Hey @idreamofdinghy ALWAYS a pleasure hearing from you!! Yeah I absolutely love these fish... I think probably the most underrated inshore fish there is! Did you ever catch one? so much fun... highly recommend it. That fish was probably around 50 years old. haha Thanks so much for tuning in and the comment. REally appreciate it.

I was just out fishing for black seabass yesterday and saw a guy using one. He let me check it out and I was quite impressed. Thanks for the very informative video
Hey @whitechin57 Thanks so much for tuning in and the comment... yeah You'll see me using this reel in a lot of my videos... Very good rod. The only thing is I just wish it was smoother, I think to lower cost they downgraded the bearings in the reel. I'm actually thinking of servicing the reel and replacing the bearings and see if that helps with gears and smoothness. What did you think about the smoothness of the reel? either way, incredibly good alternative to the shimano trinidad or ocea jigger. (in my opinion).
Thanks so much Christian!! Really appreciate it... YEah this is probably the easiest pack bait and least expensive to catch some really nice carp... Love it... use it all year round. have you ever tried it??
I haven't gone fishing in a minute and had forgotten how to tie the fg knot, this is different to the method I learned before, but infinitely superior. Unlike the other method where you need three hands to tie it, this one is really simple and creates a very neat and strong knot. The video is a little fast so I had to rewatch a few times, and I already knew what I was trying to accomplish, so it wasn't so hard for me, but I can understand some of the other commenters complaints if they're completely new.
THanks so much for watching and the comment @chickenpotpie4045 I really appreciate it!! I completely agree with you, I've tied the FG knot 3 or 4 different ways and this is by far my favorite way to do it. Only need two hands and I can get the line nice a tight when I tied it. As for the video being too fast, I also completely agree... if you want a slower and more in depth video on this method you can also check it out here... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UKf68haLlks.html Thanks again for the watching and the comment! really appreciate it.
I use pint mason jars and never have to recharge with more liquid. At the end of the season I use my vacuum sealer and remove all the air from the jars and this maintains the liquid with zero loss through the long winter. I use pint jars as they are easy to handle, very hard to break, and the sealing factor.
Hey there @vandall0160 that is awesome... I'll have to give that a try one of these days, sounds like it works great... there are also rubbermade tubbaware that comes with a rubber gasket for the lid... I like those too. Great shout!! Thanks so much!!
THanks for watching Phil and the quesion... do you mean how long do I leave the braid on my reel as the main line? I keep braid on my spools for years typically. IF the braid gets frayed in anyway I will cut it away, and when the spool gets low enough to interfere with casting that's when I will change the braid out on my main line. I typically get alllllll my money's worth out of my fishing line!! :) Hope this helps, let me know if I misunderstood the question or if you have any additional questions. Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for the comment and for tuning in... we do use offshore spinning gear as well... these days that spinning gear is super light and holds a ton of line as well. I guess it just really depends on the gear your using and how you are fishing. Thanks again... hope this helps. Glad you enjoyed the video... I do have to say spinning or conventional very few reels are as good as this ocea jigger it is one of my favorite reels by far!!!
Honestly I went back to carrying an ultra light setup with me. Sometimes targeting bass and larger fish in my area is tough. Nothing like hooking up some crappie and blue gill back to back. I shelled up money for a decent ultralight setup to enjoy. Will try that st croix pan fish rod one of these days!
Hey @tgsn_ sorry for the delay... that's awesome news... I'm just like you. I carry my ultralight gear with me everywhere now a days. I use it to catch my bait, I use it on big fish, I use it for small fish. It literally catches everything!! That st croix panfish series rod is just incredible definitely work the extra money, and the sensitivity of the rod is just phenominal... let me know if you ever take the plunge and pick one up. you won't be disappointed I'm sure ;)
Hello Johnny. New to the channel. I ordered gulp from a tackle store online and received some paddle tails but the container was marked " Freshwater". Didn't want to bother sending them back so I used them for Blues and Striped bass in the salt. They worked great. Do you know if there's any difference in the juice and can I mix them in a container?
Hey @bobbyk3469 SO SORRY For the delay, work has been crazy... So glad you found the channel... welcome aboard. Promise, I usually get back to folks a little quicker... To answer your question, no, I don't believe there is any difference in the juice and I also use gulp in both fresh and saltwater and it works equally as great. Furthermore, I actually do put both fresh water and salt water lures together in the same juice and they work great... I see no difference in the juice used for salt or fresh water. The only difference between the freshwater and saltwater gulp is the marketing from gulp itself... I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. thanks so much!!
@@Johnnyfishalot Thanks for getting back to me. I just subscribed to watch more of your content. I tried a large peanut butter container, but found that it leaks if inverted. I did find air tight food savers at Marshall's (a discount home goods store in NY). They are made form thick hard plastic, witha pressure seal top and come in different sizes. Best part?....$2.99 !
@@bobbyk3469 yeahhhhhh there ya go!!! Thanks so much for the sub! Another good one is in super markets they have those Rubbermaid tubbaware things with a rubber gasket in them... those are really good too! Let me know if you have any questions...
THanks so much for watching and the comment... I 100% agree... this is a go to knot for me as well... its like an extension of you main line which just makes it so easy to bring through the guides of the rod and not damage anything... Thanks again for watching. Hope you had a great week!!!
I can't seem to find the Okuma in anything but a two-piece rod. Is that what you are using? I don't see a product link for these rods. Loved the video and I appreciate the differing perspectives. I am a novice but super fast does not seem to be the best tool for a "paper mouth" fish!
Hey @rickr9055... my apologies for not including the links... I will definitely work to update the rest of my videos. Thanks for tuning in and leaving your comment. I love hearing from you guys!! Yes, I do use the two piece. I'm normally not a fan of the two piece rods, but with the Celilo I haven't noticed a difference in 1 piece vs 2 piece, the graphite is still very sensitive. The link you are looking for is right here (sorry about that): amzn.to/3wKyjVh This will bring you to an amazon page with multiple length rods. For bank fishing I'd recommend the 5'6" or 6'6" (depending on the overhangs, and coverage your fishing under) for kids I'd recommend the 5' rod, its easier for them to handle. If you are interested in the other gear I cover in the videos these are some of the links to the reels and other rods I discuss in this video and other ultralight videos on the channel. @@rickr9055 NIceeeee well done!!! That is an absolute fantastic rod!! let me know how you like it!! I think its definitely worth the money! Good for you ;) Tight lines. What are you fishing for if you don't mind me asking. ;)
Serious question, wouldn’t a fast action be better for finesse fishing. It seems to me you don’t have as much control over a lure with a moderate action
Thanks so much @911life5... Great question! Thanks for tuning in and leaving a comment I really appreciate it. I don't believe you loose any control with a moderate action rod and finesse fishing with ultralight. Keep in mind you are throwing really light lures and using really light gear with these fish. It doesn't take much action at all to move an ultralight lure through the water column. A lot of times the mistake people make is they use fast and extra fast action rods and smallest movement of the rod will cause a very erratic action of the lure... Sometimes you can get away with it, sure, but a lot of times, especially with finesse fishing you need a lot more subtle movements of the lure underwater and that is where you can really benefit from a moderate action rod. sharper movements of the rod will less erratically move your lures to trigger more bites... I would argue you actually have much more control with a moderate action rod for finesse fishing and ultralight... does not make sense? Hopefully that helps. I really prefer the moderate action rods for both control over the finesse lures AND for setting the hook. extra fast action rods will actually rip hooks out of the fish's mouth, there's just not much give to those extra fast action rods. Sorry for the long answer, but I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks so much for the question and comment.
Very clear instructions with the camera close up and wording kept short and to the point. And a great advantage of using YT short videos is that we can repeat often until we grasp the method.
Thanks awesome! Thanks so much for the comment and for tuning in... Really appreciate the kind words and I'm so glad you found the video helpful... comment like this make my day... Thanks again!
THanks so much for watching and the great comment... I honestly have no idea how to save a video from youtube, BUTTTT you can ask me questions anytime you like... thanks so much again. I also have more knot tying videos on my channel, @johnnyfishalot... Check em out and let me know what you think... thanks again.
hahahahaha "the grape lady sound"????? I do make some aweful sounds when I lose big fish... that's for sure... Watching that video and editing the video was also pretty painful... haha
i use the alberto for very fine flouro where the fg seems to mangle the knot every time i really cinch it down. i don't care for how the knot goes through the guides. the tag is exposed on the way out of the guides when you cast. i may experiment with putting some glue down.
Hey @peter-zg3em... you are 100% correct... The alberto knot is not the best for going through the guides... since you have to fold over the mono or the fluoro then attach the braid it is one of the bulkier line to line connection knots... Really the best/strongest knot for this is the FG or PR knot, butttttt if you don't like those knots, which is perfectly up to personal preference, you may want to try the double uni knot... that will at least be lower in diameter than the albert (though not as low as the FG), but much easier to tie than the FG knot... Let me know how it goes... thanks so much for the comment and for tuning in!!
Thanks Johnny for your videos on ultralight rods and reels and which you should buy and save some money. I do not do a lot of ultralight fishing, with your tips i am going to do more. Thanks again
Hey David!! What an awesome comment!! Thanks so much for sharing... I really appreciate that. Comments like that really make my day!! Ultra light fishing really is a ton of fun! Let me know how you like it and if you need any assistance with anything. I'm always here to help. thanks so much again for the comment!
Hey @1664smudge thanks so much for tuning in and the comment... Yeah I agree with you and the other comments I did go a little fast, Im going to make a second short and have it a little clearer... You are correct btw the alternating half hitches I do believe become a clove hitch. Thanks again for watching! really appreciate it! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.
Hi Ray!!! Thanks so much for tuning in and the comment... Ugh that's the worst when you lose a big fish because of a knot malfunction... I do like the double unit knot as well, both knots are great in my opinion. Sorry for the delay in response, was a busy week. Hope you were able to get out fishing this weekend!!
