I think it's funny that many people get all righteous and offended that Buffy Saint Marie pretended she was an Indian. Like, so what? Who exactly was harmed by this? No one, that's who. If she had been an Indian, they would have LOVED everything she did, which was to promote an Indian image of talent and success and shine a spotlight on Indian issues (like in the above video). It's as though they feel all her actions and activism are negated simply by her not being an Indian. Have you ever heard anything so absurd?
White fans ended up buying more records after watching this increasing her own wealth. How much has she given herself to tribes over the years or was it just activism?

I know that she has been exposed as not Native. But she's a very articulate advocate. I'm impressed at her intelligence. I just wonder how she thought she could go so long without being exposed. I feel sorry for her because she must have had childhood trauma to flock to a different identity.
Agree with lady who said each should be considered full blood. But, at least daughter, who was only getting credit for one quarter rather than half, she should have rights to her full blood quantum. This is important especially for her children.

Don't allow someone you love and have admired for being a wonderful artist and bringing joy to this world because she identifies with Native Americans, whether it is true or not. I don't care if she identifies as a Martian. Don't allow her to be erased as the power that be are manipulating the media to do. She has been adopted for decades now into an indigenous family, and they love her and is part of the indigenous community. If anything, this is a situation for the Native American community to sort out, not anyone else, especially not CBC.

@@merricat3025 We Native Americans have accepted her long ago into our community. That is our decision and no one else's. What she trying to expose here is the attempt by the government to take reserved lands from us, Native Americans, that is the important issue. Don't be fooled and distracted by the "Pretendian" ploy to discredit her and take away her influence.
