Cheers for this, I have been researching "social media manager jobs work from home" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Tanathan Hyperstorm Social - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin got excellent success with it.
As a former student at Radio1 i warn people to save your money and not waste it on school. Complaints filed and small claims filed with the fraud and rip-off with the 1 man owner of this for profit business.
I wouldn't have any of these so-called "teachers" teaching radio in Australia! More likely we Australians should be teaching you Americans how to do radio correctly. I've done over ten years of community radio here in Australia so I know what I'm talking about. Announcer examples to avoid: The worst-ever American radio announcer was Wolfman Jack. Watch the movie "American Graffiti" and you'll see what I mean.... All gimmick, no substance! If you want to learn to radio, come to Australia and join a community station, there you'll learn the proper way!
wow they had roto pots I haven't seen those in 30 years. Thats some old tech LOL. most of the boards I saw in the vid were old Very few mixing boards used anymore. Its all digital on the computer. Haven't used a board in the last 5 years.
PS. See the Guy at 1.54. The Pieces of Paper He has In His hand, They are the PRS Slips (Payment Royalty Slips) For ever Piece of Music You play You have to Fill these In So they can Get there Royalty Money. Another Reason why You can't just Play a Random Piece of Music.
Over here In England. A School like this would be Useless. There are very Little Actual D.J.'s on the Air. (You Know the ones who Grafted for years Dragging In and out Equipment and Box's of Records/CD's) IE: Real D.J.'s. All You need now Is a Degree In Journalism. Because that Is what they are, Journalists Playing Music. And when these so called Celebrity D.J.'s Turn up at Your Club they have a Pre-Recorded Flash Stick with the Music on (Cause they are doing up to Three Appearance's a night) Then they Screw up all Your Setting's Pretending to Mix. I Started at School just playing Records In the Breaks. Then when I left got a Van and Started doing them all over. I still do It today and I am now 56 Years Young but still feel 18. I just love It I play Records/CD's MP3's what ever the Booker of the Party wants. So do the Same It Is more Rewarding In the end than Radio. Where You will be Replaced by 20. You are Your own Boss. They don't tell You here at this school that there will be Men In Suits Who know Crap about Modern Music choosing the Music You will play on your show. These are called Programers. That was the one thing I hated about working In radio. You were given a Pile of Records and Played them and the Next Broadcaster would come In and Shuffle them like a Pack of cards and start playing them all again In a different order and that was day In day Out. One Word BORING!.
Radio1 u guys are doing great I must say. And the Chris Jackson guy I admire him hope I can follow him on twitter. We run same kind of radio program I thought I was fast until I heard Chris. Please I need his twitter handler I wish I could enroll into this school but am in Nigeria. This is my email: gistcrawler@gmail.com Thanks
They forgot to mention "Voice Tracking". It seems like live radio is almost gone, and anybody with good PC skills can just voice track a 5 hour music show in about 20-30 minutes. The very piece of gear I am posting this comment on has taken the radio industry to nearly nobody. Now, thanks to Pandora, a person can have their own station with mp3 files of new music, retro, whatever, without a live jock.
This sort of school is useless. Far better off going for a comm major at a regular university. That way you can find another job when you get past 20 and realize: It's a crap industry where air talent is disposable, cheap and abundant. Minimum wage is what you can expect with a "prestigious" career. Any school like this has a near zero placement rate and if grads do get hired, it's because they are willing to sleep in thier cars in the station parking lot.
Is it just me? Or is it weird that people are actually trained to sound like other radio hosts? That we can tell people have a so called "radio voice"?
