We have said it before, and we will say it again: ABBY JIMENEZ SUPREMACY! I am so with you on the ML dilemma because there are so many popular romances or books in general with that 'alpha' overly misogynistic ML that I almost always don't find too appealing (of course with some exceptions) and so Abby Jimenez is just serving the beautiful amazing male leads consistently we are eating so well! 🥰 I REALLY want to get into more work by S. A. Chakraborty because I've heard nothing but good things but I keep putting it off! This may be my push to get into City of Brass! I've also been a quarter into the third book in The Raven Cycle for like TWO YEARS now because I just don't want it to end, but maybe I'll finally bring myself to finish it! And lastly, you're so real for the special edition comment because I literally cancelled any book subscription box I had and stopped buying special editions because I don't want to be dropping like 70 Australian dollars on a book that I might not even like!!! it's madness!
Abby is feeding us so well lmao but the girls that I follow were not lying about S.A Chakraborty so I wish you the best reading experience when you start that series! For the raven cycle tho, i feel that lol just know those characters will never leave you even if you finish the series. And for the special editions, I've learned my lesson haha my philosophy might change when I have more disposable income but for now I'm not letting those pretty edges and covers fool me!!
@@ozisorbit I'm so keen now i just put city of brass on hold at my library! YES you get it like even though i haven't been reading the series I feel like the characters are walking around and interacting in my brain like they were so fully fleshed out and characterised that they already feel so complete! That is so true like I now own THE WORST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ on my shelf because i got it in a book box, HATED it, but the sunk cost fallacy of spending that much on a book hasn't let me unhaul it yet 😭 never again!
okay fiiine, you have convinced me to read the Poppy War series. I looove platonic relationship stories! I never heard anyone mention this before This is my first video I have watched from you but I feel like you have good taste. Do you have a favorite Abby Jimenez book? I have not read anything by her yet 23:31 💀 "okay thats a lie" LOL
@@brooklinslibrary yay, I hope you enjoy it! I know what I like in books but idk if I’d call that good taste lol I sometimes forget that a lot impacts how much you like or dislike a book but I try my best to recommend what I’ve enjoyed cuz I want ppl to enjoy them too! For Abby Jimenez tho, I would start with part of your world since that’s the first book in her interconnected series and if you like that, you’ll enjoy the rest of the series (yours truly, just for the summer) ❤️
ashes of the sun officially added onto my tbr! and a tempest of tea was such a let down for me too, it just felt like everything was there for no reason.
Yay your first lightstick 😁 I'm not as into kpop anymore but I randomly check out some songs still, mostly girl groups 😂 what are your favourite groups?
@@_jasmine_flower kiss of life and aespa fs!! I don’t really follow up with other groups anymore lol cuz it’s ALOT sometimes but who did you use to listen to?
Oh I loved Spicy and Drama last year, aespa had an amazing 2023!! I've been following kiss of life too, and newjeans 😊 I started off with BTS in 2016/17 I think, then got into DAY6. Those were my fave groups but I also liked red velvet, NCT, itzy (mostly their personalities over the music 😂), twice, ateez, txt... But now I just watch a few music videos here and there 😁 wbu though, when did you get into kpop/what groups did you start with?
@@_jasmine_flower 2023 was most certainly Aespa’s year!! I love their personalities too lol I got into it in 2019 with the one and only BTS lmao but over the past 2 years I’ve been removing myself from some fandoms cuz they are SO toxic for no reason
@@StarLitLibrary isn’t he just the cutest?!! and I’ve heard so much about haikyuu and yuri on ice that I’ve unintentionally kinda avoided them lol might go back and watch them one day tho
if you pick up any of these, please let it be red rising 😭 i just finished shadow of the gods, definitely is a slow start because each character is setting up for their own adventures, but i loved the characters and their ruthlessness
I have not read Evan Winters. I've just heard that the main character is not very fleshed out and is all about revenge, revenge, revenge. And the typical "someone murdered my wife so I'm going to kill everyone" which is not bad in itself, it's just that I've seen that used so often by male authors and I'm tired of seeing women's suffering used as a device for the male character and/or plot to move forward. It's why I dnfed The Greatcoats series by Sebastian De Castell.
I've read the Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin and I ADORE them. They will break your heart though. I've also read almost all of Robin Hobb except for the last trilogy because I know it's going to be painful and I need to be in the proper headspace for that lmao. I have the first three books in the Red Rising Saga and have not read it because I've heard there is fridging in the series and that irritates me to no end. But I'm still interested because I love Sci-Fi even though I haven't read enough of the genre. I have the entirety of the Rook and Rose trilogy and I am also super daunted by them lmao. Hopefully we can get them read soon. Im not interested in John Gwynn
Thanks for the shout out! And being willing to listen to us roast even books you like. Also as the guy who does the thumbnails for our channel, your thumbnail game is on point. --Will
Some recs: The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna -> super cozy cute fantasy/romance Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi -> gothic fantasy, magical realism, fairytale retelling Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse -> fantasy set in pre-columbian world, very interesting concept Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia -> this one may be more YA but any of her novels are excellent creepy fantasy gothic novels Blood over Bright Haven by M.L Wang -> Another M.L Wang book with a lot of hype, a sci fi academic magical tale
YES EVAN WINTERS <3333333!!! Literally idk why you don't give Rage of Dragons a chance bc it has everything you like in it LOL but you'll get to it when you get to it
I wish I could vouch for books but I still mainly read ya fantasy... However, I have some adult books on my tbr! I'll share some I'm very eager to try out just in case a few of them are new to you :)) I tagged them with their storygraph tags The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa - science fiction, dystopian, literary The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa - magical realism Monstress by Marjorie Liu (series) - science fiction, graphic novel How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu - science fiction, dystopian, literary To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose - fantasy Upcoming Releases: Saints of Storm and Sorrow by Gabriella Buba - fantasy (6/24/2024) These Deathless Shores by P.H. Low - fantasy (7/9/2024)
I've had Parable of the Sower on my TBR forever and I think this is finally my push to actually get it read!! I've also heard amazing things about pretty much ALL of these (recently Fonda Lee has been popping off on my timeline again so Jade City is creeping up my TBR too) so I think this is the video I'm going to come back to everytime I forget all the amazing books I want to read!! 🥰
Parable of the sower was such a moving read but it could lowkey make you nihilistic if you’re not careful lol I will always give Fonda Lee her flowers so if you do read jade city, you gotta let me know what you thought! I hope you find your next 5 star from the books mentioned ☺️
@@ozisorbit so valid haha! but i see it as if i'm already getting traumatized by other anime (COUGH COUGH JJK season 2 which i've been avoiding watching because i've seen the clips), what's one more gonna do to me?? 😂
@@RebeccaHaeshen ok when you put it that way, I understand haha also, jjk season 2 is a disastrous time but entertaining as hell!! You’ll come around to it, I feel it
I've only just started getting into anime the last 2 years, but some of my favorites are Akame Ga Kill, Soul Eater, and One Piece. I also liked Love Is War and Komi Can't Communicate.
thank you for reviewing this book!i’ve been looking everywhere for people to review this, it’s been hard to find books that aren’t extremely mainstream. im so excited to read it, you’re phenomenal! 🌟🌟
Hi! OMG THIS WAS SO NICE! I'm also really glad to see D Fretter getting love because that dude is such a gem Funny story: this is very serendipitous because Carlos and I are going to be doing reviews of all of the Ember books starting next month. Your wish is my command!
Hello!! Absolutely love your channel and thanks again for shouting him out cuz I don’t think I would’ve found his channel if you didn’t!! and YAYYY, can’t wait for the ember videos ❤️
