I saw the faceless live and I went and practiced like crazy because Keene played so well I got super jealous. The faceless was the band that made me love tech prog.
This is so painful to watch. I think Michael Keene is truly a godlike composer and musician but please... get your life back together! This band could've been the best technical death metal act in the world
Sadly I think this band is done with. And I honestly believe, Keene is gonna be found dead one day of an overdose, just like so many others before him. Nobody that has anything to do with this band seems to want to confront him about it, or even talk to him about it, they'd rather just make up excuses THAT HAVE NOTHING to do with terrible live performances. Then again, with his history, he'd probably just fire them if they even dared to confront him about it so I guess its a no win situation, which would explain why it just seems theres nothing but yes men around him, this is also the same guy who went on a massive blocking spree, me included, on their bands facebook page for anyone who called him out on his bullshit. Which only fuels my belief hes gonna end up dead overdosed.
If that day comes, I wouldn't be surprised, but it would be devastating to me because I love his music so much. He's the best death metal guitarist, in my opinion. The guy wrote some of the sickest riffs and most soulful solos in the genre. He did some great vocals as well. I really wish he could overcome that fucking addiction.
@@arthurschon8116 Its always fun to be reminded of some comment you made years ago and have no memory of, but yeah i just recently found out about the zenith passage so my needs are kinda being filled now.
I gotta give credit to him in the sense that even his sloppiest and worst playing is still shredding circles around a lot of guitarists on their best day. Hope he gets the help he needs
Saw then playing earlier this year. Last show of the South America tour (which had some downers), the guys were exausted, we could see on their faces, but all in all, Michael did a pretty good job. Even Julian vocals were as good, if not better than 2019
damn this makes me sad, fuck heroine and what it robs from the world...this guy is a master at writing and if not for horrible habbits that are near impossible to overcome he would be a machine still...
holy shit...love the guy's work, for the most part, but this is just bad...is he rehearsing at all? Lead playing is absolutely a parishable skill...you can't play songs like these without rehearsing A LOT.
As a former heroin addict and guitarist I can confidently say that once you surrender to the substance you literally stop doing everything in life you enjoy and all focus goes into obtaining the fix, I spent months doing this I went from not an addict practicing 5-7 hours a day to daily substance use and my guitars collecting dust on my stands and I was in a band too, I didn’t even look at them let alone play, then I got help, I’ve been totally clean for 6 months now and back into my regular guitar routine, and personally killing it in my band, and loving life, glad I got the help I needed.
I saw them over the summer last year and he fucked up almost every solo. First time I’ve ever seen a guitar player fuck up a solo live and I’ve been to a lot of concerts. Heroin is terrible drug. I LOVE The Faceless but it’s no wonder why he can’t keep band members for longer than one tour. Get your shit together man!
For anyone who hasn't seen what Keene can actually play like, go back and watch some of their old live shows, and let these new ones be an example of what rampant heroin abuse can do to even the best of guitarists. Pls get help mr michael sir :(
good to hear if its true but he really is throwing away a lot by letting his addiction problems do that to him. everyone knows, despite the memes, how good he is.
It's awful seeing him in a state like that. I'm a recovering addict with opiates/opioids and been sober for the past year and a half. I actually started listening to The Faceless six months into my recovery and I just love this band. Hope Michael gets some help. Heroin is fucking awful.
Damn, that makes me really sad. The Faceless was one of my all time favorites after I discovered Autotheism. I hope they take their time to get better.
Really sad to watch, and moreso to witness in person. Their albums have had a profound impact on my life and I sincerely hope Keene bounces back into newfound greatness.
as someone who knows what it's like, Michael is incredibly doped up in that first clip (and possibly others). you can see him stretching his face to try and open his eyes to keep from nodding out. that combined with a lack of practice and being in a bad place mentally makes for sub-par playing. i really hope he gets it together because he's incredibly talented
To anyone who's ever played guitar knows that his skills are definitely there. It's just a TOTAL lack of practice. That's what Justin McKinney said, too - Michael just never practices. He's guessing almost every note, and hoping his guesswork is buried in the mix. This is painful to watch.
This is still edited footage of all the fucked up parts. This shit happens if you don't have time to warm up (not saying that's the reason). I say it's fine... But he clearly needs help. If he reached out to friends (if he have any left) or heck, the metal community, in which he has a bad reputation now, people might be willing to help him. I really hope he doesn't want to go on as a junkie, I really hope he doesn't like being like this.
