The game going back to the start screen with the fire tower and the wind sounds after the credits was such a good choice and really tied the game all together.
You know, I kind of have to refute the claim that Ichiban’s a dumbass that everyone in the game makes. Yes, he’s quick to forgive people who have wronged him. Looking at it on the surface, he forgives things he absolutely shouldn’t. He by all rights shouldn’t forgive Eiji and Chitose for ruining his life. And Tomizawa literally mugged him, I know I’d be hard pressed to forgive there. But if you look at all of Ichiban’s interactions? He’s actually very discerning about who he extends that hand to. Nanba, Tomizawa, Chitose, Eiji, Ryo Aoki, Saeko, and even Yamai to an extent have all wronged him. But these are all the people he extends a hand to. And they all take it. Even the ones who did some repugnant nonsense to him in the case of Chitose and Eiji, and who fought him every leg of the journey in the case of Yamai, every single one of them took the opportunity Ichiban gave them. Kume? Tendo? Bryce? Ichiban extended nothing to them. He knew they were too far gone; he knew their fundamental nature was just ugliness. And he doesn’t go out of his way to save every petty thug in his side stories. This level of discernment shows Ichiban’s emotional intelligence. The fact that literally everyone he extended a hand to took it? Even if they couldn’t see it through (In the case of Aoki), it shows Ichiban has an eye for people. He understands them. He really can see into your soul and know who and what you are. Now where he IS probably a dumbass are the lengths he goes to to redeem someone. But that’s just who Ichiban is. If there’s even the slightest microcosm of a miracle of a chance that you can be redeemed? Ichiban will go to hell and back to make it so. If Ichiban is willing to bet on you? He’s probably not wrong. But if you’re too stuck and set in your ways? He’s got nothing for you.
Here's a cheat for getting around this dilemma: every time you feel the urge to attribute something to an author, instead just attribute it to the work itself. "In MGS2, Kojima is saying X Y and Z" is a statement you can almost never be entirely sure of, but "MGS2 is saying X Y and Z" is a statement of pure interpretation.

The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️
I always thought GLaDOS was testing your ability to break down under pressure and psychological experimentation instead of anything about the portal gun in particular at this point. She seemed to be taking her boss’s idea and turning it into a way she could sadistically torment and kill more people.
Just recently played the game for the first time and i agree there's just not to much time for each character to flesh out their stories. frankly, GTA5 would make a great tv series.
I played some games that were sort of similar to Quake or DOOM, but when I was given Half-Life in my younger years, this game did teach me to actually slow down and use my brain, figure out ways to minimise taking damage, and conserving ammo 'n other things. Even in both easy and normal modes, I died a ton of times but it helped me learn as I went on, and think about using some of the extra weaponry I'd acquire along the way. To this day, I still think about how to tackle situations thrown at me in many other games I play that do require you to stop and think. If I get people who couldn't understand Half-Life, I'm definitely recommending this video to whoever doesn't understand the game. I'll admit, Opposing Force would be one hell of a test when I got my hands on that, considering how much more unforgiving that expansion of Half-Life was.
I went into this video expecting it to be a joke because I didn't know this was a thing. Came out of it and changed in how I view my own life. Very well made video
Happy pride month. And, even though I only know you through your content, I want you to know that I am proud of you. Not only for the great content you consistently produce, but for this in particular. As a cat-person (I know my youtube name is gendered, but these days I've changed, too), I am familiar with the addictive qualities of just being a precious pet and letting someone else take care of me. And I, too, have had to struggle to find that right human/cat balance that allows me to have a meaningful life, in which I can continue to grow. It's tough, and I am so proud of you for continuing to take the hard route. All the easy paths lead down, not up. I hope you (and all y'all in the comments) have a wonderful pride month. <3
epistle 3 was never canon and its so dumb for people to think about it in terms of "this is what ep3 would have been!" there is a reason they did not make ep3. They did not like the script and it never went anywhere so its really nothing but fanfiction. By someone who at some point happened to work at valve.
Interesting. Honestly I'm at a totally different stage in life than Leadhead, but I feel like some of assertions that were made here seem a subtly unhealthy, like there's an implication that in order to be a good human you need to do things. I suppose that this was not the main point of the video, but I feel like holding yourself to standards of what you "should" do to become something or to continue being something just leads to the aforementioned anxiety and stress and the like. In an ideal world, I see each person striving to do the best they can do in the things THEY themselves find matter, and if that's barking, frolicking and eating food, I honestly don't see much wrong in that. That being said, I can see this dissociative angle being taken at a similar level to how perhaps videogames are treated, since they also help us disassociate, but they can in of themselves be good if you are not using them to cope. fair warning: I am a 19yo cis dude
