Hey, I'm Kev! I restore vintage cookware- iron, aluminum, pyrex, cutlery, furniture, etc.. Saving usable pieces of history from the scrapyard and making a few bucks along the way. Come walk with me as I go picking at flea markets, estate sales, thrift stores, and garage sales! I'll also post videos of how to's, selling, or other projects as well. Please like, subscribe, and comment- your feedback helps! Check out some of my links down below, thank you!
Search for Cast Iron Kev on etsy, instagram, FB, twitter, and pinterest! I just added an Amazon goodie page to show some of the products I use for vintage restorations, projects, kitchen gadgets, tech, and even snacks- I receive a tiny commission if you buy something from the list, at no extra cost to you!
That was a good score. That Philco console was about a 40-50 dollar item as is. I f you're looking for a cool 78 player, I can do one of these - the one in this video got sold 1 month ago but I have another -ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cO_w6mHNE6E.html
@Perfidious_Hollow I'm both hurt and flattered by your comment, so thank you haha Nah, iron isn't for everyone- but I enjoy sharing a bit of everything vintage!
The early phonographs are my original collection interest. I started collecting those back when I was 12 years old😮. Bought many phonographs years ago when I went to Brimfield.
@castironkev Everyone thought I was weird! Lol My collection grew to over 300 phonographs. In 2004, started selling them off to serous collectors and on Ebay. All my cast iron was sold off in early 2002 except one number 8 Griswald that I use. Most phonographs sold off before 2008. As you know antiques never came back like before in 2008. I kept 15 phonographs and Regina Music boxes.
You reallly show what a dealer has to deal with at Brimfield. I collected cast iron some 30 years or more ago. Cast iron was easy to pick up back then at yard sales, church sales, and flea markets. My best find was a 20 inch cast iron fry pan, probably used in a roadhouse. I sold a lot on Ebay back in the late 90s. I liked Wapak with the molded Indian chief on the back. I even found one for 50 cents at a yard sale. I used to go to Brimfield back in the late 70s and early 80s buying my main collecting interest antique phonographs with horns, music boxes, and vintage records, and parts. I did branch out to cast iron, and art glass. Thanks for sharing your selling experience.
@Idelia412 Thanks for sharing your story! Can't beat a Wapak for 50 cents. Back in the 90s i was too busy riding BMX bikes and chasing girls, if I knew then what I know now I'd be buying up all the iron haha
Kev wife and I look forward to your videos , good job we figured out we can watch them on the tv thru you tube . We are older a bit teck challenged so came on here to give you a thumbs up
@@castironkev Continue to show the reality of picking. We don't have Danielle calling ahead to set up the perfect pick where the film crew just happens to be setup. (American Pickers) As long as you have a channel and need content there are no real stinkers. I'm retired and all I do are estate sales. This is the only place I can buy cast iron from people that don't know or care much about cast iron. It makes up a small percentage of the total sale. The best I've done is a Lodge California Acorn Pan for #25 and a Erie Ware salesman sample tea pot $8. There have been numerous times I've found pieces that I wouldn't have paid market value for. I collect but I don't have to have it. Part of the hobby is knowing when to walkaway. My Pan Cave is proof that you don't need to spend a fortune to have a collection. You do need to be patient however. 99% of America just said "Ah shit", the land of instant gratification. If you want that you'd better be playing with yourself, nothin else comes easily! lol
FYI, going thru the Jersey Shore section of CL the other day and someone is giving away a DRU Dutch # 32 oven made in Holland. I think its Bricktown, sorry forgot to get the town name but it is very close to me in here Jackson
@valeriegalindo7295 more often than not vendors don't like being on camera, and also viewers would yell at me for haggling even tho it's part of the process lol
Haven't been there in years.Used to do the drag strip swap with your Pop for almost 25 years twice a year. Lots of 90's and 2000's consumer stereo stuff around.
