Amazing! Loved the way Frank directed the band spontaneously while still giving his musicians tons of room for improvisation (ex Tommy Mars at 10:49). Zappa knew how to bring out the best of his teenage rockin' combo and really showcase their talents.
Yes, the 81/82 band was a different beast altogether. The version of 'City Of Tiny Lights' made by this group on YCDTOSA #5 is something else entirely.
Ray white, ladies & gentlemen.. Ray white. Ray white. Ray white. (For the life of me, I can’t remember what song/ album that Frank roll-calls Ray and just keeps repeating his name but it’s absolutely hilarious)
Years ago I was sitting on a patio enjoying some adult beverages and listening to Catholic Girls on headphones and out loud quoted "Hey, she gave me VD" and a rather large gentleman and is presumably girlfriend thought I was talking to them. Needless to say, neither of them were particularly happy with me and my accusations, which took all of us out to the parking lot to sort things out. Oh, man. Good times 😂
@@VideogeekinMD There’s also one from the same period, where Zappa is recording Warren’s over-dubs on ”Canarsie”. His little ”…where everyone looks the same” talk and the electric sitar. It’s no longer available on the ”Vault Pass” page but someone must have downloaded it.
