Welcome to Trash Panda Garage. We're a father and son team of amateur mechanics/fabricators who are trying to build some cool off-road vehicles in our spare time, and have some fun along the way.
@TrashPandaGarage Are these still worth the money for these interesting RoadShock flood pod lights? Despite the 1 year warranty. Are they worth it? Do u recommend them? And are they still working after 2 years?
@@toyotabrony they were a good deal for the price we bought them at, but unfortunately I can’t speak to longevity. We actually sold the vehicle those lights were mounted to a few months after this video was posted.
@@toyotabrony if on sale again i probably would. We have the road shock brand 20” lightbar from HF mounted in the grill of our Nissan Frontier for a few years now and it’s been fine.
@@TrashPandaGarage so even if it’s 1 year. There’s still great. Do u think u can do another review from a different brand that’s underrated, from Walmart. They sell from a company called Alpena. It’s also the same that’s uncommon for buying led off-road lights off the shelf like roadshocks from harbor freight. TrecTec S22 driving led light bar with an accent light. And it’s an SAEJ581 compliant. It’s specifically made for street use and high power mode for off-road. It’s around also $80. Depending on the size. Could u do an another review on that?
@@trekfortruth2841 the one we had installed in our 4cyl Nissan Frontier died, presumably from under-charging by the alternator. I’ve replaced it an Odyssey that I found on sale for relatively cheap. I’ve been doing a better job of trickle charging this new one regularly.
@@TrashPandaGaragethx for the update...my hesitation on upgrading to AGM is based on the same concern. I use a solar charger once a week that charges to 14.4 volts, but my alternator tops out between 14.1 and 14.2.
@@trekfortruth2841 Eventually I plan to put a hood mounted solar panel on the Frontier that will essentially work as a trickle charger of sorts for the starting battery. We have one of those on our Chevy Colorado, which seems to work great.
I think a trailer makes a lot of sense in many situations, based on intended use. Only the tongue weight of the trailer factors into your GVWR, and that high tow rating definitely allows you to pack a lot more weight/gear than what you can carry in the bed of your truck. I get what you're saying. It will of course create some limitations, but everything's a trade-off of some sort. We no longer have the rack and tent and have switched to a different setup on the truck.
It's tight! We haven't had much time to work on the Frontier lately but we'll definitely have some updates on that truck in the future. I'll try add some more shots of how the T/C is mounted and what fitment looks like.
Hi, I just bought this tool for my 2010 corolla S. It has 550 Amp new battery and new alternator. (Both battery and alternator are about 1 month old) on my test it says pass on both but my charging ripple shows 9.99Mv. Is that 9.99Mv too low? Just wonder since it acted completely dead on cold start this morning. Thank you
Hmmm. Score would be dependent on intended use. But I love the 2nd gen Frontiers and that 4.0 is a great motor if you take care of it and address known maintenance issues.
@TrashPandaGarage yes its true. I live in north east pa so my commute is from one mountain to another. About .05 cents per mile cheaper as the buick got about 18.5 mpg over the week and the canyon gets 25.5 mpg same route.
Ok so i supercharged my gmc and the handheld device, sctx4, only allows for the engine tuning, no other adjustment. Would i be safe to use a hypertech to calibrate for the tires and gearing?
It might be best to reach out to Hypertech, but if you're running the same factory transmission I'm guessing it should work just fine for a tire and gearing change?
@TrashPandaGarage Bone stock 6l90e. Yeah I contacted both sct and hypertech. Won't hear back till Monday but I want as many opinions and as much knowledge I can find
Do you have a video showing how and where you installed the radio? I am looking to install one in my 15 Colorado. Your channel is one of the few I have found that has 2nd Gen Colorado builds. Keep up the great work.
They still look pretty darn good, although I haven’t rubbed them against any trees or tree limbs. Yet. I did have a tiny piece peel up on me a little bit on the inner lip (under the hood) because I hit it to hard with a pressure washer, but I think that speaks more to surface prep on that particular area of the fender more than the coating itself.
@@TrashPandaGarage thanks for your thoughts on it and reply. My wife lets me do things to the car, but only once lol... so if I did it and it started to peel off she would throw a fit when I would have to get repaired.
Heh, if I had it all to do over again I might go a different route myself. I like to go shooting and so for me a secure bed cover was a must...nothing you can knife your way thru etc. The big letdown of the Retrax is that while it's fairly secure it's anything but water tight. You end up having to keep a dry bag or whatever to put stuff into. Also the canister if you let things slide around in the bed it'll beat the ever-loving shit out of it. My solution to that was a Pelican 35 liter crossbed box with the rail mounted brackets. That said with the mid height rack getting in/out of it is gonna be a bitch.
Yeah I've had similar observations with the Retrax canister. Mine is definitely showing some light scuffing and scratches from cargo boxes. I also dropped a small 1/4" by accident down into the canister. It was a pain to get out. Thanks for watching!
@@TrashPandaGarage haha the first time twigs and leaves went into there I freaked till I realized ohh shit they actually roll off the top and drop down the back not even into the canister. They end up at the back of the bed.
We ended up selling the Maxxis that we had mounted on wheels after we sold the Amigo. I never actually put any miles on those and I'm still curious as to how they perform. The Yokohama X-ATs have been great in the rocks, but they're also a tad heavier than some of the other A/T and hybrid options out there.
The form gsctor of these lights is sinilsr to thet of the Rigid D-SS Pro. Has anyone tried these for fitment on the HF lights? I just got s warning citation from a stipid California cop with too much time on their hands.
