I used to have this gimbal and I had a lot of expectations about it. Unfortunately I didn’t have a satisfactory experience with it and the Bmpcc4k + Sigma 18-35. I tried several times to calibrate it and even following the suggestions from the technical support and other users, it didn’t work as expected. So sad cause it was a great product with great payload and features for that time was released. Also they didn’t give firmware updates to control cinema cameras just dslr cameras.
First I agree with you on some things. One, we are talking about a gimbal that was released in 2019 or earlier and at that time was a gimbal with the largest payload which also steered me to it. Two, it's not the easiest gimbal to balance the BMPCC4k-6k on, which is probably why Blackmagic designed the new PYXS camera. But with a little time, you can get it to balance and work well, this is not the fault of the gimbal. Three, I'm not entirely sure but, I believe there is not a gimbal that will control a camera that is not a Mirrorless or DSLR setup. Blackmagic, ZCam, and Red cinema cameras can not be controlled by the gimbal. Four, I never use zoom lenses on my gimbals, It's pointless and throws the balance way off. The operator is the zoom this is the point of being on a gimbal or a dolly/slider or on a techno crane, if you want a close-up you move closer if you want a wide you move further away. Five, calibration and balance are not the same you must have your camera completely and perfectly balanced for it to work properly. Yes, it's not the best gimbal out there today I would probably go with a DJI RS3 Pro or RS4, but it's mostly operator error and not entirely the gimbal's fault. I have used mine with Zeiss CP2 lenses and Canon Primes lenses with a lightweight matte box and had no issues once I got it to balance correctly. Thanks for the comment, I hope this helps.
Tungsten light is so clean, accurate colour reproduction where clients need accuracy. To me it's unbeatable. Used it as a pro for 35 yrs. Also with the Fresnel lense and power they have the have a long throw with the abilty to light large spaces.
I love tungsten, and HMI's, and love that i can get them so cheap now, 30-40$ a piece. Arri is a bit more expensive used, but honestly, the build quality of Strand/Ianiro, Sachtler, LTM is better. I got a 5k Sachtler fresnel for 35 bucks and 3 globes for 30. Two Arri 1.2k HMI with magnetic ballat for 50, well, one igniter was broken, but i could fix it with a transformer from a dead Kobold HMI that i got for free. Also an LTM 2.5k HMI fresnel with flickerfree ballast for 250... I don't really know when will i use them, but even if once a year, why not keep them in the stoage? The 2.5k HMI is still a viable option, a similar LED would cost thousands. HMI's can be tricky to fix, so if someone is not experienced in electronics, stay with tungsten, bring it to an electrician or a shop where they fix household electronics, they can surely help with a lamp.
Thanks for the comment. There is a lot here to unpack like LTM 2.5k which is a great lamp but in the 120v world cannot be used on house power and smartly replaced by the M1.8 or the K5600 1600w Joker. I hope you continue to watch more great content from this channel.
My space is roughly 1500sq feet. The actual cyc wall is close to 300sq feet. You make what you have work. I do multiple types of work like videography and photography which is why my space is a bit larger. Also, a 10ft ceiling is an added bonus if you want to hang lights in the sky like my studio.
Honestly, I go with anything that is Full Frame, I think the comparison from a canon to a Zeiss is very equal vs the comparison from a canon to a Samyang/Rokinon is very distinct and off-putting. My 1st choice would be Zeiss CP3 or CP2 cinema lenses. Next would be Zeiss Milvus or Canon L series Primes and the third choice would be an old Canon USM Prime lens which I have used on serval jobs. It really depends on the job, I choose Zeiss over Canon due to cost and solid build and use with a follow focus vs the cheap Canon primes that are not easy to use lens gears with to pull focus on things like gimbals. I prefer manual focus vs any lens with an autofocus. It's not always about picture quality over function I go with function from a solid company like Zeiss who has a solid reputation for contrast and solid build vs a cheap company like Samyang/Rokinon, Meikie, DZO, NISI, or Viltrox.
To be fair, the reason I've got an OG BMPCC is because I wanted a small compact setup I can literally throw in my pocket, with amazing colour depth to document moments without needing a rig of some sort. You get 2000mah high capacity internal batteries now that let you run the OG for up to an hour continuously and with a 14mm pancake lens it's barely bigger than my phone, with incredible images! The micro has it's place if you're doing rigged out production work, and I had my FX30 and FX3 for that. But comparing taking my FX3 with me on a trip with the BMPCC is like apples and oranges. The BMPCC is much more convenient, even with full manual control because I'm not worried about it as much and it doesn't take up space. Simple, easy, done.
Most of my videos are only speaking from a certain point of view as a filmmaker. I am never one to bash anyone for a camera choice. You choose a camera that works best for you and what you are doing with it? I actually just sold my BMMCC because it no longer works for me in my production. Yes, there are things that suck about the BMMCC like adding a monitor, but again strictly looking at this camera from a filmmaker pov who will add a monitor and make sure everything is in focus. Both are great cameras and both have drawbacks to them. Actually, the BMMCC was my wife's favorite camera due to its size and how light it was to use even with a monitor. Thanks for sharing your opinion with us. Hope your subscribed to the channel.
Hey I just brought the Laing M30F and I’m using a URSA 12K pro. But when I plug everything in as follows. But there’s no power going through the camera. Do you think the battery might be too weak to support this rig?
My hollyland transmitter 400s is not coming on, When i pressed the power button,no display on the LCD screen.I need help please on who can fix the problem for me.Waiting for your help .
The resell value is the image:price ratio. BMD corners the market on this ratio. Hands down. Not debatable. Its for NO other reasons than this, meaning the image characteristics. Any modern camera, even within the BMD lineup, offers better specs and features in terms of operation and convenience than the old pockets and micros. But what the modern cameras fail to do even 10 years later is to offer a filmic image that renders a painterly motion cadence for a fraction of the cost. You have to start breaking into the cinema line Canon/Sony, RED, Arri territory for that. Which translates to a second mortgage. Consequently, the new BMD Pockets and Cinema 6K, which, for all practical purposes, is just another version of a Pocket, offers the next best thing. When it comes to quality:pricepoint BMD is currently king of the hill. Other camera makers have the resources to compete here, but they lack the will to place people before profits, and THAT is why you pay for features over the kind of image most filmmakers lust after. The issue is audiences don't watch your camera specs. Instead, they hopefully get immersed into your film/creative world. Sources: I own Pocket OG, 4K & 6K Pro. I edit footage from all sorts of cameras.
Great video! I am a BMPCC-OG user... Do more research about the OG before compare with the Micro...The sensor is not "much the same" and no touchscreen on OG...etc BM Micro is a very small camera but it has no screen at all, so it's not really that "micro".
Thanks kindly for the tips. How did you rig the smaller pistol? I have to do a POV for a lifestyle shoot on a yacht (no weapons) and the owners want a POV of the customers/models. I hate GoPros also and wanna use the Sony Fx3. Any ideas?
What I used was a budget Steadicam vest. Since it has an all metal construction you can rig 2 mini matthellini clamps with some swivel 5/8 clamps with 5/8 baby pins with 3/8 thread you can thread those into your camera cage and rig from there or a simple method is to use super maffer clamps with a few magic arms.
I bought mine 2 years ago with a hard shell case for $700 however it came with 3 lenses valued at $450 so I got a good deal. The quality is still amazing.
I haven't touched a Panasonic since the HVX200. If you don't care about auto focus and weight/size I always go for the blackmagic Apple prores and raw are unbeatable.
Well said. I remember 25 years ago going to down to London doing these two/three day film schools that cost several hundred quid for the course not counting hotel bills and very expensive train tickets where the "tutor" mentions in passing the films they worked and the names in the industry they mentored and got them to where they are. It was only four or five years that you could look up these "tutors" on the internet only to find via the IMDb that their only film credits were a couple of small "Thanks to ..." credit on obscure moviesSo it was there and then I realised I'd wasted my money. As you said networking is everything
And why should we trust you, I got three of them have owned them for years. I also own three Panasonic G7 4k cameras since round when they came. To get a good full hd cam today or good but cheap 4 k camera where can I buy them and for how much. I also own a BMCC 2.5k should I throw that in the creek backside of my house? Any good mobile phone outperforms pretty much every normally priced cam today so why bother getting a real camera at all.
Thanks for the comment but I think you missed the point of the video. This video is for people looking at buying this camera today and just making a suggestion (in my opinion as some one who owns almost every Blackmagic camera) not for people who already own one. I would never suggest someone who already owned this camera throw it in the trash, I still own a BMCC 2.5k and still use it. Yes I also discussed the high cost of all these cameras on the used market and suggest there are better cameras out there like maybe the Panasonic G7 4k that sells for the same price used as the BMPCC.
Here in China Mailada are widely available but Fulaim are not. I'm interested in the Fulaim X5 which appears to be identical to the Mailada X5S. Are they just rebadging of the same things?
In my opinion, I think all of these items come out of one factory then are rebranded. You can also look at HollyLand Mars International or MOMA named in china that have the exact same mics as Fulaim and Mailada. Honestly I have never heard of Fulaim before (founded in 2018). I can ask Mailada and find out. Personally I think you are safe buying from either Mailada or MOMA which are companies in China that have been around longer than Fulaim so if anything goes wrong with them you can get customers service. Follow my Facebook and my RU-vid and I can get back to you on what Mailada says.
@@CoreCreativeMedia Isn't that interesting! They all share the same design colour scheme (black and yellow) and look the same but just have slightly different graphics!
@@WillNewcomb That is pretty common practice in China. Saramonic Mailada, Moma, Pixel, are all Chinese companies that seem to be produced in the same factory.
I haven't tested it, but hear good things. I'm only comparing the two Blackmagic cameras which are pretty much the same camera in different bodies and only comparing because most RU-vidrs keep pumping the Pocket OG. Also only looking at cameras between $400-$800. You would be very lucky to find a Sigma FP for less than $1200 used. At that price I would save my money to see what Blackmagic does next.
I own the OG and FP, both amazing cameras. I’ve owned the OG from 2013. The FP is basically a large version of the OG with all the same OG issues. Both cameras absolutely need to be rigged which means they’re both not micro anymore. For the OG it’s useless without an external monitor, you’re guessing about focus or proper exposure without one. The image from my OG is incredible and I’ve invested over time on all the accessories needed to make great images but I agree with CoreCreativeMedia, there’s better options than the OG right now.
yep, I have an old Manfrotto 501, still works great. Bought it used almost 20years ago. I also have a roller thing, and gorilla pod I never use. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment Steve. Perfect example of a waste of money that you can never resell. Versus something like a Manfrotto you can use for a lifetime. Please like and subscribe to the channel to help us keep doing these videos!
If you are talking about the Micro Studio 4k IDK? I owned one then sold it almost immediately. I didn't do my research about having to buy a BM Video Assist and at that time it only recorded Apple ProRes 4.2.2 at 1080p and cost $500-$750 plus the $1500 camera. That was completely worthless for a 4k camera. Compared to the Micro Cinema which shot in CinemaDNG Raw up to 1080p and Apple ProRes 4.2.2 internally and can purchase a cheap monitor from small hd or feelworld.
Thanks for the comment. I think there are far better cameras out there you don't have to color grade, which is not fun, and get Full HD slow motion if you want to shoot for fun. I think they really want that cinema look OG has, why if just for fun IDK? Plus still needs some rigging due to poor battery life, mic for decent audio, and a monitor for outside filming. I hope you help us out and subscribe to the channel.
@@CoreCreativeMedia BMPCCOG has pro res options. I'm a software engineer, but my friend who is a video editor w/ a film degree tells me he uses the BMPCCOG b/c (1) small size (2) short battery life means his wife won't be annoyed b/c he's limited (3) challenge of setting up the shots w/ no ibis, etc. Obviously color grading isn't an issue for him. No doubt the micro camera is a better tool. I'm just pointing out that as a toy for camera nerds, the BMPCCOG makes more sense.
@@CoreCreativeMediaColor grading is not an issue, is a Plus+ for a cinema camera. Did you ever owned or used the Og? I had the chance to practice one year in a "Hollywood" studio (2022), they were still using the Og for some reason...for delicate action scenes. They have like 5-6 og-s on stock saying "never knows when we need them"
They are out there at a quick look MPB is selling them for around $650 and I just saw one on eBay for $550, These are sold naked so no cage or monitor but monitors are not that expensive today.
@@dlprod11 If you bought this new is 2016 for $665 that was a hell of a deal. They were $995 brand new up until a few years ago when they were discontinued.
They have been a great light for many projects. They work flawlessly, very color accurate and the app is very intuitive. I have an over view video coming soon be sure to subscribe to catch that video.
I have a BMMCC and I love it, it does have some limitations but nothing that can't be solved with a couple of accessories such as a speedbooster and a decent monitor, the super 16 sensor is honestly something else, much better than any full frame cameras today.
It's a great camera, IDK if I would go so far to say it's better than any full frame, there are many great cameras these days. I'm just surprised at the resale value for both compared to other cameras. Remember to Please Subscribe to the channel.
Great review. I've used the E2 S6 for nearly 3 years now and love it. Your thoughts are on point both pros and cons. One thing to note regarding external raw is that they released a firmware update allowing Black Magic Raw with the BM assist 12g. So even though you're in Davinchi you could get a raw workflow running with the zcams
Thanks. I forgot to mention the BM Video Assist mostly because I own a Atomos Ninja V I would rather own the BM. Honestly I don't like external RAW recording it just adds more onto you and adds more expense. Thanks for the comment, please subscribe it really helps the channel out and there are more great things here.
These Lights are so simple to fix. The 1st thing I would do is check the Wires for any burning. If the issue is the light doesn't turn on then I bet it is the switch and needs to be replaced, of course that is only if the bulb isn't bad. If it is flickering on and off that could also be the switch, a loose wire inside the head, or the porcelain socket not making connection. A voltage meter with continuity testing can really help you locate the issue. Sending it somewhere to be fix is too costly. I hope this helps you out, remember to help me out by liking and subscribing if you haven't.
It would depend on where you are and how the location is set up. This works for my space and the design might have to change due to the type of space you have and the size of the space.
I cannot recommend a gimbal for you. I can say that I tried to balance it on my Feiyutech AK4500n and hard a terrible time balancing it. But I was using a Large Cinema Lens but still under its 4KG weight limit. I have not tried it yet with small canon prime. My best guess would be a DJI MX that for sure can handle it but it is an older gimbal and you can find fairly cheap used. Personally I wouldn't buy a gimbal that cost more than the camera at this point. Don't forget to like and subscribe!
@@CoreCreativeMedia hello i shoot today with this camera and have a red gitch flash effect en the raw footage in the premiere line do u know what it is this issue
I can't answer without seeing what is happening. Plus I don't use Premiere ever. Download DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic non-studio version is free. If you persist on using Premiere check this video to see if its the same issue ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NtyO95WpHgA.html
