Great song but in hindsight the premise is completely incorrect. They suppose "the media is owned by a handful of conservatives" which is missing the point entirely. The deep state of this country uses hegelian dialectics, they control both sides. When it's convenient, they lean into whichever side they wish. They hang out around the finish line and lobby the winners. If a real voice of dissent actually manages to get power, for example JFK or Donald Trump, they use every means in their apparatus to destroy that person.
I think you are almost there. Punk is the culture of the working class, and corporate media ideally tries to broadcast the talking points of the ruling class to maintain the status quo. Donald Trump is no way a dissenter in the system, maybe by rhetoric appeal, but not in actuality. Trump weakened the NLRB which has been one of the few institutes to support workers organizing for higher labor standards. Both main parties are two sides of the same coin - we are in agreement there
