He should have quietly ran up the stairs instead of hiding behind the grandfather clock. Then again, you can't leave children unattended with stuff that's bigger than them that could fall on them and get themselves hurt if they bump into it or mess with it. Especially if they're playing hide and seek and are going to want to see if someone is hiding behind the grandfather clock. And that clock is bigger than those kids.

At 1:07 of this clip Cliff ( Bill Cosby) proves how stupid and nieve parents can be. He tries to lie and say to the grandkids "I am not afraid of Mrs Huxtable." Sure he is not he is scared shitless of her otherwise why would he have said it. Parent's never realize that kids see and report everything. Kids are smarter than adults and adults are fearful of that. 😮
It is indeed very odd for moe who owns a tavern where people mostly drink beer to have such a sophisticated and unusual and specific brewage under the bar, pre-made to be served there is a clear mismatch between the audience's understanding of the setting being a regular bar and the actual unfolding which you have described
