Hi Rob I have a 31 ' Steel Tahiti (double ended) ketch in Melbourne. I'm interested in how you've got the pelagic tiller pilot set up as your boat is a double ender too. There doesn't seem to be much room with the tiller in the midship position for the tiller pilot ram to move the tiller to starboard, is this a problem? Also I cant locate a Pelagic distributor in Aus did you buy your direct from pelagic or a distributor in the US? Noting this video is 4 year old have you had any issues with the unit? Cheers David J (Kakula)
I’ve switched to a raymarine evolution now The pelagic worked well as a mechanical unit I wasn’t happy with the algorithm of the software though The set up is std about 700mm from rudder stock along the tiller The throw isn’t long enough though like all tiller pilots, so sail balancing is important. Also as with all tiller pilots I’ve had in heavy weather it’s useless
Rob thank you for tour quick response , and is ok 622mm long, My boat is a 44 ft. Is easy to find coreflute in Europe, but my issue is ti find the balance between measure , weight and size to find the balance with 5he servo pendulum
Hello Rob , I have a Fleming windvane but I can not find the right vane , which material and measures do you use. I did one in 5 mm wood 62 cm per 22 wide and des no work correctly. . Txs
the vane is 6mm coreflute it's pretty hard to find in Australia i've used 8mm and squeezed it in but that was temporary. If you can't find any use 6mm ply and adjust your counterweight to suit.
i beleive this is the same yacht which was owned by an ATC person from NYC...the yacht was kept at Minnieford Yach Yard on City Island, NY...I used to CREW on this boat...wasnt there coffee grinder on the aft deck??
last i heard Phillip was trying to sell fleming self steer and head off cruising. He imported the 6mm polycarbonate flute board to make the vanes. I made a few with some 8mm flute board and crushed them in. they worked but we're hard to get on and off. I have a couple of spares on board to see me right for a while but when they're gone I will make some from 6mm ply and adjust the counterweight to suit.
My yacht is moored at the seaport. Suffice to say, I have since upgraded my mooring lines after seeing about 10kts of water moving under him last month while standing still.
What weather app are you using there around a minute in? If you ever cross again, and you want some help with ballast/watch, let me know. I'm keen to do a strait crossing with someone experienced.
