So can you take us through why you are working with this particular dog in this way please?
@dogpause
@dogpause 2 месяца назад
In the video, you don't see all the activity happening off-camera. Jasper, the dog, can react strongly to things that startle or overwhelm him. In this clip, I'm not talking to him because I want him to notice the things happening around us. I've noticed that when I talk to him, his focus is only on me, which for most things is great, but for a dog that can get startled by new things, I want him to look around and see the things going on around us. So, my focus is on using a clicker to mark when he's looking at things and staying calm. If he had become too excited, I would have moved away from the thing that excited him. Here, he did great. He was able to look around at all the things going on and yet stay calm and in conversation with me. It's worth noting that just before this clip, I was crouching down, giving him pets, and talking to him. Right afterward, I also talked with him and let him know how awesome he did.

Thank you, that makes sense now. I guessed that you wanted him to notice what was going on but wondered why you didn't reassure him with your voice. Now I understand. 😊

Were you rewarding staying calm? But I don't know what you're NOT doing.🤔

Awe, Beckett! I loved that experience watching the volunteers see him go from such high energy to focused and calm. To witness in real time how smart he is and how trainable an exuberant dog is with the correct human behaviors. Calm is key. Thank you Dan! I’ve learned so much from you over the years.

How long do they last fresh in a ziplock bag?
@dogpause
@dogpause 6 месяцев назад
Since there's no preservatives in them, they don't last as long as store bought treats. I would definitely recommend storing them in the fridge while not using them.

I've been trying to get my cat to let me trim her nails for about a year. Still the same as when we started. She's 4 years old and I don't know what fresh hell she went thru before she came to me. Your dog is beautiful!!!!

Thank you! Bagheera is a good looking pup for sure! You can get your cat to this point to, it just takes some time a patience.

Thanks for sharing this Dan!! It's honestly encouraging to be reminded that even though we all aim for consistency and management of every situation, there is no perfect dog owner, and the dogs still get trained!!
