On the off chance no one reads the description, *any word on the AGI version's blacklist will work.* This mostly includes swear words, misspelled or not, and other vulgarities, but there are some odd ones, too. (I just can't think of any right off hand.) Also. 1:53 - Yay, Madonna~! I've always loved this specific stage act more than the other two. There's just something enchanting about it, and the music is equally mesmerizing.
I KNEW there had to be some kind of cheat in the original. The way Space Quest IV had the slot machine broken and gone when you go back to Space Quest I seemed weird to me. Didn't think it would be THAT kind of cheat though.
You can spend a lot of time gambling in Space Quest 1, Police Quest 1 and Leisure Suit Larry 1 but at least you can save and restore. In Codename: ICEMAN if you save and restore too many times your opponent leaves. Brutal!
This does allow you to go over the max score and the game can handle it. I created a very quick video of this here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qZzPiwnA2eA.html
Oh, so _that's_ how it's done! I tried to do this in a recent Let's Play. It did not go well. But to be fair, I wasn't increasing the game speed _and_ I was playing the New Rising Sun patch, so I just assumed it was fixed. _And, I freaking love Gary Owens' delivery on these narrations. Hee hee._
I will double check that later. I think you actually lose points for putting it back. Get Unstable Ordinance = 25 points Replace Unstable Ordinance = minus 20 points
@@Bluesit32 You can actually gain an extra 20 points doing it this way. Normal Way At the start of the game take the Unstable Ordnance which gives you 25 points. Return the Unstable Ordnance which takes away 20 points. This gives you the standard positive 5 point difference. New Way Do not take the Unstable Ordnance at the start of the game. Go through the sewers, scoop up the slime, and exit. Go West to the ship. Increase game speed. Don't go into landing gear yet but instead go East again. Quickly take the Unstable Ordnance which gives you 25 points. Go West. Enter the landing gear. As you never return the Unstable Ordnance you never lose the 20 points. You now have the Unstable Ordnance and an additional 20 points!
Looks like an oversight. I haven't tried to use the Unstable Ordinance on objects later in the game but I will. Although, I can already hear Gary Owens saying "Don't mess with it!"
You can lose points in a few Sierra games. It can be as simple as trying to do the opposite of what the game expects you to do. The text parser lends itself to this and it was always interesting to see how it would respond to these actions.
Didn't expect these to be hard to come by but again was watching Conquests of the Longbow speedruns and you can go really really fast by taking the Brave Sir Robin route and letting Friar Tuck fix your mess at great point cost
Even after 34 years, I'm still seeing new easter eggs for one of my all-time favorite games. (In this case - throwing the dagger on Julanar's screen towards the 4th wall.) I remember finding Harpo, the 3rd Marx brother, by accident while wandering the streets of Shapeir (the Silly Clown of the game, as it turns out.) Loved this game so much!
I spent a lot of time as a kid exploring Shapeir hoping to find something new that I might have missed! This game does have its flaws such as the time based events and when you are in Raseir, time can really drag if you are not a thief. However, it has an incredible plot, amazing locations and always felt epic to me. One of Sierra's best.
I put SO MANY hours into the Quest for Glory games as a young lad, but especially this one. The ONLY thing I hate about the game is dealing with the city maze. It's the only incredibly unintuitive part of what is otherwise a brilliant game.
I knew a lot of people who loved the first game but gave up on the second game early on because of the maze. A pity because like you say it’s a brilliant game. One way to get the money you need for the map of the maze is to go into the desert straight away and kill a brigand. This should give you the money you need to buy the map before trying to find the money changer.
Definitely! A Quest for Glory game is a big Sierra game to remake with different classes and different solutions to puzzles. A huge effort and very much appreciated.
It's a long way from Space Janitor "Roger Wilco" to "Ryley Robinson," the "Non-Essential Systems Maintenance Chief" of the "Aurora" in the aquatic game, "Subnautica.";)
0:48 You used VGA monkey for the comparison YUUUUCKKK! The real monkey 1 is the EGA version, which would have made the comparison much more fair. Best wishes.
02:56 - I legitimately forgot that Sprint ever partnered with Sierra. I remember CompuServe and Sierra teaming up for that short-loved gaming hub, but Sierra and _Sprint?_ Pretty wild.
I remember the magazine adverts where Sprint allowed you to choose any Sierra game for free if you switched to their long distance service. Then, after six months, you would receive a second Sierra game free if you stayed with Sprint. Sierra had some of the best big boxes for their games too.
Yeah, in King's Quest 5, Nintendo had Sierra, or Konami who ported the game to NES, remove the "Nectar of the Gods" text from the game to remove any religious themes and make it more family-friendly.
I guess after saving Spielburg, liberating Raseir, preventing a war, and banishing the Dark One, the Coles decided that the Hero was finally ready for the big one - drinking the Dragon's Breath!
Heh, I made a mistake the first time I ordered Dragon's Breath when I played as a kid by saving after ordering it and before drinking it... since the game won't let you leave until you drink. Ah, the old unwinnable situation.
When I first played Space Quest 4, I didn't write down the Space Quest 12 code in Time Pod before leaving so I could not return there. In the floppy version, this code is randomly generated so I had to restore all the way back to before I got in the Time Pod. Fun times!
I appreciate the concept behind showing the Time Pod arriving in the Space Quest I VGA remake. It's just a pity that it appears in a different location to where it appeared in Space Quest IV!
@@redshirtveteran5688 You are correct and this also explains some of the differences including the graphics. When Roger leaves Ulence Flats on the ship, I still think it would have been fun if the screen scrolled to the right and the Time Pod appeared in the same location as in SQ4. Just me being picky! The parallel universe concept doesn't require this.
Option 1 5 points - Dropping the rock boulder on Spider Droid 5 points - Using the dehydrated water on the Orat Option 2 10 points - Using the Spider Droid to kill the Orat. Game references this as "That killed two problems with no stones." So it all equals up in the end but nice to have the choice.
Apologies in advance for any offence caused by some of the text inputted in this video! Just trying to show how good Sierra's text parser was at handling some of the typed input / commands a user could throw at it.
