Thanks Randy! I am definitely going to have to sail there. Someone else in the comments mentioned Fayette also, it looks like an amazing place to explore and a great protected anchorage. Thanks for tuning in!
This is my first video I've watched of yours! Caught my attention, I use to be a Paramedic on Beaver Island! Great people live there! Plus you have a great first name! Spending time with your Dad is priceless! Enjoy every moment! Subscribed and can't wait to see more content, keep up the great work!
Nice video! You definitely explored more of the island than I did. And, great timing with the Mac Race :) Thanks for sharing. Check out some of my video on SV Great Escape, and subscribe if you like it :) Maybe, see you sometime in Sheboygan. Cheers!
Awesome content of the island! I'm looking forward to following along with your sailing adventures. As someone who grew up on Lake Michigan (Manitowoc) its really interesting to see the perspective of someone sailing and exploring this beautiful lake.
I rewatched your video and I have a question and maybe some advise. Have you been to Fayette Michigan? If not you need to check it out. You will be amazed and impressed with the views, the hiking and the old preserved mining town. I am head to the North Channel next season. Have you been there?
Hey Saltless - I have not been to Fayette, but I see that you stopped there on your journey last year. I actually don’t know much about it so I’ll have to look into it now! Thanks for the recommendation! And the dream is to someday make it up to North Channel, I have not been up there yet. I can’t wait to see your videos, it looks amazing up there 🤙🏻
Thanks for the comment Clinton! I’ve only sailed around the Door County area once, and would love to do it again and explore more! Definitely on the to-do list for this channel. Thanks for watching and have fun this coming summer!
