Husband and wife team that love getting outside exploring, whether it be backpacking, hiking, trail running or van camping. This year(2024) we are attempting the PCT starting April 11.
I can understand your hesitation of coming back...I'm sure you'll regain your momentum and routine ...with that said, glad you came back. I haven't heard much about fires in Washington but, San Bernardino N.F. ( where u already hiked) got hit hard with fires and PCT is probably closed for a while.
Amazing how much burned areas you two are passing through. So much devastation. I hear of all the fires up North but, your hike has really brought it to reality for me.
Thanks for the video. I live in Ashland and its nice to see views of the PCT in this area. However the volume is too low and the fact that you have polluted your video with an overlay of schmaltzy music means the viewers can not simply turn up the volume to hear you clearly.
Oregon is beautiful. Friends in Oakridge and Eugene. My dad retired in So. Cal (sort of) then moved to Medford and work as a Police Officer for a few years . Not a lot of snow for the most part but, they make that up in rain
Gosh, these are beautiful images but I can’t hear what you’re saying!! I’ve got my volume turned up as high as it can go and I still can’t hear what you are saying. Sometimes microphones go bad on cell phones when they get too damp. An easy fix is to use a set of earplugs with microphones. Can be found at most gas stations.
Welp....it was nice having you in California, seemed like a good run except for the fires. I'm not entirely sure what parts of Oregon you are walking through but, the areas I have been didn't disappoint
I grew up the central sierra nevadas which teemed with water; it never fails to amaze how arid northern california is, although you guys managed to make some of it look verdant. the cows must have been grazing in meadows, no?
It is definitely much drier here, it was like going back to Southern California, always checking where the next water is. You are right about the cows, they like to hang out by the water.
@@phila8226 Yes, we are in a large “bubble” of hikers right now due to the Park fire. The smoke has caused most hikers to move forward to the Etna area. There were over 50 other hikers passing through Seiad Valley today.
I was going to ask if your shoes were due for replacement. I kinda chuckled looking back at 1st video...Mr Shanes hair was high and tight....now it's...a bit more free spirited.
Why do I never see people fishing in these beautiful mountain lakes? Is that something you just don't do? Just asking don't hurt me lol 😂. Nice video 👍 I live in the southern Sierra mountains right down the road from PCT... Kernville
@@dandowning-m3k They sure are nice mountain lakes. Every now and then we run into someone who is fishing, we don’t carry fishing rods mostly because they weigh to much and we don’t have much spare time to fish while backpacking. Most of the lakes are too remote to allow easy access for boats etc. There was one hiker we saw who carried a fishing rod from Campo to at least the Sierra’s. He had some good success fishing along the way👍
I can believe how hot it is up there...knew it would be warm but, not 90's. This high pressure system is hopefully moving on this week. Been smoking hot down south
Enjoy watching the videos, lots of great views... One thing though, when speaking on camera please talk to the camera. When you turn your head away from the camera your voice fades away. Makes it hard to follow what your saying.
You guys are probably conditioned from the altitude. It seems like you have been hovering at or around 10,000ft. If you dropped to sea level, you'd probably do 30 miles.
I 'm curious if it is easy to follow the trail...especially where it is rocky. Are there GPS apps on your phone to help you stay on trail. Sometimes while your filming and walking, I can't make out the trail
@@pudster4115 In most places the trail is very easy to follow as long as it is not covered/impassable due to snow or other things. Most hikers use an app called “FarOut” which provides a very good gps track. It also shows water sources and some tent sites etc.
Yeah, fire season has started so every day you dawdle in town is another day a fire could ruin your hike to Canada. Not really sure where you are because you don't post the actual dat on the video, wish you would.
So yeah, Mammoth mountain is a volcano, so lots of volcanic rocks around, As you drive Hwy 395 from LA for example you see cinder cones and lava flows. Looks like you missed Devil's Postpile or didn't film it. You could have crossed the San Joaquin river, other hikers ahead of you did it.
Im amazed how barren it gets with the altitude; little vegetation an rock. I hope none of the fires delay your travels. I know PCT has some closures this week
We are hoping we can continue to hike north. The Royal fire is are first concern. Further north the trail is closed. We will most likely have to find a way around this section unfortunately.
