Carlos, Thank you for what you do! I know these aren't an easy thing to put together. But thank you for creating a space to let people talk and share their stories. I just want you to know you're a legend! Don't doubt yourself or your work! You are doing a great job! Honestly. The product you are creating is continuing to be better and better. Thank you! Love watching what you are doing. Hopefully we can meet and maybe even work together someday! Well done!

DP here and am 29 yrs old, travel a couple times a month and have a wife with 2 children. Wouldn't trade it for anything. The reality for me was freelancing with children is doable if you have a supportive family. Parents are extremely helpful. Its actually made me better with time management. When I'm working I'm locked in and when I'm not working im spend time with my kids and wife. The challenging part is that stuff always comes up. If it's a last minute shoot them as long as its not a major thing we adjust so I can take the job. The hardest part is when you work from home but the resolution is to work while the family is sleeping lol. Grandparents are definitely important during the week when you need a break. It's hard but doable with a supportive family. Sorry for any typos

Looking at other forms of art, be it sculpture, painting, architecture, performance all feeds the storytelling engine because art is the documentation of thought in its place and time. Art is a multilayered 4D pattern flow and there is so much to glean, inform and apply! Studying art and looking and experiencing other various forms of it helps us to emotionally tune our senses and create mental reference points which allows for relationships and connections to form and take root. Like how he was talking about architecture and going from “darkness to light” in a space. He obtained a deeper connection and is now able to apply that in his work. The problem with current media is it’s a mirror looking at itself to infinity but not gaining new understanding. Social media trains us to look at each other who are looking at each other which creates an infinity mirror and it’s shallow.

Something I heard Dean Cundey say is shoot as much and as often as you can regardless of the pay... If you want to be a narrative feature film DP. and this man shot Halloween and Jurassic Park. just sayin.

What a great episode!! Carlo, your questions are always on point. I really hope you'll soon feel that your career is going up to that next level you desire. Patrick comes off as such a genuine guy who is clearly super into what he's doing, and I found his energy infectious and motivating. Love the podcast!

I remember seeing a short film he did with a writer/director called Thea Gaijc back in 2018/2019 and was so impressed with his skin tones and that elevated look that I hadn’t seen from those smaller budget projects and have been constantly inspired by his work since. Still hope I can work with him at some point suppper talented guy.

It's crazy to understand what he means when he's referring to Vimeo during the time before Instagram, I remember seeing his work back then, adding "Essence Man" to my liked videos, watching his growth after all this time is amazing. Awesome choice for an interview.

This was such a great podcast! I work full-time at a Christian church in video production/content creation but also freelance, so I love the part where Mait talks about everything being inter tangled and doing it in a way that points back to Him. I almost fell out my chair when he started talking about the local church LOL! I'm so glad you turned down that project once you knew what it was about. That is definitely conviction! I can leave a book chapter on this podcast, but I'll keep it simple and say THANK YOU for this one..I'm truly inspired and needed this (see, God is moving through what you do). Hope to work with you one day..Stay blessed!

I totally agree with the mental and physical! I’d like to add that general health is such an important part that we often might take for granted. Recently I’ve had to cancel on 2 productions because I got sick, I would be out for weeks at a time, and that takes such a toll on you mentally too. So being and staying healthy is definitely something I’m starting to prioritize a lot more now.

One thing that happens to people who blow up young, sometimes they blow up too early. They haven’t built that decade of work and that can cause problems in the future. Whether that would be future work/bigger jobs that require more skills then that what they have because they never learned through hardships and mistakes of the past. They have skills and you can see their potential but it can lead to being isolated from your peers or imposter syndrome. Short term success can lead to long term failure.

Hi Carlo, First of all, I found the podcast clip with Eric really insightful. However, I wanted to ask you about a short clip you uploaded recently about the benefits of freelancing and why we should be grateful for it. I'm quite sure you posted it, but no matter how long I search, I can't seem to find it. Maybe you could help me out? (I could have sworn it was in my subscription box a few days ago :D ) You're a huge inspiration-thanks for all your content, and I wish you all the best for the future!

Great interview! would love to hear more indepth with specifics on how DP's create looks and "visual language" when prepping for commercials or narrative. I feel like it's always spoken about at such a broad level that it's hard to learn from. How certain camera moves or framing provoke specific feelings. Specific times where director wanted to show (x) so DP decided to do (Y). Love the podcast!

Great Interview, I've been following Eric for years and his work. He is giving some very real insight. I kinda get the feeling that you are (and Eric as well) are high functioning Empaths, and if so, it's all about balancing it all out. It's very common for creatives to be highly empathic, but it takes a lot of work to balance it, be creative, and have consistent peace in your surroundings.
