The lower anchors do have a safety feature for while the child is using the booster. Those lower anchors keep the booster seat from sliding out from under the child in the unfortunate event of a wreck.
@countrykidscarseatsafety
@countrykidscarseatsafety 19 дней назад
@@kristencurryblalock9190 That’s not quite correct. When a booster is used correctly, with the seatbelt routed properly, it does not slide out from under the child, the lap portion of the seatbelt that is routed under the armrests (or in special notches, depending on the booster) catches the booster along with the child’s body.

I am truly happy to have stumbled across your videos. I thought I was doing it right (watched videos, etc) and couldn't figure out for the life of me why my child cried when the lap belt was digging into her thigh area. Here I am thinking its because she is too slim. I can't thank you enough for the work that you're doing. Please don't ever take these videos down from YT.

This is a fantastic, life-saving video. This should have more views/likes. It's a short video that goes straight to the point. Couldn't have been any better or clearer. Stop being lazy or gambling your or someone else's life. We only get one. This isn't a video game simulation. Get in the car, close the doors, and take off that coat. It's a minute vs a life. EDIT: I really wish videos like this were available in Spanish as well. The older generation could learn a lot. Prime example, my mother, who says, "I've never heard of that," and refuses to understand the consequences.

Hi Emily, we have a KidFit Zip Plus high back booster for my 5-year-old. This high back booster's backrest sits 90 degrees from the seat with no recline, so when he falls asleep, he slumps forward almost with his face down to his knees which I find alarming. The rear seat of the car does allow me to recline by a couple of inches, but the booster sits 90 degrees. I'm trying to decide whether to put a small wrapped-up towel under the front of the seat to allow the booster to recline or to use the retractor shoulder belt to "lock" the belt in position to keep him in the booster. What do you think?
@countrykidscarseatsafety
@countrykidscarseatsafety Месяц назад
@@sophiethewestie Hi there! That sounds frustrating. Neither of those options would be a safe idea, if the booster is reclined the child can slip down under the lap belt, and locking it is not necessary for a booster rider. A few recommendations: 1. Is he able to go back into a harnessed seat at his age? One of the criteria for using a booster is the ability to stay upright in their belt, even if they fall asleep. He may benefit from a harness til he’s a bit older. 2. Teach him to look up at the ceiling when sleepy! That can help him stay upright. 3. Consider a different booster with deeper side wings for more support.

The belt path on the bottom is supposed to be across her lap (across her legs). Also you're not suppose to lock the belt. Please don't advertise and give incorrect and potentially dangerous information.
@countrykidscarseatsafety
@countrykidscarseatsafety Месяц назад
Hi there! As a CPST I would not dream of giving unsafe or incorrect information. The vest is across her lap for most of the video (except the part where I am demonstrating to caregivers what NOT to do with it), and the manufacturer of the vest actually does permit the seatbelt to be locked if desired! Locking the belt is optional, but can be beneficial for some children who have a hard time staying in place.

I very much disagree with this. There have been reports of dangers happening even when they know how to hold their head up. My son is two, has low muscle tone due to health issue. For him, I do not believe it's safe for him to be in head slump position.
@countrykidscarseatsafety
@countrykidscarseatsafety 2 месяца назад
That’s a perfectly valid concern when there is a medical need like that to consider, but for a child without any special medical needs that impact things like breathing and muscle control, it’s not a concern after they have good head control. If it were a concern after that age, we would have a ton of data to show that, because so many kids do sleep in the car with their heads in that position it would be happening often, but it simply isn’t because they can and do move their heads if needed, just like adults.

Do you have one on when to switch from convertible car seat to harness booster
@countrykidscarseatsafety
@countrykidscarseatsafety 2 месяца назад
Once a child is ready to forward face (at least age 2 or when rearfacing is outgrown for their convertible or all-in-one seat), the harnessed mode of a “harnessed booster” or “harness to booster” seat is an appropriate choice! There’s no safety difference to the child, a forward facing harness is a forward facing harness, whether it’s on a convertible, all-in-one, or harness-to-booster seat.

@countrykidscarseatsafety

Great question: each loop can be both a router and an anchor at the same time! So each loop can have a tether strap routed through it while also having another seat’s tether strap hooked onto it.
