Hi Lee. Sorry to bring up an old thread (again lol) you really shouldn’t make addictive videos 😂, but can I ask what kit you used for this? I’ve noticed there are a few variations of this kit out there and some say the UK variation of the model had raised panel lines and not sunk like the US kit? Was it the same kit they used for the ROTJ filming miniatures? Cheers mate, Kris.
Thankyou for taking the time to upload this video. Brilliant advice. I’m hoping to get these for my perfect grade falcon. Can I ask what the best varnish to use over the top of these? Cheers again.
Honestly don't varnish. It really screws with the hues and saturates weathering and staining. That said, if it's decal sealing your looking at, I think Mr Color do a fantastic clearcoat. But I can't remember the last time I used a clearcoat solely for paint work. Hope that helps.
@@fxmodelminiatures3175 Thanks man really appreciate your advice. Will certainly take your advice on the clear coat. Looking for ward to your next upload, Kris.
Fantastic tutorial for us beginners. Taking the plunge into airbrushing and this will be a great tool for me so I don’t cock up anything expensive😅. Where is the best place to get the Styrene the same as you’re using?
@@fxmodelminiatures3175 Thanks mate, really appreciate the advice. Can I ask while your on if I need to use a different airbrush for the priming of a model? I was gifted an Iwata Revolution airbrush from someone and not sure if this is for priming or detailing or both? Kris.
@kristianbooth6262 I don't really prime with an airbrush, as I tend to use automotive primers from the rattle can. But, yes of course, if AB priming is your go to, use the same brush.
Hello, I stated watching your videos. Love studio scale but also love models in general. It appears that Archiv X is sold out of almost every color. Did they do a limited run? I'm in the U.S. but would gladly buy from U.K.
I love the world of Star Wars and more to a whole thing related to scale models of study. Man it's crazy to know that you do all this related to building and painting prototypes and mock-ups.
I just wanted to thank you for posting the videos on the a-wing painting and your other videos. They've encouraged me to actually try and paint one of my Bandai models with my archive X paints. I'm still a beginner.. but your videos give me hope that maybe I can one day make mine look like yours. I know it's going to be a long process ... But at least your videos have been given me the courage to try. Thank you.
Really neat! I’m planning on building this shuttle as a junked salvaged hull that’s been turned into a home on an asteroid colony in 1:12 scale… I don’t think it will have the wings…
Thank you for the pep talk at the end, Lee. I come from the armor building world and this is a whole new animal for me. Got some painting done last night and it turned out ok. I didn’t get much sleep the night before so I wasn’t on my game. I was tired and anxious and probably should’ve just put it off until I was in the right head space. After years of using Tamiya paints I just started using ArchiveX acrylics. I need to take a step back and practice some more on some panels.
@@C2Lawson just been having some down time buddy, bit of burnout but slowly getting back. Hopefully will be able to do some more content soon. Thanks mate.
I can't believe there were people doing this "mystery ship" before EC Henry. For you to know there was no engine detail, you must have seen the real model. Lucky guy!
How did I miss this? Amazing!amazing! amazing! You’ve nailed the BG look and feel perfectly! I can’t believe how clean and precise your work is! It’s robotic!
Heya mate, I'm new to your channel after seeing your name mentioned in a model building page, but a quick question, has this been built from scratch ? or is it a model ? thanks
Just in awe of your styrene work mate!. So crisp & clean & the sheer effort you & Guy have put into this replica is staggering in so short a time in the scheme of things!. Hats tipped as always mate...
This is simply mind boggling. Your scratch work is sublime and dedication to get it accurate to Bill’s is amazing mate. And the fact Ed’s doing a run is brilliant, we’re so lucky to have this offered to us mate
This is one of the best x wing builds I've seen. People seem to over do it with the paneling with too dark washes and then don't airbrush the grey soot properly, but this balances the line perfectly. Colors nice and faded too. I'm just curious, what x wing is this supposed to be? Markings dont indicate red five.
@@fxmodelminiatures3175 Sure! Got the pro shop version coming in the mail, gonna really try to capture the ILM style weathering like this, its gonna be all about being conservative and not trying to perfect or overdo anything practicing on my old mpc kit too: imgur.com/gallery/eMr8F3u
Very nice! While I can understand the frustration with the small Bandai models, many of us don't have access to (or the money for) big studio scale resin kits, so seeing "big boy" techniques and materials used on their little siblings is very handy.
First class job guys! Such a big task ID'ing these models. And love seeing the old school methods to piece together the geometry of the hull using the donors and mockups. Very cool Thanks so much for showing this Lee!
I have a Bandai 1/72 waiting after just finishing the 1/144 Falcon with "modern" techniques (undercoats of panel lines, films, washes, oils etc) and wasn't really satisfied with the results. I have have just started studying studio techniques, so stuff like this is gold.
