When would i use a parallel edge instead of a drafting arm, and vise versa?

I was taught to draw the vertical lines like you do on the edge opposite your drawing hand. Do you know why this is important?

Hi .. I would award a high marks on the technicality of the process of constructing the perspective overall. The weakest point hare as many instructions for perspectives is 'faint' drawing up of 'construction-lines' .. it is on these 'construction-lines' that the 'finished-lines' are drawn on. tQ nonetheless.
