I see "Advice" as a continuation of the themes within Taemin's Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids," "Criminal" and "Idea." With "Criminal" and "Idea," Taemin talks about being involved in a toxic relationship -- not necessarily a romantic relationship, but a metaphor for his relationship with fame -- in which he agrees to be manipulated almost to the point of being destroyed in order to become the artist we see today. But in the end of "Idea" we see him become free from the box everyone wants to put him in and he comes to terms with his role as an idol. He has now formed his own "Idea" about himself and what it means to be an idol, etc. As Taemin explained during his VLive event for "Advice", "Advice" is like the end to the first chapter in his life, and the beginning of his second chapter, which will be after he completes his military service. (He enlisted May 30 and he will be on hiatus for the next 18 months as he fulfills his duty to his country.) The song seems to be his way of saying I am done caring to everyone who judged him and all those haters who spread rumors and misinformation about him. "Advice" is showing that he is now free and confident to be himself, breaking stereotypes and now only listening to himself. Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two performers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends. And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on Taemin by his peers and the industry as a whole. In "Advice" he's basically saying, "Stop trying to put me in a box, in which I'll never fit in." He is also speaking to everyone that says he's getting old, that he's just a Michael Jackson wannabe that doesn't sell a lot of albums because he tries too hard to be edgy, etc. He's rebelling against all those people who are constantly advising him to make more mainstream music or to follow the traditional Kpop idol style in order to boost his sales and his popularity. However, as Taemin is making clear in "Advice," that is not who he is and he will never be "normal" or "mainstream" and he is OK with that. In the scenes where you see him covered in ink, I think that is supposed to be him showing everyone how he is no longer the "unstained," cute maknae everyone wants to think of him as. This song was specifically designed to not be like anything he has ever done before. He plays the piano, he raps, he shows off his falsetto notes, etc. which is different than what we often hear and see from him. He intentionally used this song to prove that he isn't one type of singer. People often think of Taemin as a sultry vocalist that sings in a breathy comfortable less dynamic style. So, with this song he wants to prove to everyone that he can be unpredictable and try new things. Yet again, you can't put him in a box or tell him who to be. Everything you see in this MV is 100% Taemin. Everything that Taemin's haters like to point out about him and say are reasons why he shouldn't be held to such high esteem, I find completely ridiculous. I don't think that anyone who actually knows him would ever say he has played it safe at anytime in his career. If you think he is only one dimensional, and that he is trying to be anything other than himself, then you really don't know Taemin. Everything he does is different, out there and definitely not safe. It's always uniquely Taemin, and he couldn't do it any other way. Also, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, none of his songs are ever like anything you have every heard or seen before from him. It will always have a new beat, style and sound. As SM's experimental boy group, SHINee is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend, and that includes the members' solo work. With every new song Taemin produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from him in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, it still will be uniquely Taemin-like. Which is another example of how you can never put him in a box or expect anything from him. :D Another theme in "Advice" is about how Taemin is embracing his androgynous side -- but on his own terms -- which I think is a continuation of the message in his "Move" MV. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look. The industry thought it was novel and cute to dress Taemin up as a girl and play up his feminine features. It took him a long time to accept that he was known for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career he is making a statement about how he has decided to be himself and no longer care what people think. Music is art and art has no gender. So, that is why in "Advice" you see him wearing hair extensions, fishnets and women's Supreme sports wear, etc. But if you notice, his choreography is very fast paced and sharp, which is hyper masculine -- a complete contrast to the "feminine" image people want to give him. You also see him wearing makeup, but it's smeared on his face, as if to say, "people may think of me as a 'Pretty Boy,' but I don't care about looking pretty." In the lyrics he is saying, "It's creepy how people are always looking to cause drama, so stop trying to create scandals in my life that don't really exist. It's all just stories you make up." He's tired of all those people who seem to look for reasons to cause drama, where none really exists. Where he says "floppy" in the lyrics, I think he's talking about knowing about or hearing firsthand the things people are saying about him, but he is choosing not to pay attention to them because what they're saying is flopping or doesn't hold any weight or have any substance, etc. "Advice" just proves that everytime people try to put Taemin in a box he destroys it and keeps coming back with something more unique and never seen before. I interpret the "One (piece of ) Advice" he is talking about in the lyrics as a reference to the advice he keeps being given about being more mainstream, but he's saying, "stop trying to make me conform to the image you have in your head of who I should be and what I should do" -- in other words, take all that time and effort you have been using to come up with ways to talk about how I don't fit in, etc. and put it to better use. "Follow my own advice" and do something original for once. As a devout Catholic, Taemin often uses Biblical references and metaphors in his songs and MVs. And the crucifixion pose at the end of "Advice" is sort of a signature pose for him. I interpret it to be like he is saying, "And that is the end, this is my final word, take it or leave it, but don't doubt me. I have gave it my all and laid everything I had out there for you," etc. If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing in this MV, just wait until you see him dance live. You will be even more blown away. As I said, Taemin is on a whole other level. Taemin's choreography is very much influenced by him. Although he has input in almost everything he does, he has choreographers that come up with the choreography for most of his dances and he then infuses it with his own ideas and style and makes it uniquely his. The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. If you watch Taemin dance more, you will see that no matter who choreographs the dance, it will always have that Taemin feel. Taemin's style of dance can't be defined. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. Over the years, as you see with "Advice," he has infused those popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him. And, as the youngest member of SHINee, Taemin's talents are one reason why SHINee are one of the top groups in the industry and why they have such legendary status. SHINee is made up of some of the absolute best singers, dancers and performers in the entire industry. With 13 years since their debut, they still command one of the top spots. When Taemin debuted in 2008 as part of SHINee he was only 14 years old and, yet, he was already known as one of the best dancers in the industry, and he has only gotten more magnificent over the years. Now after more than a decade, Taemin is still one of the youngest in many Kpop circles -- he is only 28 -- and, yet, he often has the most seniority and experience. He is so well respected that everyone looks up to him. And not only is he an amazing dancer, but he can dance this intensely while singing live the whole time. If you were to see Taemin perform this song live you would see that it's even more impressive live because he is able to maintain stable vocals without holding back on any of this dance moves, and if anything performing even more fiercely.

SHINee's voices and vocal abilities have changed because you literally saw them go from teeneagers in 2008 with "Replay" to adults in 2015 with "Excuse Me Miss". Plus "Replay was a music video, where "Sherlock" was a TV show and "Excuse Me Miss" was a clip from their official DVD from a concert. They are completely different things with different quality standards. (They didn't debut without having vocal training, they have just gained experience and understanding of how to use their voices over time.) That is why SM is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry because ALL of their artists get intense vocal training. SM is known for having some of the absolute best singers and dancers in the entire industry. Even their rappers can fill in for the main vocalists in any of SM's groups. And SHINee are amazing vocalists, so much so that even as rookies, Jonghyun and Onew were vocal coaches and mentors to a lot of other SM trainees.

"Excuse Me Miss" was from SHINee's SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul in 2015. However, I think the song was originally released in 2013. And yep, still timeless. This is the concert where the majority of SHINee's best live performances are from. If you watch this full set or, even the full concert, you will see why Jonghyun goes into that phone booth at the end. (Each of them are going to their own phone booth on stage.) They are about to perform their next song, "One minute back." And you also really need to see their performance of "Close the Door," Which they performed right before "Excuse Me Miss." Fun fact: This is an extended version of the song. If you pay attention, right before Jonghyun, "went off vocally" what he said in English is, "This is a new bridge, listen." Yes, this concert was part of an official word tour where SHINee traveled to dozens of cities all over the world for more than a month. And this video is one clip from more than 3 hours of an official DVD of this whole concert. Kpop companies usually film their concerts once or twice during a tour in order to create DVD versions for fans as part of the official merchandise that fans can purchase. You can still purchase DVDs of this concert today. As you heard, SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers for a reason. :D As you may know, SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography like this. SHINee live is like none other, and their stages are some of the best in the industry. Their concerts last 3 to 4 hours straight and they perform nonstop and never sound out of tune or out of breath. They are also one of the best dancers in Kpop and they have some of the best harmonies you will ever hear. EVERY time SHINee performs a song it will be different than what you have experienced before. That is why SHINee are one of the best performers in the industry. SHINee live is just as good the 100th time you see them perform a song as they are the first time you see it because they always make it unique. You never get tired of their songs because they know how to make it seem like a whole new experience every time. SHINee literally set the standard when it comes to live performances. It is actually known as the SHINee standard and it's what all other groups strive to reach. SHINee are Idol's Idols and legends among legends for a reason. They are one of the groups that pretty much made Kpop what it is today. Someone has reuploaded the whole concert DVD of SHINee World Concert IV in Seoul -- the whole 3+ hours -- and it even has English subs for all the parts where they interact with the audience, right in the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6TknOLesUc4.html It really feels like you are right there at this concert. You should watch this whole concert, even if you can't react to the full thing -- watch it on your own sometime. :D You really can't fully grasp just how magnificent of performers SHINee are until you watch a full concert from beginning to end and see what makes a SHINee concert so unique.

Fun fact: "Sherlock" is a special song that combines 2 songs from SHINee's album "Clue" and "Note." That's why the title of this performance is called "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" If you were to listen to the album you would see that they are two separate songs, but when combined they become "Sherlock." So, what you heard was a mashup of the two songs. (Just like with SuperM's song "One (Monster & Infinity)") Yet again, SHINee are the first to create a hit song by combining two songs to create a whole new genera. This comeback stage performance was from 2013.
@milindawilson9175
@milindawilson9175 2 года назад
Just curious, why you chose to show her a comeback stage performance of "Sherlock (Clue and Note)"? SHINee's concert performance are 300 times better and official concert videos, such as SHINee's performance of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" from their SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul, are far less likely to cause you copyright issues. Comeback stages are just not safe to react to. And as a Shawol, you should know that SHINee's concerts are far superior to anything else SHINee does. Just a friendly warning: Be careful reacting to these network TV production comeback performances. Especially MNet performances. TV networks, and MNet in particular, have a tendency to be hypersensitive about copyright and will often give you strikes easily. The copyright for comeback videos are owned by the network TV company and they very rarely allow their videos to be used outside of their releases of the performance. I have witnessed many RU-vid channels get taken down really quickly for doing too many reactions to comeback stages without being super careful about how they post the video and audio. Just a warning. However, when it comes to Kpop groups, you're better off sticking to their official DVD concert videos or dance practice videos instead. Concert videos are usually pretty safe to react to. Besides, you really need to see the concert versions of most songs. Most of the time concert performances are always better than any other version you will see of the song, including their MVs, especially SHINee's live performances. You will be blown away.

SHINee's "Replay" isn't just nostalgic, it's legendary. And SHINee are legends. Every new rookie group in the industry has covered "Replay" at least once in their career and it's one of those songs that is pretty much compulsory for everyone to know and learn, even still today. The Noona (the older girl SHINee have a crush on that they are singing to) in the "Replay" MV is the leader of their sister group***, Victoria from F(x). This MV came out more than a year before F(X) debuted so this was Victoria even before debut. (Funny thing is, Victoria is native Chinese and she says she was still learning Korean during this time and she could barely even say SHINee.) Victoria was so perfect in this role because she is a few years older than any of the SHINee members so she fit well as the lead actress in this MV. As the song says, 'Noona neomu yeppeo .... replay, replay, replay ...." In other words they are saying "pretty older woman I really like you and I think you like me too ... every time I see you I need a replay of the moment over and over again in my head." Noona neomu yeppeo is a Korean term that essentially means "Pretty older woman" Noona neomu yeppeo is a term that is only used by guys to describe a beautiful woman that is older than them. There really isn't a literal translation of the term so that is why the song is called "Replay" in English. But in Korean it is called "Noona neomu yeppeo." That's why if you watch SHINee on a lot of variety shows and TV programs, the older women in the show often ask SHINee to sing this song to them. ***** SHINee and F(x) are both SM Entertainment groups, they debuted within a year of each other, they both are 5 member groups (Now 4 member groups ;( ) and they have similar music styles and concepts, etc. F(x) is pretty much the female version of SHINee. "Replay" is literally considered one of the best debut songs of all time for any Kpop artist because it's so timeless and it never goes out of style or sounds outdated no matter how old it gets. And this is why SHINee are Icons. This song makes all the women swoon. You just witnessed baby SHINee and were already blown away, just imagine what it will be like as you go through their discography and MVs. They have 13 full-length albums (7 Korean albums and 6 Japanese albums), several repackaged albums, a multitude of mini albums, numerous OSTS, they each have solo songs and albums and there are hundreds of live performances that will absolutely leave you speechless with their talent. And it only gets more and more impressive as you follow them through their career. They have accomplished a lot in the past 13+ years and they are one of the groups that made Kpop what it is today. SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups as trendsetters. This song was way ahead of its time when it first came out. SHINee are known for never being afraid to experiment with their style and sound in a song and for the fact that no two songs of theirs will ever be the same even on the same album. SHINee are always setting trends, never following them. As SM's experimental boy group, nothing you hear from SHINee will ever sound the same, and, yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. So this shows just how talented even as teenagers SHINee were. If you want to see where SHINee truly shines you have to watch their live concert performances. Fun fact: SM originally wanted to make SHINee a hip-hop group. Hip-hop was the style of music that was really popular when they debuted. That's why Key and Minho are both rappers and how Taemin started out as a popper in dance. But as Key tells it, they just didn't have the swag to pull of hip-hop, so SM switched up their sound and style to something that fit them better and they came up with the signature classic SHINee R&B vocals they are now known for. I, for one, am so glad they debuted with their signature R&B style instead of hip-hop. I can't imagine the world if we never knew the amazing vocals and sound that is SHINee today. Things would be so different. So SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and yet the members are younger than most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than some members of groups who came after them, such as EXO and BTS, etc., which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans. It just goes to show you why they are legends in the industry. When SHINee debuted Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14, so now they are all in their late 20s and early 30s. (Onew turned 31 last December.) SHINee are some of the most well respected artists in the industry. Onew (Pronounced Oh-New, real name Lee JinKi) -- the one in the hat -- is the leader of the group and he has one of the most unique and best voices in the industry. (Onew means, or sounds like, the Korean words for soft or gentle, so he was given his stage name because he has a very calm and gentle personality.) His vocals are unmatched. He even holds the record (40+ seconds) for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch, etc. Jonghyun -- the one with the headphones who you see first -- is known as one of the best vocalist in Kpop who was one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. Jonghyun wrote and composed almost 40% of SHINee's songs, plus he wrote all of his own solo songs and numerous songs for other artists, such as EXO's "Playboy" and songs for Taemin, IU and Lee HI, etc. He was one of the only SM artists to be given complete artistic control over his work, including several of SHINee's song selections. SM knew that if Jonghyun was involved in any way that the song would be a hit. He was extremely respected within the industry as a songwriter, composer and singer. He was one of the very first Idols to be known for this songwriting and composing skills, and he was the first of SM's artists to have a fully self-wrote album. As the main vocalist, Jonghyun is the one you hear with all the amazing high notes and R&B runs and ad libs most of the time. Key -- the one in green -- is our fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. SHINee are known for setting trends and never being afraid to experiment with their sound or look, so Key is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. He is known for always being unique and wanting to stand out. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. He is also known as SHINee's dance copy machine. Key has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized. He is also SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. Minho -- the one playing basketball -- is the main rapper and visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. Minho is one of the top actors in the industry and he has starred in numerous dramas and movies. Minho is also known as a top athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out just because he likes to work out, but he is also crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, etc., as well. And not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field and he pretty much wins every time. There is a reason why Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma," and one reason is for his intense passion for sports and his need to always win. And, as you may know, Taemin -- the one in yellow -- is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry, and that's not just by fans but by everyone in the industry, including his peers. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson. As you can see by their "Replay" MV, even at 14, Taemin was one of the best dancers in the industry, and you will soon discover with the more that you watch from SHINee and Taemin's solo work, that he has only gotten more magnificent over the years. Taemin is also one of the most popular solo artists in the industry and he is a member of the Kpop supergroup SuperM. Taemin truly is art when it comes to his performances. SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. Once you get to know their voices you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. As a SHINee World -- what SHINee's fans are known as -- or Shawol for short (pronounced like shy-wall), I can tell who is speaking or singing within 1 second even with my eyes closed with them standing in a crowd of screaming fans. Each of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop".

I see a lot of people saying this wasn’t a good song to show her but this video is NOT a vocal commentary; it is just us showing her what we enjoy listening too and whatever she picks up on is what she picks up on. The entire year me and Mrs.Heuer have talked about Kpop and she said she wanted to see more so I just wanted to show her this one because at the time this was all I was listening to constantly. Sorry if you guys are dissatisfied but this was never a vocal commentary… it was a REACTION. -Akili Also at this moment I am trying to find ways to reach out to her for more videos because I am currently out of school (summer break) and wouldn’t want to disturb her personal life.

I would love to see your teacher reacting to more SHINee! There is Marry You Live from their latest album ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GG9hPKwmeYo.html And each member's live solo... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zpxQFBSxPX8.html I think anything from their SHINee youtube channel won't have copyright issues. I see a lot of reactors using it without problems. There is also IU's palette! It's is a great episode and their "Dear Name" cover is the best! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2LnCaecCDd0.html For Jonghyun's, I don't know about the copyright issues, but you have to show her this 2 performances for his stage presence alone: Crazy in Tokyo Dome ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IPOldqNcI6w.html And SHINee's Excuse Me Missru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jSORaqTQykk.html. Taemin is only in two groups SHINee and Super M. He was also in Younique Unit but the group doesn't exist anymore. And the military time Taemin is currently serving is 1 year and a half. Most kpop idols serve when there 28 so BTS still has time.

SHINee aren't just reinventing themselves because they have been in the industry for so long -- the group was created to be an experimental group from day one. With this comeback, SHINee are just doing what we have all come to expect from them -- showing us something that has never been seen or heard before and starting a new trend. Nothing you hear from them will ever be like anything you have ever seen or heard before. They raise the bar even higher with every comeback. And that's what makes them SHINee. :D With every new song release, SHINee are expected to come out with a style and sound that is brand new, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. And "Don't Call Me" is a perfect example of that. What you just experienced is exactly what makes SHINee legends. And this is the reason why they are so highly respected, and why almost everyone in the industry who came after them cites them as one of their biggest influences and one of the reasons why they wanted to become a singer and dancer, etc. SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee where designed to be SM's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. And it is said that within 3 months of SHINee releasing their new song and choreography, you will see that same sound and style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow from both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suit. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. You just discovered why SHINee still hold one of the top spots after more than 13 years in the industry. If you are impressed now, just wait until you go through their entire discography of songs and MVs. So far, they have 13 full-length albums (7 Korean albums and 6 Japanese albums), several repackaged albums, a multitude of mini albums, numerous OSTS, they each have solo songs and albums and there are hundreds of live performances that will absolutely leave you speechless with their talent. And it only gets more and more impressive as you follow them through their career. They have accomplished a lot in the past 13+ years and they are one of the groups that made Kpop what it is today. However, if you want to see where SHINee truly shines, you have to see their live performances. SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and yet they are younger than most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than many members of groups who came after them, such as EXO and BTS, etc. which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans. When SHINee debuted in 2008, Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14, so now they are all in their late 20s and early 30s. (Onew just turned 31 in December.) SHINee are some of the most well respected artists in the industry. Most fans (SHINee World or Shawol for short) will tell you we know who is speaking or singing within 1 second even with our eyes closed, with them standing in a crowd of screaming fans. Each of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop". SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live for more than 3 hours non-stop in concert and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography the whole time.They are truly impressive. They can dance full out for 3 hours straight, while singing live at the same time, and still maintain stable vocals the whole time. They never sound out of tune or out of breath even to the very end. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach.

SHINee were on hiatus for the past 3 years because Onew, Key and Minho enlisted in the military in 2018 to serve their mandatory 18 months as part of their duties as a South Korean citizen. Onew was discharged in July, Key was discharged in October and Minho was discharged in November. (A group hardly ever will all enlist at the same time, because someone needs to represent the group while the others are away.) This Don't Call Me album was released in February -- they produced there 7th full length Korean album in less than 3 months -- including learning multiple choreographies and preparing for their concert, etc. and they have been going nonstop ever since. Taemin is the last member to do his military service, because he is 2 to 4 years younger then the rest of the SHINee members, so he was still young enough that he chose to wait to enlist. This gave Taemin time to focus on his solo activities -- including debuting as a member of Kpop's very first supergroup SuperM, which included promotional tours all over the world, as well as concert tours, all while also having multiple solo comebacks and concerts, etc. -- and it allowed him to be the representative for SHINee in order to keep the group in the public eye. However, now that the other members have been discharged, it is now Taemin's turn -- he enlisted May 31 -- to serve his 18 months. Taemin is 27 years old, and he is now the same age that Key and Minho were when they enlisted. Plus, the other members encouraged him to do it and get it out of the way, and it's also pretty good timing because he has just finished a very successful solo run and he is coming off an epic SHINee promotional tour, so he is well set to take a break. All able-bodied native Korean males must serve 18 months in the military or conscripted public service before the age of, I think, 30. (They used to be required to serve a full 2 years before the age of 32, but a few years ago the South Korean government reduced the service time and age limit.) It's just a requirement as a Korean citizen. This is how they insure that they always have a fresh and ready group of soldiers. Technically, the Korean War is still going on, it has never actually ended. So although they currently have a truce with North Korea, South Korea needs to always be on alert and ready just in case North Korea decides to attack. So Korea's military is always active. All male Kpop stars who are native South Korean will take a hiatus at some point to serve their country, so we fans are left waiting for the members to return. And while in the military it is against the law for them to do anything except their military duties or whatever their public service job they are assigned to is. So Korean men are granted time off from their jobs or career to serve. Military service is actually looked at as a big honor, and although Idols are sad to have to leave fans and take a break from their careers, they embrace their service as a duty to their country and a right of passage. But most of the time entertainers are not just serving like a regular soldier, often they petition to be part of activities that keep them working in entertainment type jobs. For example, Onew spent his time serving on the military's promotional team performing in musical productions of plays based on a military themed story, alongside several other Kpop stars who were also serving at the same time. And Key auditioned to be a part of the military marching band/orchestra so he spent his time as a percussionist, vocalist and MC for public events or performing as part of the entertainment during military events. And Minho, who is known for being one of the top athletes served in an elite branch of the Marines where he became a decorated leader and one of the top members of his unit. However, we also were able to see Minho participate in military events and even soccer matches while in the military. So, even while they are away serving, if you search RU-vid, you can find fancam videos of most of them, where members of the public during special events have recorded the Idols as they are performing, etc. So we usually still get plenty of content from them, even when they are on hiatus. :D And because Taemin is one of the most high profile and popular celebrities in Korea, I am sure we will have tons of videos of him while in the military.

Onew is the oldest, that is one reason why he is the leader and why he was the first to enlist. Onew is 31 -- born in December 1989, Jonghyun was the second oldest born in April 1990, Key is 29 -- born in September 1991 (that is also why he enlisted before Minho), then Minho is 29 -- born in December 1991 and Taemin is 27/almost 28 -- born in July 1993. Onew is 2 to 4 years older than the other members.
